Yep, that is me! Very cold day. Was the first dry spell after heavy rains damaged this section of the road. That little mini-grader I'm dragging is what I want to replace.
Good thinking splitting the gifts between you. Wonder if hubby would go for that if I gave him half a tractor blade for Christmas?
Today, i received a picture from a painting. Sent by a far related cosin of mine. The painting is my great-great-great grand mother! A lovely young lady, here is the picture

Lovely looking lady. The frame is quite wonderful, too.
Viviane, that is a beautiful picture! What a treasure--to have a picture of such your 3xgreat grandmother. Do you see a resemblance to her in yourself or other relatives? I found a wedding photo of my grandmother & was shocked at the similarity to my niece!
Tommy, that really is good advice. Over the years, I've learned that practical gifts from my husband are because he is thinking of ways to make my life easier & he tries to be not quite so practical, so it kind of balances out. And I've learned that tools make his heart jump for joy!

So as you all know, my home key on my iPod touch has been broken. Screenshots=long gone. And its a life of misery.
While at the mall I took it to an Apple store, to see if they could clean it out. Apparently its not my fault that its broken, it has something to do with the device. The guy told us (there was two of us) that since it doesn't have a warranty (Apple Care, I think) the cheapest option is to replace it for $99. Then we left. My mother wants me to replace it for $99, since its the cheap way. I think that theres a way to fix it but it'll be real expensive.
On one hand, I am really attached to my iPod. I've had it for a year and got it for a special occasion (family stuff, kinda personal) and it's close to me. It's only 6GB, which frustrates me. And the AssistiveTouch gets annoying. To be honest, I really have a hard time using a home key. But this device is close to my heart; I couldn't trade it to those Apple people who'll probably trash it. Nuh-uh.
On the other hand is the side of a brand-new larger storage (32GB?) iPod. With a working home key. And those are the only good things about that. Storage has always been a problem, so this is a benefit. But this iPod would be odd to me. Foreign. It would remind me of giving this one up. It would take a lot of time and I would go through much pain, but I would learn to accept the new iPod.
The reason I'm telling you guys this is that I want you guys' opinion on this. No need for a poll, just a waste, but what do you guys think? Old device that you love, or New device that...humph.
Its a hard decision for me. You guys are awesome and I believe that you will help me like you help everyone else. Every two cents helps me, don't be afraid to put yours in. I don't bite!!

Buy a new one. Put it next to the old one. Put off the light Play romantic music Leave the room Results!
But, yes, I would get a new one if the loss of functionality was a bother. If not, then keep the current till it no longer will suffice.
I have an ipod that I mainly use for audio books and music. The limited storage is sch that I only keep what I currently want to listen to on it.

No way to judge your depth of emotional ties, so all we can really go by is your need for a new device. I'd go for the new one and not look back.
I had a husband like that, the home key didn t work anymore, i was quite attached to that person, but eventually I decided to go for a better subject, with a lot more skills, features and much better look, and of course, a fully functionnal home key. Have no clue what happened to the previous one, out of sight out of mind. Ps. Of course this is pure fiction ....

That is very, very special!! You are very lucky! My family was from an area devastated by numerous conflicts and they mainly were primary producers (fishing, baking etc.) so there is no way that there would have been such a beautiful painting made of any of my ancestors which would have probably cost quite a lot of money. What an amazing piece of your past you have!!!!

Lol! POTM! I had a husband like that too but haven't replaced it yet - am totally enjoying my own space at the moment!!
Thanks Glenys, but actually I just have a photo of that painting, it is the property of another descendant of that young lady. And in fact, that whole family lived in the northern part of Germany, near the Baltic See, thus, this painting has probably survived many difficult times. That young girl was born in 1825 and died 1908. I wish we could travel in the past and meet all those who came before us and whom we owe our existence.

Have you investigated your family tree? At the level of the lady you posted you would be visiting with 32 of your direct ancestors. I do wish we could spend time with them to hear their personal stories. I believe we will one day. Wish I had been interested in family history while our direct ancestors were still alive. So many questions.
I have a question/recommendation for you tech savvy folks (looking at you Poppy). Is there a way or chance we could make a chatroom app for free flowing/instant communication. I imagine it would work something like Facebook Messenger. It'd be cool to be able to communicate with the good members of the forum in real time. Just a thought. What do y'all think?

There are many free java apps for that sort of thing.
