I agree with Uli. I love the upgraded breeding cave/island. I wish the hatchery was a time saver too but I do speculate it will be a upgrade sooner or later. Wishful thinking anyways.
Thanks guys I've upgraded my island - so much prettier & only a 9 1/2 hour fail this time - still frustrating, but 20% less so!!
Oh the sheer joy of 'only' 19 hours before ANOTHER unwanted crystal with my new upgraded EBI.... Is this gem dragon being particularly elusive for people? I got loads of rubies but this little darling seems to want to be an only child with a huge brood of crystal siblings.......
It's just marvelous, dear! Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
BTW, my wife was so happy last night to get her Peridot - at very last and having been bored with the 24-hours long nightmares!
I am still hunting for my only missing regular dragon, the Seasonal. Tried for over 50 times with Firework/Plant and Blazing/Cactus but still waiting for luck to come!
Thanks for that dortif!! And tell ur wife congrats!! Ive got my aduly and an egg. Just waiting for my 3rd to hatch i am still missing a silver olympus and a seasonal myself. Fingers crossed!!

I'm having the same problem too with Peridot. I got quite a few Rubies as well but if I remember right I think I started getting Ruby after one of the othe dragons was released. Maybe it was Treasure? I can't remember now. So far out of 43 tries I have had 7 Crystal fails it looks like. koala and hope we both get that 2nd child.
Congrats on the 3rd Peridot! Still working on my 2nd, also for the egg display.
We have seen where people (Poppy, I believe) have done exactly what you suggested, bred one then rebred the same pair and got another. Ergo, bite me!
Lol, sorry - just got home from the dentist - crown prep - may be just a wee bit cranky.
I know I have posted this before, but here is my theory again, just for you! You either missed it the first time or chose to ignore it, which is just so terribly rude.
I played a Facebook game with 2 other ladies every Sunday night for 3+ years, one in Great Britain, one in Canada and me on the west coast of the US. Obviously all different time zones. We would be chatting together in one open window and hunting in another.
Each Sunday at a specified time an item would be released for hunting, some times multiple items. We would hunt together until all of us had the new item(s), or until the lady in GB couldn't hold her eyes (lamps, as she called them) open any longer.
We were told the results of hunting were "random", that any hit could result in any of dozens of items, but always had a chance for the exciting new item.
Sometimes we would hunt for hours with no luck, and at the same moment we would all 3 hit the new item. If it were multiple new items released, we would all get the same new item at the same time. Not just once, but week after week. The sweet spot would only be a moment, so it wasn't like we could take advantage of the sweet spot.
We know that BFS can manipulate time as evidenced by the sun/moon timing. Why is it inconceivable that there might be a timing element involved with limited/rare dragons? It might be 5 minutes once per hour; or 1 minute once per hour; or 30 seconds once every 6 hours; or 5 minutes every 31 hours, which could account for the people who take a limited out, rebreed and get another right away. Have no idea what the sweet spot might be. Wouldn't it be fun to find out?
Ok, awaiting your response even though I know it will be way over my head.
Go ahead Jack and myke - post your funny pics - mock me. Release the sighing! lol
Dentists. Fun.
Of course it's going to happen some of the time. If you instantly cleared a cave and reset it with the same dragons and NEVER got a repeat dragon there would be something screwy going on.
I do recall your story, and I have no idea how Facebook games work, but it's certainly possible their limited programming could have the affect you experienced.
Whilst DragonVale could have the same sort of sweet spot, there is no earthly reason I can think of that they would do it. They no doubt have access to a sophisticated Random Number Generator to calculate their breeding success rates, and to add some kind of external influence on Rare Breeding would be an enormous amount of work for zero gain. It makes no business sense to spend money on something that has no benefit to the company/players.
I don't actually know why the Facebook dev programmed his game that way. Our speculation was that by limiting the number of new items to such a small window, he kept his members hunting longer hours, and for multiple days. Advertisers were interested in numbers of hits on games so it benefited him greatly to keep us clicking along.
Just for fun I have put together a simple online spreadsheet to track breeding times. PM me if anyone is interested in adding their breeding times. Who knows, maybe we'll discover something unknown!
Something I find interesting: 12 hrs ago put Sonic & Sakura in cave for (hopefully) Seasonal, immediately put Cactus & Crystal in other for (hopefully) another Peridot. Results in both--12 hrs= Moss Just now put Sonic + Sakura back in one, Cactus + Crystal in other, results in BOTH caves 24 hrs. Maybe results really are function of time??
An update (addition to this):
My daughter & I got together & tried a tiny experiment. We cleared all our caves ( cost me a lot of gems bc I had a full nursery & 2 crystals in the caves )
We both loaded our caves with same combos, then clicked "breed" at the same time, immediately repeated with the other caves. Results: we each got different breed times. So it appears my previous experience may have just been "luck". I still am interested in continuing this, so will send Pixie a PM for spreadsheet.

This is exactly what my daughter ( who is much more savvy in this area than I ever thought of being) said, before going along with my "tiny experiment." you two may be right.
Did you know we have 3 polls going this week? No? Well, we do! We are looking for your opinions about which suggestions made by our members should be implemented in our beloved game by BFS. Be sure to read the first post for instructions. Vote! We value your opinion.
How often do you have to clear that to make that per hour?
When I see those little treasure chest thingys pop up, I tap them...and I tap them...and I tap them...
Just kidding. They will cap out within 45 minutes.
It may seem like it's a hectic schedule, but it really isn't much different than my other habitats. Just for the heck of it, I calculated my Water Habitat figures. It makes $882 DC per minute. So, with a cap of $30,000, it with be full in about 34 minutes.

**whiny voice** Reallly? That's just disappointing. **back to regular voice** Your experiment was probably more accurate than our spreadsheet, lol, darn!
Still going to add to the spreadsheet, just for fun. Maybe some "tendencies" will show itself.
For the record, if there was any correlation between time and dragon type, then breeding two dragons together, using gems to instantly put the egg in the hatchery and breeding the same two dragons together would always result in the second of the same type. We know that doesn't happen. Ergo, time doesn't matter.
Also, got my 3rd Peridot on the way for my Egg display.
Tut, tut Fletch. "Was" is the past tense of is. "Were" is condition contrary to fact. The use of "got" in the next paragraph is up for grabs. Are there any other grammar mavens in the house who would like to address it?
I can't help it. My mother taught English for 45 years.

Hmm, I was talking in the past tense because past experience was what I was referring to. I may have messed up the tense later in the sentence. And I can't find where "Were" should fit.
Starting the phrase with "Got" is just me being lazy.
