Okay. Thank you. You can not substitute Ash for other dragons with same element? Same for Frost Fire?
I am not grasping the concept. I know sometimes you can sub. and other time you cannt, is there a rule of thumb?

Rule of thumb:
- you can never sub for gemstone dragons
- some epics have a specific combination for which you cannot sub

That's about it.

Usually, when a member of the forum says "the combo is Dragon_Name + Dragon_Name," we're dealing with a specific combo.

If a member of the forum says "the combo is Element_Type + Element_Type", then you can mix and match the dragons to get the elements you need.

So, for Jet, the specific combo is Ash + FrostFire.

I ponied up the 150 gems for Jet because I tried forever to get Amber but had all fails so since I missed out on the Amber 90% off sale wasn't taking any chances with Jet. Solid black and Very cute but not sure what element is called "Jet"?!

Had to look it up on wikipedia. I thought it was a joke at first when my wife told me it was a "deal" available in the market.

The wiki article is an interesting read. Jet was considered magical according to the ancient Romans.

Thanks to those who mentioned the egg pedestal was so cheap! Couldn't afford to buy the dragon with gems, but getting the egg out of the way is a big plus.

Unless that member of the forum is BS, in which case the specific combo is ASH + FROSTFIRE

That's why I like to write locked combos in ALL CAPS in an effort to avoid confusion.

Of course, if you don't know that's the reason I do that then it probably just seems like I'm VERY EXCITED ABOUT NEW DRAGONS

Question about something I see in the "last call" thread. When someone puts "X+X" (or maybe X+Y) what do the numbers mean? Read the OP in the thread and couldn't figure it out. Thanks for answering my nosiness.

Here's an explaination from the Living Lexicon, which is the daringly developed dictionary of DragonVale defitions:

3+2+1: A pledge of gems for a competition, meaning three gems to the winner, two to the runner up, and one for the participant after the runner up.

That's their offer. For example 2 + 1 means, 2 gems to the winner, 1 gem to the runner up. If there is no number then it just means 1 gem to the winner.

30 for the egg pedestal
Last time the special deal only lasted for some days, after that it will cost a lot more
But you have 3 months to breed it
