Sitting in a plane above beautyful Sweden and reading your texts. Came to think about when I 1981 had the oportunity to use a Scribona plus - a sort of computor with 17 k intern memory. Have to stop. landning ☺️ picture later.
My first computer was a hand-built prototype for one of the early scientific workstations. The printer was a Diablo daisy wheel that looked like a huge typewriter. When the computer got hot the flux would run and I'd have to run the diagnostics...characters scrolling down the screen Matrix-style. From that I'd pull the faulty board, clean the flux bridge with a swab and alcohol, then hit it with some nail polish. Oh, and it used 8-inch floppies. The monitor was a black background with white characters.
My next computer didn't even have a monitor. It was a "portable" that used thermal paper.
And remember word processing, when you had to embed the code for your formatting into the body of the text?
Does "XYZZY" ring a bell for anyone here?

And here comes the pic!
Double floppydiscs. When you should move text from one page to another, you did a certain commando and went for lunch - the machine gently making it's noice mowing data from one disc to the other.
I - or rather the secretary - even wrote bigger reports on that thing, still to be found in the Swedish library database Libris ☺️
Around 1969, the boss for which I was working was a technology freek and he bought me a typing machine which allowed you to ... align text on the right side by calculating the pixels to obtain that wonderfull right alignment we needed for printing texts. T was not that easy but top technology in those days. When I think that now we just click the align icon in word ... Miracle !
GregDarcy, you are abeolutely right, you just missed spreading pictures of you doing all these things. IMHO FB is the most stupid idea introduced on the net. I just went shopping and was waiting my turn at the bakery shop. In front of me a good looking guy in his mid 40th, totally absorbed by his mobile phone and thus not noticing it was his turn to be served. So I had to tell him that it was his turn. He started with all kind of excuses for beeing digged in his messages. Probably knowing that his wife was ironing his blue shirt was of outmost importance! Ever seen kids sitting next to each other and only communicating via FB! totally nuts. People are seeking recognition by telling others their exploits, as listen in your post. Really sad. The german police issued a mesaage telling the people to NOT publish their kids pictures on FB with open view. Imagine, one of those kids one day applies for a serious job and the boss discovers a baby picture naked on a fur blanket. How will today s kids react when they grow up ?
Kids today have no shame...I should know as I'm one of them..not cuz of media or anything but cuz I was a rapping mirror in a play. Once you're a mirror u have no shame left in you lol

I wouldn't take any serious job that objected to my adorable half-naked baby pictures!
On the other hand, young posters of hare-brained escapades may experience some unanticipated ramifications, although older FB users are surely aware of the pitfalls by now.

Do not even get me started on the topic of social media. And no, I am not another old person who's bitter (thats the excuse of the "cool" kid youths these days...) because that is not true, i am just not addicted to my phone, and i object to social media. I dont mind sharing nice news, but nowadays people think its more important to capture a moment on a phone and share it on facebook then to aftually enjoy it; or they think its "social" to say "aww how cute" on facebook rather than have a proper conversation face to face.

Too late

Had dinner at my sister and she had invited a young friend of them who showed us the gadget she just got from her office : an apple watch. Wow, that is certainly something fun but only for young eyes and very sharp finger tips ! I have already difficulties with my I phone when it comes to writing, but on that watch!

Love my Apple Watch! It has reduced the need to take my phone out of my pocket by at least 80%. Games and camera are now the bulk of pocket withdrawals. Now if only Dragonvale ran on it (for the love of God, BFS, please DO NOT make Dragonvale for the watch!)!

That's true but sometimes people -coughs me coughs- have a hard time saying personal things to a persons face and prefer to use the online scape as a medium of sorts..just offering my opinion not saying anyones wrong. But I also don't spend all my time online either. The important thing is to know that there's a balance to what is too much or too little in my opinion ugh that got way more serious than I wanted it to
I hope you're doing well. How is the family? I'm sure the kids are so grown up now.
Think of you often, Jack
HI!!!!!! The kids are doing great.. They are 12 and taller than I am.. How are you and your family.. I miss you too my friend..
All is well here in CT. I just turned 59, and am looking forward to retirement. I now have 36 yrs of service at Pfizer, and have enough points to retire, but enjoy working.

It can never be too serious That brings up another problem that I talk about often : people in my year think everything's a joke, they never want to talk about serious things, which at times are necessary - not that I want to talk about them all the time. They think life isn't serious (not saying that you do that, but I'm just mentioning something I thought of)
Oh and I agree that it is hard to say things to people's faces, but: Firstly I think it's better to have the conversation face to face. I too often am too scared to say things to people'sface, but often it turns out better if I do (not that I always do, unfortunately) Secondly I think that if you do have to say it via an online medium, can't you just text them? Social media isn't necessary for that. But I do agree it's about balance...

I made this little one first, then enlarged the head pattern to fit over her head. The wings and tail are attached to a backpack base, so it will be wearable as she grows. At her request, the mouth opens to receive candy, which goes into a pouch!

Given that Sanguinite is another word for Bloodstone, I decided to name my Sanguinite "BS" (after our dear member). But the dragon proofed very difficult to breed. A few days ago I bred two Sanguinites back to back in Cave and island.
This weekend we went to see "the battle of the year" in Braunschweig. And it was in Braunschweig that I finally hatched those little dragon. To all of you who don't live in Germany : the City of Braunschweig has "BS" as sign for cars (each car in that region has a sign that begins with BS) Isn't this a nice coincidence ?
I'm curious : is the battle of the year known in USA ?

I should add that these days i celebrate 25 years on the web. I started with the introduction of windows 95 and a modem of 54kb! So I have seen many new things on the net. Many of them made for people who act before thinking.
My exposure to the 'net dates back to '91 or so w/ Unix and shortly after Win 3.0 and a 9600 baud modem.
Over the years I have seen the web take on the personality of the characters involved in the 'net of the 90's: Students and professionals sharing information. Because there were so many students, many of them 18-24 year old males the internet is still very much a tool of adult humor and topics, with a strong need for the 'wowzer!' effect of seeing something bigger than life. Most everything is based on information and entertainment, but not necessarily in that order and even the information tends to be infotainment
'91 here. With a 2400 baud modem (there was 1200 before that?) I also remember upgrading to 14.4
My first computer was a hand-built prototype for one of the early scientific workstations. The printer was a Diablo daisy wheel that looked like a huge typewriter. When the computer got hot the flux would run and I'd have to run the diagnostics...characters scrolling down the screen Matrix-style. "My" first computer was my father's -- the Kaypro 2x. And yes, I remember embedding codes. WordStar I believe? I miss that still sometimes...
