50 breeds with AvFlytrap (Rare) + WvEarth (Rare) in the normal cave.
EvFlytrap (Rare) 4 WvFlytrap (Rare) 1 AvFlytrap (Rare) 2 FvEarth (Rare) 3 WvEarth (Rare) 1
Flytrap 6 Paradise 4 Fern 5 Underbrush 3 Tropical 9 Lake 1 Mist 5 Canopy 6
Some notes on this first round of testing:
The parents themselves were Rare dragons (as opposed to Uncommon or Common). 11 offspring were Rare Dragons (22%). They were all variants of the parent dragons. To repeat myself a little, they were all rare variants of the parent dragons, and not the Uncommon Variants. The most common rare dragons that were bred were not clones of the parents.
Some musings and speculations on this first round of testing:
20% does not seem especially Rare for Rare dragons. 0% of uncommon dragons in 50 breeds does seem especially Rare. Using a variant dragon as a parent might boost the chance of receiving a variant of that dragon. Using a Rare variant dragon as a parent might boost the chance of receiving a rare variant of that dragon.
Now going to run 50 tests of the same parents in the Epic Breeding Cave.

Another thought that has finally occurred to me ... Uncommon variants have a duplicate element that occurs in the Hybrid, so the Uncommon Flytrap (Jungle/Fire) variant is the Fire variant. But to breed it you need 2 fire elements amongst the parents. The combination I am using does not double up on any element. That's why I have not bred any Uncommon variants in this round of testing.

50 Breeds with Flytrap (Jungle+Fire) & Paradise (Jungle+Fire) in the normal cave.
Paradise 27 Flytrap 13 Fire 2
FvParadise (Uncommon) 4 FvFlytrap (Uncommon) 4
16% Uncommon dragons, and as above, there was no chance of a Rare dragon being bred. We did not breed a Jungle Dragon and only 2 Fire dragons. The Primary dragons seem less common than the Uncommon dragons. We did not breed the Fire variant of either of the Primary dragons.
This, and the previous testing, seem to indicate that you have a much better chance of breeding a variant of one of the parents, than just a random mix. We did not receive a variant of the Paradise dragon in the first test, even though it has the same 2 elements as Flytrap. This is good to know in our chase for the variant dragons. I have elsewhere just bred back to back variant Grotto dragons, and Grotto was indeed one of the parents.
Okay, so now I want a combo that will give the chance of rare and uncommon variants to see how the odds play out.
