Many of us here started playing DV at its inception. At that time the game was very simple. Over time the complexity has increased geometrically with multiple expansions. It would be interesting to hear from some of our fellow community members who have started recently. What is the experience like to start now.
Does it seem impossible to build a complete park with the large number of elements and the continuous additions? Is it possible to still build a park without buying gems? Those who have been playing a long time talk casually about level 20 dragons - does that seem even possible in the early stages?
And there's another point of view that would be interesting. Have any veteran players started a new park recently? How is that experience? Does the DV mountain seem high when you're just starting the ascent?
Poppy good question. I was never tempted to start a second game but now, seeing every breeding converted into depressing stats percludes me even more to even think of a second park! Anyway, jumping on moving trains has never been easy, I prefer go on board before it starts to roll!
I'm newish right? I started playing the last two weeks of April. I got to about the level where you get the perch of Kairos objective before I found the wiki and this forum. For me the stats and percentages were comforting. I wasn't doing it wrong, I just had a low chance of getting it.
The sheer amount of dragons was overwhelming to be honest. I didn't fully grasp the concept that limited dragons have a year before they come around again, and so didn't even try for Bloom or Terradiem, and Century was in it's final days before I took a stab at it, and luckily nabbed one.
The whole idea that some of you had billions of dragoncash, and armies of level 20 dragons was just amazing. It still is, honestly. But at this point I've settled into a pace and adopted a dollop of patience. I'll get there eventually, there is no rush. I'm level 28, closing in on silvering my last shrine, and a cushion of 250 million dc.
A little bit ago I set up a second park, just to fool around with it. I spent $2 on gems to upgrade my hatchery, and that is all the money I plan to spend on that account. Saving for the EBI now, I'm at 90/125 gems. It is definitely doable. The one major change in play style I made was when I got lightning dragons, breeding cactus during the day for cash. 100k early in the game is a ton of dc. That got me my elemental boosts and my colleseum.
Is that a long enough essay?
Dragons to breed: Clover, Sakura, Diamond, Peridot, SOly, GOly, Bronze and Silver SnOlys, DR, Malachite, and four light and dark hybrids.
It's been almost a year since I started playing and I think if I was to start now I'd find it way too overwhelming. Sometimes when they release new ones and I am still trying for the older ones I feel that way anyway! I haven't really bothered with the Kairos, actually i don't think I have raced a dragon for months.
I've been playing a few months. Quickly got addicted, and play every day, now at Level 42. It felt like a race uphill to start with - so many dragons to get, never enough gems or cash or food! And yes I bought them a few times... But as you go up the levels they seem to come easier! I still have a few elusive dragons to get, and the level 20's to obtain, but much less frenetically than before. Still having fun!
Starting to play DV mid Feb this year, and I am addicted to the game since. My nieces and sister are veteran in playing DV and I have to admit it was discouraging at first to look at theirs park and mine. With their help, I knew about sandbox, the right dragons to use when racing...etc. As a newbie I had a head start. The game requires lots of patient but I am at level 45 and have built up a decent park. I think. I bought gems, guilty!!!! Just because I can't save gems quick enough for my 6 years old son who likes to, his words, "I am checking it...", "I am testing it..." I let him test, and check till his heart contents. I spent 25.00 or so to satisfy his curiosity. Now he is fully satisfy, I can save gems for things.
Don't think I will start a second park. The best defense is to remember to backup every night.
Hi Buffy. I love that you let your son check to his heart content. That's so cute. My grand kids have helped spend my gems a couple of times but now they aren't interested, so my parks are safe (I think). I started a second park during the middle of the bring em back. I play the second park differently. If I get the dragons yay for me but I don't stress if I don't. So far though I've gotten at least one of all the limiteds including DR. I've been trying for my gold oly and it has proved to be as elusive as it was in the primary park. I have big money earners so am well over a billion and I haven't fed my dragons as fast so don't have but a couple of silver shrines but have millions of treats so could start the shrine grind if I wanted to but it isn't as big of a priority as it was the first time.

I assume your sister and nieces are still playing? Nice support system you had behind you when you started. Love that you supplied gems to satisfy your son's curiosity.

I think I play a bit differently too. I mainly concentrate on epic dragons, and on those dragons that I like. For example, I have 9 rainbow, 3DR, 6 lunar eclipse(they remind me of Appa, flying bison), 4 Sakura (names:Fred, Wilma,Bamm Bamm, and Pebbles)....thought about having an island just for Sakura, but it is not feasible just yet, 3 sun, 3 moons etc., 2 seasonal (wanting 6)etc. However, I only have one of each hybrid dragons, and I dont have them all. I am not too keen about the Olympus. Although I have 3 bronze Oly, I don't plan to breed the silver, and gold Oly anytime soon.
My islands are not grand. They are simple and balanced. I think. On a couple of the islands, I have the flexibilities to move the habitats among the islands with ease, without disturbing other elements. I am working on a seasonal island...I am looking forward to that (short-term goal). I would like to keep a min of 100Mil, anything above that mark will be used to purchase food. I save a little more 20mil in food, which is nothing, really. I have no plan of crowning any dragons in the near future. When I do I will only choose one dragon for each island(long-term goal). My son has started racing in DV since the new update. He knows which dragons to use so I let him be. He has not played DV for some time. He listens well, soooo.....so far so good.
I mostly play at night (do sweep during the day) when I am winding down. It is therapeutic. Don't know if anyone has the same feeling.

Started playing this time last year around the 1st of July, even then there was quite a lot of dragons around. Disappeared a bit and came back when I sorted my phone and Ipad out game had changed a lot since then, new dragons etc
Now I'm level 42 don't power level, visit couple of times a day to collect money and gems if any, islands are coming along. Got every rare dragon I think? Wish I had more panlongs dragons though .
Hope they don't keep doing them bring them back events as its nice when you see people with unique dragons you didn't manage to get or you have and they don't
Either way great game, couldn't start again too complex and hard haha. Love my account, feels so much better than the robot game they made, I have an account on that too, no1 has one though .
Yes, they still play. My nieces send me gems everyday, but I dont think they are as active as before. My sister lost her park about 8, 9 month in. She started over, and is still going strong. When BFS announced players can go up to level 45, it only took her about 3 days or so to move from level 40 to 45. She then notified us via email, "I am the first one in the family to get to level 45. I spin and all I got was XP. A little fun for the unemployed. ." She was in between contracts at the time.
It is nice to have strong family support. But the ultimate support of all is from my husband.
- He does not have any games on his phone except for DV. When he learned that I need gems he downloaded DV. - He listens attentively, occasionally smile, when I tell him about my plans about DV....etc - One of our favorite shows is Survivor, CBS. We recorded it, and would watch it later. This last season, he watched Survivor as I watched DV. He let me be.
play dv in early december but neglect the park for singing monsters. i guess i am one of those women who can't multi tasking. i can only concentrate at one thing at a time. so, after max out my level in singing monster i get back to my park in dv and it was may 2013. i realize now that i miss out a lot of dragon but i use dv for winding down after the hectic day. those young adults sometime behave like children. can't use credit card to buy gem so the only way is to trade. at first i was reluctant to add friend in facebook ( i play on android ) because the drama that going to add in my timeline but finally succumb to the need of buying ebi. i manage to buy it in level 29. now i am level 32 and trying for sun dragon.
