For me, when I complete a Goal a window pops up telling me I've completed the Goal and then gives me a very small pair of icons (FB and Twitter) on the right-hand side of that window. I can press the FB icon and that takes me out to FB with the option to post my achieved goal to FB. Once I post the accomplishment I'm returned to the DV accomplished goal screen where I can press OK and get another notification window that tells me the wizards have given me an additional gem for sharing my accomplishment.
Don't hit OK after you come back from the FB post. Hit the Twitter icon instead and it will open your browser and take you to twitter. After you post on twitter, then you have to hit the back button a few times to get back in the game.
Once you have hit both the FB and twitter icons, then hit ok. You should get the gem notfication twice and your gem count will be increased by two... or more if the accomplishment had gems associated with it, obviously.

What the hec!! My L20 Copper only gave me a silver for a Metal event in the colosseum!!! Looks like something has changed for worst
One possibility is that your park value has increased to the point where L20 dragons only give you an (for example) 80% chance of Gold in the Colosseum. I get the occasional silver (much to my frustration, and only when I'm actively leveling up too!) with L20 dragons.
Hopefully, you don't get a silver for another long while.

Thanks Smee and Bloodstone. I will look for that next time. Shows how observant I am....NOT. LOL! Maybe that's why I couldn't find all the eggs in the Easter Egg Hunt contest.

I just summoned my sixth island and it has 7 giant trees and one of those extra large rocks... oh my it will be a while before I can clear this. Hmmm... I see rocks and trees in this decorating scene lol...
Happy Hatching to you ! I'm a Facebook user on an android....
Strange, I never seem to get a Silver, though all my Colosseum dragons are Lv 20. (Panlong, Paper, Current and Malachite)
In other news, have my first Meteor incubating, and my second on the way Still am waiting on the elusive display Diamond. Also, managed to sync up my Gemstone Island habitats, so they all produce Gems at the same time ;D

Every goal earns you 2 gems now, so long as you hit the Twitter and Facebook buttons.
And for the record, pressing the buttons seems to gets you the extra gems, even if the post doesn't go through for one reason or another.
You can get 2?? I didn't know that - I've already worked through about half or more of the goals as well.
Oh well. I don't really want the posts appearing on my facebook though anyway, but interesting that you say that it seems to fail after posting to twitter.
I might try posting to twitter, and then posting to facebook and see what happens. At the moment, I'm breeding Solstices for $$$ anyway, but I'll resume knocking off the goals in a week or so once I have enough Solstices.
Wish there was a way to get those extra Goals gems for those of us who have left FB and don't tweet. I understand the marketing angle all too well, but it still feels bad. As in, "Oh, you don't belong to the club? No gems for you."

You can That's what we have been talking about.
Click on tweet and it'll tell you you don't have a twitter account and to go to settings to create one.
Click on ok, it will redirect you there. Click the home button and exit out. Get back into dragonvale and voila, you have the gem
I haven't tried it on facebook yet as I have a facebook account and don't really want to spam it with dragonvale stuff. Everyone on there knows I play pretty much, but they don't need to know the extent of my addiction haha.

Well, I have both, but don't want to promote DV in either of my accounts - I don't like FB friends continually posting about this or that game achievement - I hide 'em if they do! and I don't want to do it to them either. But, the other day, someone said you can hit those tiny icons and not complete the posting action (hit Cancel in FB, for instance), and you'll still get the gem. So I tried it, and sure enough, I did! In FB at least, didn't try Twitter...

Yeah I feel exactly the same way! It gets annoying to hear about some random game all the time.
And I can't say I've ever once chosen to play a game because someone has posted about it on facebook. That said, it probably does work with younger kids.
Good to know it does work on facebook though as well. I'll try it tonight when my meteor hatches - get my gem through twitter first and then see if I can get my second through facebook.
I wish I had known you could get both from the start! Missed a few early on as well cos I didn't see where the share button was.
All in all, with the gems you get from actually breeding the dragons, plus the gems for sharing, the goals bring in over 100 gems if you breed them all.

Not bad at all!
I found DragonVale through a post on Fb. Thanks, it's been a long time since I've been called a younger kid.

I don't understand the reasoning behind the 'price' of dragons in the market. Some i get such as the Blizzard is 777 gems cause you have to get lucky, or the Century is 2,013 cause that's what year it is. But I don't get why some seemingly rarer ones like the Malachite are really cheap, 25 gems. Is there a rhyme or reason to their worth?

Generally, one opposite dragon is expensive while the other is cheap.

I believe epics and many limiteds are expensive due to their rarity, to encourage lots of panicked breeding and speeding up (celtic, anyone?). Opposites like the malachite are cheap to lure you into buying them instead of breeding them

Good news for those plagued by lots of Motley fails - they have left the market.
