Ok, to everyone saying they are underwhelmed or not super impressed by these mythical dragons, I hear you. It's not a drastic change. But let's take a step back here. Both Gaia and Kairos generate a power every four days. These two have theirs daily. We are getting treats for free if we roll a low number, and save treats/gems to level a dragon up one if we get a high number. That's still something to appreciate. And they look amazing, a great take on the classic DnD myths. If you could choose any power for a mythical dragon to have, what would it be? I saw guaranteed twin power, and love that idea of course. Any other suggestions?
I've been up and down all day on this new change, I do love the look of the new dragons, and am looking forward to getting them in my park.
>Both Gaia and Kairos generate a power every four days. These two have theirs daily.
Yeah, but Gaia and Kairos' power *works* every 4 days, and to be honest, I often let Gaia sit there for days, while she's ready and able to be used. These dragons might have a power that fires every day, that is IF you can get to the park every day at the same time, otherwise it will slip a bit each day, and you might get 6 days out of 7.
But if you want to level up a level 19 dragon, it will take an average of 20 times of using their power to get the result you want. I'll have fed the dragon to level 20 before then. And in that time, you might have collected 250,000 treats, not enough to get a dragon from level 15 to level 16.
I appreciate we have something new and cool looking, but my honest reaction to the new abilities is... meh.
(And I'm disappointed that I feel that way, both in myself and BFS)
Abilities I'd *like* to see:
Guaranteed Twin on the next breed in coop. Ability to convert a dragon to a twin. Ability to gift a dragon to a friend.

Ideas
1. Guarantee next dragon bred is a twin. 2. Gift a dragon to a friend. 3. Ability to allow the om of noms food. I.e. Fiery figs to be grown for 5 min. 4. Give the ability for next dragon bred to be totally unlocked with no limited time dragon limitations (all brb possibilities) 5. Change one pedestal to the twin version. 6. Change one dragon to twin version 7. Give 1000 Roses/iceberries/fireflies/eggs/stardust that don't count toward the limit

To cancel out a breeding every few days To minus 1-3 dragon possibilities out of the breeding chances depending on number of possibilities every few days To instantly finish a breeding every few days
My take on BFS's thought process while planning the release of these two mythic dragons: Bahamut and Tiamat are apparently dragons from Dungeons & Dragons, a tabletop role-playing game, so BFS probably wanted to incorporate the 20-sided die into gameplay. But something that's as chancy as rolling a die should definitely be more often than once every 4 days, which is how the current legendaries work, so BFS went with once every 24 hours instead.
Where I think they might have gone wrong is that they placed that die rolling game and its frequency into the fragment-collecting process too. With Gaia and Kairos, there's at least the feeling that we have more opportunities to collect fragments within 24 hours. We're not guaranteed fragments, but we can at least try for them in the Dragon Track and in quests in both the Nursery and Kairos's Perch. A good counterpoint to this is that both Kairos and Gaia required 30 fragments each to complete, while Bahamut and Tiamat only require 10 fragments each.
I don't think I'll know how I feel about their function until I get them, but for now I'm enjoying them as new dragons. It was definitely pretty cool to see their new habitats in BFS's video, and I'm already wondering where I should place them when I get them. On the island where I place my other Spooky habitats, or try to get all the legendaries and mythics near one another? Also, we can possibly say that the mythics are our first 5-element dragons!
Just an aside but the red blue green white and black heads are the five colors of "Magic: The Gathering", the first collectible trading card game

