I don't have the money to buy roses so I am considering what my best options might be. I'm wondering if purchasing all the available habitats first is the way to go. It is likely that I will be able to breed any dragons I miss out on at a later time, at least during BEB, but habitats would have to be purchased during BEB with gems and I'm still saving up my gems to buy all the stuff I missed out on cause my park was down for 9 months. Stuff like whatever it is that lets you level epic dragons to 15 and so on. Does this make sense? Should I get the habitats first? I can get 2 auras and 2 omnitats for 7650 roses and then work my through the dragons. I hate to miss out on any dragons of course, but I will have to give some stuff up that's just reality. It's all about what is the smartest decision I can make under the circumstances.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Hi cynmed, love your icon! fwiw; my personal strategy back when I was starting out, about 6 months ago I think, and it was a logic work through rather than a numerical or cash work thro, cos I can't think like that ( ) was that real estate always comes first...so there are homes for the dragons; and omnitats are top, they have proven to be so useful in so many ways, and allow me to field dragons to earn, when I don't have the DC or gems to upgrade full habitats ( so I bought all 3 omnis); then event dragons that will not be available to breed later ( my error here was not buying monoliths, and they have not been available since, other than for gems, which I as yet have few of and run out all the time); i am sure other vastly more experienced players will add strategies in response to your q, and from different points of view, so you can select or combine a strategy that suits your intentions for, and enjoyment of, this fab game cheers and much koala to you!
Your personal strategy seems most logical to me even when the logic assumes a numerical or cash work through . Real estate always comes first. That makes a lot of sense. As well as giving priority to dragons not available to breed later. To my knowledge the only dragons not available to breed at some point in the year (BEB included) unless you already own one are the monoliths. Is that true? My park was still broken during the monoliths so I did not have the opportunity to get one. Were you able to understand right away that monoliths were not going to be breedable unless you had at least one? Was there a way to pick up on this while they were still available? Monoliths do seem unique in this way but if it happens again I hope to see it coming and react accordingly.
Thanks so much for your cheers and koala. Right back at you !
I know this is just speculation, but does anyone have a guess when the limited dragon will become available and a rough guess as to cost.
I purchased the Aura habitat and planned to get the Serenity Dragon at the end of today once I meet my max. But when I made that plan,I wasn't thinking about saving up for the limited. I want to make sure I have enough roses to purchase it if I am unable to breed it when it comes out. If I plan on 2000 tomorrow and 1000 each day till the limited dragon appears, I should have enough time to save for it, right? Or should I hold off on getting the Serenity just in case the limited comes out quickly or is really expensive?
We should earn 23,500 roses by daily collection. I have tried my best guess on banked roses with daily competition and matching games to be about 2500 roses. Hoping on banked friends gifts to be about 9000 roses. This should give me 35,000 roses. Before this event, I had the Love, Thorn, Rose, and Moonstruck dragons and pedestals, the rose bench, and all 3 Omnitat Habitats. So if I purchased all the new merchandise, habitats, pedestals, and dragons it would cost 26,860 roses. That should leave me 8,140 roses for the cost of lthe imited dragon and pedestal. So as long as the limited dragon doesn't turn out to be ridiculously expensive, then I should be able to get everything without spending money, right?
I have spent money in all previous event so I am worried that I missed something. I am also worried that this will be the only doubles weekend. If so, and I need to spend money for roses, I would rather do it now. Any thoughts?

First q are monos the only must buy/win draggies: I think (HUGE CAVEAT HERE...THIS NEEDS ONTO IT PLAYERS LIKE BUFFY AND ECHO AND MODS TO COMMENT, so please be aware I may be wrong!) there are other dragons which you have to buy or win the first one, in addition to monoliths; thorn and darkling may be two, and I THINK there are others where if someone is kind enough to put their won/purchased draggie in coop, you can epic breed to get that dragon ( omg almost pulling off sounding like I know something * hysterical giggle* so not true ) q2 did I know about monos having to buy first one at the time of availability; no, but also didn't ask forum ( embarrassment) cos back then I thought they were ugly ( the monos not the forum!) and didn't want them. Have come to appreciate their pastel colours ( I love the whole landscaping part of this game) AND they are crucial/super useful in some breeding combos... Now I want one lol! my best advice: be not afraid to ask these wonderfully generous forum wise elders for tips may many koalas come to live in your park!!

Indeed! My current strategy: play the match game, writing down the values on paper until only the 50 cards (100 on doubles) are left, then exit the game. Spin the wheel until 1 try is left (hoping for gems!). Then, when close to the max, start the arena and use the last try to finish the match game... netting said 298 (on doubles) roses to the bank!
I need more coffee or an even more dumbed down version of this.

Ya, it seems a lot of them become breedable through the coop.
I think that both thorn and darkling were breedable during BEB. But I certainly could be wrong. I think the only dragon not breedable either through the coop or with a pair during BEB was the monoliths. Of course that is just what I think. I have only come to that conclusion based on my limited experience which is a poor indicator of truth I imagine. However, if there is another dragon besides a monolith that has not, as of yet, been made available to breed, even during BEB, unless you own at least one, I do not know what it is.
Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it.
Sounds to me like you know heaps and your willingness to share with your peeps is awfully nice thank you for the kind advice
here's my dang corkscrew I raise my glass of zinfandel Many, many koalas to you. And apparently a little poem as well
Snowflake also work the same way as Monos. They need two of the same element as parents. Any regular limited can only be bred out of season by using two of them as parents Any gem/crystalline dragon CANNOT be bred out of season. Other limited epics can be bred out of season with just one parent, so can be bred year round in the coop if you can find a friend.
Your priorities in using roses will depend on your preferences. If you want decorations get them. They are only available during the event (and usually BEB) If you want dragons, get the habitat, then hold off until you find what is needed for the limited dragon. If that proves to be a regular get that as a priority. Otherwise choose event dragons based on what your friends are sharing — fill the gaps. In the mean time concentrate on breeding the event dragons in the coop. They are beginning to come through as people get the needed roses.

