I really like the screen name Maidy (Maid4Life). Reminds me of when I was dating my wife, an authentic Southern Califonia hot babe. She had a part-time job working in the Drapery Department at Sears. When I would call, I would always play it straight and ask for the Drapery Department, knowing that the operator would ask, "Custom or Ready-Mades?". To which I always took great pleasure in replying, "Oh, Ready Maids!".
The operator probably thought that it was pretty odd for a young surfer dude to be so excited about curtains.

My two " adopted" daughters came to live with us when they were each 16. Their original home is in a part of the former Soviet Union. To paraphrase the Bible, " Greater love hath no parent, than to send their child 13,000 miles away to give them a chance at a better life." They have taught me what it means to sacrifice yourself for your child's future & happiness. I don't know that I could have done the same. It's hard enough that most of my children are married & live a few hrs away. Thank goodness we still have one in town!

LOL Poppy! Thank you! I came up with the screen name as a result of being a Stay-at-home Mom until the kids went to school full-time. I would joke with hubby that the maid quit. He would tell me I was the maid and I couldn't quit. I had the job for life. Good thing I love that man. LOL! ;D

I am listenning to "the sound of silence", voluptuous.
I have a grandson who talks non-stop, literally is talking from the minute he wakes up at 6:30 am til he finally falls asleep 8-9 pm. Which is really ironic because he has Childhood Apraxia of Speech and could only say "yeah" until he was almost 3 yrs old & was diagnosed & began intensive speech therapy. When he (& we) learned sign language, it really was as if the floodgates opened & haven't closed since. When we are tempted to ask him to please be quiet for a minute, we remember how we prayed to be able to hear him speak any thing at all. We do take him frequently so his mom gets a break from the non stop chatter! Lol!
Aww! That's a wonderful story! My youngest is my chatty one. Sometimes I tell her my ears really need a break. LOL! But I also know that in a few short years she'll be on her own and I'll miss her chatty self.

Yes, that time comes all too quickly. Although, hopefully, she'll still want to call & just talk.
Thanks so much for so many telling a bit more of their stories. I enjoy getting to know you all a bit more personally.
Poppy it is so good to see you posting! Even if we get one here or there...you have known me long enough to know how much I worry if I don't hear from you.
Your welcome Tony and thanks for posting as well! I have been getting worried not seeing you or Jack much anymore.
Here is the progress so far on our Christmas decorations. These were taken at dusk last night. We are slowly but surely getting there. What takes the most time is securing everything, running power to each piece and setting what needs to be set for the animation aspect of it all. I am truly so exhausted right now and hoping it will be worth it in the end. I keep asking myself though "what were we thinking?!" As you can see my lovely little grandaughter...she actually kept moving everytime I would move the ipad to take a different angle/are picture and saying "cheese" lmao!!! What a diva she is! I'm going to attempt it again tonight to see if I can get video of her doing it. This was the first time I think I was trying to keep her out of the pics but it didn't do me any good! lol
Shellee, considering the amount of stuff you have for Xmas decoration and also for Halloween, i wonder if you live in the garage as you need the whole house as storage place for all these deco !
What a cute little girl. Your yard looks enormous. I love the lights we decorated our boat several years for a lighted boat parade. What a blast that was. We would start the parade in the deep water Chanel and go to downtown Stockton to do the turn around. It was great to see all the kids of the bank waving to us. I'll have do find a picture to post. We won best decorated overall one yearn

Loved seeing the pics! That kind of decorating is so beyond my single strand of lights on the eves, lol! Looks great and your gd is adorable. Looking forward to more pics and vid.

Gt, wow! Where do store all that stuff?? Beautiful decorations. I've always wanted to ask, is your electric bill just enormous when you run all those lights? Your granddaughter is a real cutie!! Quite the ham! LOL!
Where is our Eternity? How was the camping trip? Did you make s'mores?

She is going to school in Kansas I am in AZ. She is good about calling.....I am always so busy that her being gone is one less thing to do. I think she is missing me worse...I know that I am not as dumb now as I was before she left. . I think the separation is healthy in the long run.
Ok so that is far but not too far. Right..I get that. It was the same with us until we pretty much retired. Even with the kids though we are getting bored so we are thinking of work again. LOL I hear ya! Kids will be kids... and it is great that she is missing you that much! They learn to appreciate things a bit when it is not right there at their beck and call 24/7
It's a 15 hr drive. An 8 hour flight...no non-stops to Garden City. So I might as well be on the other side of the world in her mind...since She has been home on break we have made some of her favorite foods. The best part it she complains about every little change that has happened in town since she left....Her idea is that it should remain frozen in time...
Jeannette I think you might be right on a record of birthdays! Thanks so much! Yes. Her friend was actually over visiting my neighbor so she decided to bring her over. It was nice because most of the neighborhood are little boys so she is still a bit shy with us since we only see her maybe 4-6 times a year. No. It isn't on a parade of homes. I don't think it would be a good idea because we get so many as it is. Our mega tree which doesn't have the star on top yet is about 17-18 feet high. Back through where all the big stuff is in our "park area" there is a main major street so many people see it from there. Those that don't see it have seen it on facebook from others that posted it etc. lol Also other ways is our 4th of July fireworks show that we do sometimes..anyone that knows about that comes to see if we are doing anything for Christmas so word gets around.
LOL @ Viv!!! No but we have a shop outside with a shed behind it and a daughters garage etc. haha
I know Glenys and thanks. I'm still wondering what I was thinking. lol I feel like right now that I won't feel like putting up the tree inside. haha
Thanks Saffy and Deb! I would love to see pics of your boat in the lighted parade!
Thanks Shirley and Maidy! I posted up about where we store it all. No! lol The power bill only goes up I think about 20-30 for the month....if even that. It is almost all LED so it doesn't use much power.

Wow. That is a bit farther than I realized. LOL that is too funny! You don't really realize the extent of things changing until you leave and then come back.

I second the request for the lighted boat pics & fireworks pics. The only thing prettier than Christmas lights ( or fireworks) is Christmas lights (or fireworks) over water IMHO.
I really prefer the look of old-fashioned incandescent lights, but the only way my husband will put up all the lights I like is if they are LED. The colors have improved over the last few years so it's a good compromise & the lower power bills are definitely welcome! Some of the people in town who live on over the top decorated streets say normal life becomes almost non-existent during the holidays because of all the traffic, so it's understandable why you wouldn't want to experience that, GT!

I prefer them too. Actually I love the warm white but I had that for quite a few years so I had to compromise with hubby for more color. lol I really like the power bill now and not blowing breakers anymore. Yep..and that is what it gets down here on our street which really irritates me. We do it more for the grandkids and neighborhood kids. Don't get me wrong as I love to share with as many as possible but it gets to be a nuisance after awhile and then there are always those that end up ruining it for everyone else. Crossing my fingers this year will be a bit more quiet and tame but we will see.

We are in the process of gradually changing over to the LED lights, they just don't glow the same way the old ones do. Still use the C-9's on the house. I remember when we were kids how people would go around stealing the bulbs as high as they could reach and finding lots of broken glass on the streets. That was a sad time. Yep, there are always those who don't care how much their fun costs others. Here's hoping you get well-behaved lookers this year.