In case anyone was wondering, the 24 reset timer for rolling the dice in the Mythic Hall of Mysteries is not affected by Kairos. So you can't even reduce the time by 6 hours every 4 days.
Anyway, I tend to look at this similar to how I view the two legendary dragons, Kairos and Gaia. The utility of each of them is nice, but for me, the main reason I like them, and the main reason I'd like to get these new dragons, is simply the coolness factor. I haven't seen a pic of either of these in someone's park yet, but I hope they are bigger and/or look more special than your average limited or epic dragon.
I will never understand the fascination some people have with twins. There is nothing really special about them. They look the exact same as a non-twin. Is it just the fact that it's a twin??? I especially don't care for the look of the twin eggs. The blue hue just mutes the color, and I just don't care for it. Just my opinion.
Could it be that you actually have to roll a number depending on the dragon's level? I watched the introduction video, and they said that to raise a dragon to level 13, you have to roll 13 or higher.
That sounds to me like you could raise a level 1 dragon by rolling at least 2. And a level 19 dragon by rolling at least... 20. Which means we're back to 5%.
And the only way to raise a L20 primary dragon to Elder, is to pay the 5 gems and roll a 21....
Yeah, that makes sense, so I'm back to completely unimpressed. This is an boon for low-mid level players.
Edit: My, this has been a rollercoaster of emotions today.

Magic and DnD are actually owned by the same company, Wizards of the Coast; The places that represent each color in Magic (Black=swamps, White=plains, Red=mountains, Blue=islands, and Green=forests) are actually where the respective dragon lives, with the exception of the White dragon, who lives in frozen areas if I remember right.
Though, their shared colors are still coincidence - the two games have very different creators (Gary Gygax and Richard Garfield) and these things were decided on without knowing about the other, from what I recall.
(alright, but I'll let my nerd side stop derailing this post, but this bit about the colors is pretty cool, as someone who plays both games)

Yeah, and there's not even a Nobel Prize involved!
I am looking at this as I get two new dragons eventually and during and after I receive them the roll of the dice is like having a tempermental magical greenhouse. I really don't expect to get the high roll very often and I am not willing to use the 5 gems per day. If I get to level up dragons great, but I am going in not expecting that very often. I also don't compare these to Legendary dragons as they are a type of Mythic. I do expect a lot more if/when they release another Legendary. I am not totally wowed by the Mythics, but I am not disappointed either.

I just want to clarify that I'm not disappointed in any way by the new update... I love having new dragons, these give us a new challenge to try for, and since there's a high probability we'll get an Easter egg hunt event again anyway, it's a good downtime challenge while waiting for the next event. I think it's more that I'm a little confused by the hints that SBF was giving us that seemed (to me at least) to be a much bigger update, and working up my expectations in that respect. (And SBF, I'm totally not ragging on you at all, so I hope you don't take offense! I was looking forward to your Potent-esque Hint Countdown!)
Buuuuuut if BFS wanted to make another Legendary dragon that had Twin Power, I wouldn't be unhappy about it *hint* *hint*

well there's a backstory to that of course. I didn't know when we would be getting these until, like everyone else, I saw the trailer. So unfortunately one day isn't enough to do a good teaser countdown. I knew something was up when they released Portent and Omen at the same time, but if I started my countdown and they instead did a St. Patrick's day event I would feel pretty foolish. While I know about things that may be introduced, I don't know the when so that makes it difficult to plan. I know I talked it up, and these dragons do change things, but my hint was trying to play off the catchphrase "it's gonna be legen-, wait for it, -dary!" to hint at a new, non hybrid or epic class of dragons. Also, their powers were not fully finalized when we had discussed them at the Faire, so one would assume that mythical dragons would have powers akin to legendaries. They were also talked about during the same time as a different potential new feature/addition so I might have just thought those two were together when they aren't. Sorry if that is not as clear as I would like but it's tough knowing some insider info but not the whole picture. And sometimes even the creators of something change their minds or modify little parts after more consideration.

I have to say I am actually pretty happy with the new Mythic Dragons. I love the designs of both and I think their powers while random can always be a nice reward. I am not what one would call a high roller so I expect it will take a while to get the pieces but at least I know in time I can get the dragons so on that I don't feel stressed or pressured for it to happen. When I don't get a piece at least I get treats and I for one am very happy about that.
So Kudos to BFS for this nice roll out and from what I can see they will roll out more mythics in the future.
If you could choose any power for a mythical dragon to have, what would it be? I saw guaranteed twin power, and love that idea of course. Any other suggestions?
I would like a power to make all gem/crystal/limited hybrid dragons available for breeding when the effect is on. I have finished all my collections (aside from these 2 new dragons, of course), except one crystal egg, so I have to wait till summer :/ To make the ability less overpowering, it can be set to only activate once a week, and last only 24 hours.

