I just came across this thread and all I can really say is wow. The fact that this exist in an online community in todays environment of looking out for number 1 is very inspiring. I was cutting my grass a few weeks ago and my blades stopped cutting. Not knowing what was wrong I took it to Ace which is owned by a guy I went to HS with. He knew about my injuries in Afghanistan and that I'm out if work still waiting on my disability to start coming in from my family I guess. Anyhow, I kept calling to figure out how much it was going to be to fix it so I could figure out what I needed to sell to cover it and he just kept saying he didn't know. Well when I got the call that it was ready, I went up there and Mike wasn't in. The employee told me there was no charge and loaded the mower up. I was taken back. Ill admit that it brought tears to this Marine's eyes. It's the first time that anyone had done something to help me since I've been home. While I was deployed, someone even went under my house and stole my electrical wire. The instance company only paid out $600. A friend a friend recommended a guy who wouldn't rip me off. Well after forking out $1800 that I didn't have, the guy disappeared without ever putting in the new box. I naturally take a person for their word and thought he was a good guy. I know now to never pay before the work is done. I've bad people come estimate and they've all said around $3k which I don't have so I just deal with it. That's what I've come to expect - I guess the experience just jaded me. So to have a guy do this was shocking to me. I've always tried to help people. On several occasion, I've had folks in town come up and ask me for money to get food for their family. Not having an income right myself, I still would go to Little Ceasars and get them a hot an ready pizza. I'm used to being the one to help - never the other way
So back to the forum, really awesome guys. Definitely count me in to gem bomb or anything I can do
This is what this forum is built on. We look out for everyone. Your story really is amazing! I really hope you have many more experiences like your friend from Ace. Hoping we start a trend here and you get to experience the other end of receiving for once. Friend request sent. Welcome to the DV family Cobus! This time you can sit back and enjoy!
We are acutely aware of time with the rapid degenerative nature of this disease & now are barreling forward to our next never-perceived notion of qualifying for a Service Dog for him, keeping him as mobile and independent as possible before the inevitable wheelchair rolls into our lives. The irony of Kairos, right?...and the three of us haven't had much luck completing that neat speed-up feature, even with added Quest option. Since the update we've all had great chunks of our friend list fall off, but have noticed some of your gems, as well as other recognizable Forum members. It's weird, we can't reciprocate to those we should and I know many of you aren't expecting gems in return. Leon could benefit from upgraded breeding, which I believe is 175 gems, to answer your question. Probably the best idea for Luke, the five year old, too. Not always the most patient age bracket lol:) Wow. I hadn't checked in lately and, maybe you'll think it funny that both boys had a punishment involving no electronics so DV being off limits was part of that. I did post my "okay" in the wrong thread, sorry:) We are all so grateful & enjoying the spirit in energy from all of you. It feels like the magic in the air surrounding the holidays, but earlier & with a sense of understanding that the boys seem to be gleaning from this experience that I can't quite describe other than to say it does take a village but, that strong community of a village found here can change how 2 little boys perceive the world & I know in turn, they'll remember this and act accordingly, paying it forward with gusto! Thank you all!

Quite a couple novels there, Stefie. Sounds like NH is treating you about the way it's treating me. I have a lot of similarities to your story, though I guess mine would rate lower on the tragic scale. It does however include losing my home, having a horrible time finding work, having all my bills several months behind, an incurable degenerative autoimmune disease, and much else. I'm inspired by your attitude, or at least your actions (because even when my attitude stinks I still do the right thing, even if I don't feel like it, you know?). Keep at it. I know this is the wrong thread for this kind of conversation, but I did want to encourage you and let you know you're not alone. Do what you can, enjoy your kids (my boy is just over four months and he's precious). I'm grateful for your service there at Pease.
Turns out not all of Stefie's postings were meant for this thread but for PMs. Sorry to have accidentally eavesdropped! And I'm sure no thread hijacking was intended. Still, nice to get to know fellow community members!
