This is THE ORIGINAL Dragonvale Rare Breeding Guide. Don't forget that this is where it all started! Don't be fooled by imitators!
This is a list of the best confirmed breeding pairs that work for each of the Rare/Limited/Opposite Dragons. It includes average fail times and other Rare/Limited Dragons or Dragons with long breed times that can result from those pairings.
Nothing you can do can improve your odds (save from using the EBI instead of the NBC). All you need to do is keep trying and it will happen eventually. GL (though, of course, luck has nothing to do with it ;-)

Originally I had a sequence of dragons that had the lowest number of dragons required, because of the amount of food required to feed a Dragon to Level 15. I am working on adjusting this now to be more about the amount of time required to breed the dragons, because 32 million coins earned a day is pretty easy to do so that 2 dragons can be leveled up to Level 15 as soon as they are born. My current numbers are:
400 elements in 138 dragons in 2235 hours or 93 days. 1.5 dragons per day. 24 million coins required per day to buy food to keep up to date with leveling up dragons as soon as they are born.
The above assumes you are breeding in just one cave for the required dragons, and using the other to breed Iron/Mag dragons for cash. If you find that you are earning a lot more than 24 million coins per day there are 3 ways you can speed up the Required Dragon breeding. 1. Use Gems to speed up breeding times. 2. Breed required dragons in both caves. 3. Replace a Panlong Dragon with a Mud and a Blazing. This will use up your coins/food quite quickly, because not only will you be feeding two dragons to Level 15 you will replace 36 hours of breeding time with 14 hours of breeding time.
Now this is just an arbitrary number because players generally have a number of dragons leveled up to 15. Adjustments need to be made to take into account the dragons you already have.
That was one of the hardest to get dragons for me to get... it took forever to get my first one and even longer to get my second one. I had given up on getting a second one while trying to get the LYD. I was using the Love/Cold combo and wouldn't you know it... I get a bluefire!! And I wasn't even trying! :0 Congrats to you!
Another tiny bit of strategy for newer players would be how you divide your Breeding Caves when single breeding + cash. If you are collecting pans for shrines it is always good to keep them in the regular breeding cave and the metal up on the EBI. That way if a new dragon comes along you can give it a try on the breeding island without cutting into your sometimes very long pan breeding.
Note this only matters if you are breeding in a single cave for shrines and the other cave for Mags/Irons.

Got my first dodo with earth Nd chrome, but the second is proving very difficult, any other combos?
Earth + any Air Hybrid should work. There's a list in the OP, but none should be any more likely than the other. I'd stick with Chrome for the DC myself.
Oh, and avoid Sonic and Panlong because of the chance of a Crystal.
Wow! 50 attempts is brutal. I've been having a miserable time with the Earth / Chrome pairing. I finally saw Poopy's post and tried Earth / Fog and got it.
How did you figure out we had a hidden dragon? Were you just experimenting to breed the Steel?

Read dragonvale wiki to get a look at what the Dodo looks like, and a lot are saying that reversing the order is giving them a better result. That is having earth last in the combo.
This is a really good thread. I'll keep checking back and hopefully will be able to contribute more to it.
For Dodo I also used Earth and Chrome. It took me about 14 tries and 152 gems to get my first one (used gems so I could screenshot images and set up the page). My second one I kept using the Earth and Chrome and got it in about 10 tries.
Hey 250 just thought I'd let you know I just got a 48 hr first try with blazing and moss I will keep you posted on what turns out to be I was trying a new combo for a dodo lol pretty bad choice I guess haha x vicky x

But happy to report that after 5 tries with Earth and Chrome in the EBI I got a DoDo!!!! Yay! ***throwing confetti in the air****
I tried 2 times with Earth and Fog and got fog both times. So went back since the fails are shorter breed times. Either 6 hours for mud....not real sure how got that one **scratching head** or 4 hours for Iron, which helps in getting me more dc for food right now!

Mud is one of the fails for Earth + Fog. Earth + Chrome will give you Iron or Chrome as fails.