I like the ability to get twins from the coop cave, but I do not like the look of the egg either. I only keep it if I don't have the egg yet and replace it as soon as I get a non twin egg. I sometimes feel guilty when I sell a rare twin thinking that somewhere out there someone would love to have it, but collecting and keeping up with one set of dragons and pedestals is enough for me.
Same question. I'm confused about the ability of these new dragons:
Allows you the chance to increase the level of X dragon once per day.
What if we already have the primary dragon max out? Will we get additional beyond current max? If the level cap remains, then there is really no benefit for us high level players.
PS: I am slightly disappointed about the way to obtain these 2 new dragons. I was expecting something like how we unlocked Light/Dark dragon. That was a fun and unique event
Just out of interest, how did getting the Light and Dark dragons work?
It happened a few years ago so my memory may not be 100% accurate. This is what I remember:
During the event there is a special object that looks like a big ring. It has meters on each half, representing light and dark, and multiple tiers on each meter. Players get "energy" when they do their regular activity, just like how you collect roses/iceberries/etc. in current events. I don't think there is a daily limit though. We can pour the energy in one side of the meter. Of course you can either focus on one side, or do light today and dark tomorrow.
Eventually, one of the meter fills up first, base on all the energy collected from all DV players. and The dragon of that side got released first (I think we finished light first). You are then given rewards based on which tier you filled up at the time of release. I think the highest reward is a special giant light habitat. Then we all work toward finishing the other half of the meter and dark dragon comes to life! That's when the event ends. Again, you are rewarded based on the dark tier you reached at that time.
I quite like the event, because there are some strategies involved. If you want the highest tier reward, you better focus on one side. But then you have to guess which side will "win", or else you might end up getting nothing from the winning side. You can see the meter grow from all players donation, so you can "switch side" if you feel like your side is losing Of course it's also serve as a "poll" on what all DV players prefer. Obviously more players chose to stand on the light side
Then you will be going through some crazy grinding if you want the giant dark habitat, because by the time light is done, dark is also close to finish. So if you haven't contribute anything for dark side, you only have very short time to beat the meter (considering everyone is doing the same, it's even more challenging, like a race). It was not easy so I don't know how many players can reach that.
I was a fairly new player, so I didn't get highest reward on either side. But it was my favorite event. It's the only true "global" event where all players work toward one goal, and it's exciting to see the meter growing every day. But the grinding was really painful.

It is a fantastic boon to low-mid level players. I probably won't use the dragons much after I acquire them. I seem to always have plenty of food to raise up new dragons. Maybe I'll try to raise level 15 dragons that I don't particularly care if I level them or not. But they are fun games to play to acquire. And it can be very hard to be "behind the 8 ball" on this game. I'm glad that they will help lower level characters catch up.

Abilities I'd *like* to see:

I think It'd even be neat to just roll a 10-sided die and then add the roll to 10. So any dragon level 10 and below is automatically raised a level and it increases your chance of being able to increase the level of a higher level dragon such that it happens more frequently. Its still not a high powered tool because food is not really that rare or hard to get once you have a high level park.

They were not owned by the same company when Magic was created. However, Dungeons and Dragons had been out a while at that point. I don't know when the colors were added to the game because I didn't play roleplaying games at that point. Wizards of the Coast purchased DnD's company later (and then was later purchased by Hasbro)
My best friend (Bethmo, one of the early rules lawyers) went to the original Dragonsfire (?) convention where they handed out Alpha cards. She was in WA and I was in TX at the time. She came online and told me about this GREAT new game she'd learned at the convention. She'd traded other participants for their unwanted convention packet cards and typed out the rules on the cards and we both played off of her deck.
