Dragon Breeding - The Basics
There are 4 Base elements of dragon, Fire, Earth, Water and Air. These cannot interbreed with each other (including like + like)
There are 4 Location elements of dragon, Jungle, Desert, Cavern and Fairy. These cannot interbreed with each other.
So every breeding pair must include a dragon with a Base element and a dragon with a Location element.
Each combination of these two elements produces two hybrid dragons. For Example Fire + Jungle makes Flytrap and Paradise. 32 hybrid dragons are possible.
Variants
However, each of the 32 hybrids, plus the 8 primary dragons, can have have a variant from the 4 base elements. These are essentially recolourings of the original dragon, and it means there are 5 different colourings x 40 dragons, so there are 200 hybrid dragons. For example
Here is the Original Fire Dragon
Below is the "Fire Variant" of the Fire Dragon (FvFire), you can see that it has the extra Icon at the Top Left, the breed time and earning have changed and it has an "Uncommon" tag at the bottom
Below is the "Earth Variant" of the Fire Dragon (EvFire). You can see that it is tagged as "Rare".
Testing so far indicates that you can only produce a variant dragon of one the breeding parents. So
Fire + Jungle = Flytrap or Paradise or FvJungle (Fire variant of the Jungle Dragon). Or Fire or Jungle as primary dragons are a possibility from breeding as well. (Actually, I can only confirm Fire at the moment. Testing now to make sure Jungle is a possibility as well.)
Breeding with a variant dragon also adds the variant element to the mix. So
Earth + FvJungle = Flytrap, Paradise, Fern, Underbrush or FvJungle or FvEarth or EvJungle. Or Earth or Jungle :-) (or Fire?)
Even though the mix of elements is there, it will not produce EvFlytrap, EvParadise, FvFern or FvUnderbrush.
Epic Dragons
At the time of writing there are two types of Epic dragon; Rainbow and Fossil, with a couple of different types of each type. Breeding rules for them are unknown at this time and discussion is underway at the DV World Rare Breeding Guide
Hybrid Dragons
Here is a look at each of the hybrid dragons we can see so far. The Fairy dragon is still a bit of a mystery, as it's location is still not available to me yet, and I am currently Level 23. Those hybrids will be added as soon as we can.
These are the just the regular hybrids. The variants of all the dragons ('sept the Fairy dragon/hybrids) are in a post below.

Eggs sell for a lot less than the equivalent dragon.

Food Required to Level up a Dragon
The food required to level up your dragons is different depending on the type you have. We are currently collecting information (post in this thread with anything you have discovered) and will be adding it to the table below. Currently Level 10 is the max, and there are no orbs (Yay!).
* Confident this is a holdover from the original programming and will be fixed in a future update.