I feel that if this is the case I'm being somewhat blackmailed! I've already bought $7.99 of roses and now have one Aura habitat and the Serenity dragon, and it really bugs me to have to buy something I absolutely have no place for.

Why only the 50 cards (100 on doubles)? Won't leaving any two matches until the end work? Or do you collect roses as you match during the game so you want to save the most for last thus netting the most roses to bank?

Do you already have a rose, thorn, love, moonstruck dragon and pedestal? If not you can get those through breeding and that counts toward the requirements. And as you buy the things you want they will also count toward the requirements. Sounds like you only need 6 more things anyway. At least if I understand this correctly.
Here's my game board today. Please let us know if yours matches.
Just looked through my collection of sticky notes. I did have 50 Teddy on the bottom left corner of one, and felt the rush of lotto fever! Sadly, I'm not a winner. Still hanging onto the sticky notes though. Edit: my tallies: 50 14 100 14 100 14 14 6 40 30 60 6 6 30 6 60 50 40
My match game today: took 4 of 10 tries (i left the 100 rose pair unmatched) 100 50 40 100 60 60 50 40 06 06 30 14 06 30 14 06 14 14
Soooo...after reading all the great advice/tips posted .... After leaving match game unfinished, i went to spin wheel & used my remaining 3 tries ..got 30, 80 & 2 roses ...this leaves me 1 try left ... later will return to match game (after i have set my final arena going & after reaching with 1-2 roses of max allowed for the day) & use my final try to match my 2 remaining 100 rose cards .... Hopefully this nets me max roses banked... Then will bank final arena when completed... Very complicated & stressful for me, surely hope this works cuz i messed this up yesterday & ended up with no banked roses from spin or match game

I just speculate here : the limited dragon will not be epic, has four elements, will be available from Next Friday through next Sunday, has a breeding combination with two fix dragons and cost round about 3500 to 4000 roses.
Also : it may help to get the needed points for the tiers if you acquire that yet to come limited dragon.
And I believe that we will get a second double weekend.
I will wait to buy a new Aura till the end. Maybe I have luck in the coop cave. And this also leaves me room for limited new dragons buyable with Roses. I can always buy the Auras in the last week of the event, and if I don't have enough roses there's also the possibility to get them later via coop too.

Ah, I see I have been as clear as mud. Let me try again... First, play the match game. Use paper to track where each number is, and once you locate the 2 highest cards (50, on non-doubles), avoid those 2 spots. Complete the rest of the match game, leaving the two 50s cards not turned over. Exit the mini game. Spin the wheel until you only have 1 try left (hopefully you can win the gems). Play DragonVale normally, until you're about to go over the limit (usually 1 or 2 roses less than the maximum). Make sure you have a challenge arena event running, then go back into the match game. It'll be right where you left off. Turn over the last 2 cards. (Yes, you want to leave the highest number for the last match, as I believe you do collect the roses as you match during the game -- correct me if I'm wrong!). You'll hit your daily max and the rest will go into the bank, then collect your arena winnings and bank them.
Whew. I'm not sure that's any clearer!

Roger. I copy. I think.
Start your 10 gaming chances in the match game. Play normally, meaning make matches along the way, and use as many tries as it takes to locate (but not match) the two Bears worth 50 each, regularly, but 100 each this weekend. Write down where the Bears were.
Exit match game
Go spin the wheel until you've used 9/10 total gaming tries. Exit wheel.
collect roses until you get just below your daily maximum and then go back in to match game, and match the Bears which will be in the same places they were when you exited the match game. The overage the Bears provide will be banked, and if you have the arena going as well, you'll get almost 200 banked points (400 on doubles)
Did I copy?
Clarification: that's a great strategy for gaming and getting to your daily max, but the only important thing for banking is that you are near the max when you hit those Bears. Not whether you've used up 9 chances or where you've used them, right
Last Edit: Jan 30, 2016 16:32:36 GMT -6 by waggintail

Oh. If that's the case, I'll delete or revise my last post so it doesn't confuse. Do all correct matches made after the daily max is reached get banked, because it counts as only the last gaming "try"

Yup, sounds right! And if you sketch a grid (or print out 9 or so on a sheet of paper, for ease of use), you can merely write each card value down as you uncover it - that way, no mistakes on any of the turns. And yes, you don't have to spin - I do because I want the gems, but that's up to you. I DO recommend completing the match game completely (except for the 50 cards) with your tries though, and not stopping until you clear the entire rest of the board. If you don't, then the partially completed match board will turn up the next day after reset - and since you've already used the 50s cards (100 on doubles) to put you over the max and bank, you'll have to clear the rest of that board and start a new one in order to have access to the high card set again. Did I sufficently confuse you?
I thought you were saying you were not making any matches (but writing down the numbers) until just before the daily limit so that it all went to the bank.
I don't think so, I was under the impression that the roses were added to the tally after each successful match. Anyone know differently?

I have ALL the dragons except the new Aura dragons, and I only collect the pedestals I really want, so there's nothing I want to spend my hard earned roses on except for one more Omnitat habitat and the new dragons, but it seems they will be locked to me if I don't agree to fritter away my roses on useless stuff!
