I realized that the habitats I saw in sbf's park are not fixed in place but can be moved to wherever you have a clearing. I'm going to spend more E clearing, buying habitats and filling them with the Rift dragons to begin earning more E.
I am Very unclear about breeding rules.

Thanks for that! Based on the photo below from that FAQ page, I am trying to figure out where the Transfiguration Tower is so I can concentrate on clearing that area next. Also, it does not appear that we can visit the Rift portion of any of our friends' parks. If anyone figures out a way, post it here.
Based on your other post for what you cleared, that looks like the tower. Use 320 and find out!

The increasing costs to clear sounds just like Paradise Bay's increasing costs to clear land, or increasing costs to buy more islands in DragonVale itself

That's exactly the strategy I made up for myself. Level up habitats to put my Level 20 Elemental Rifts in to earn more E to reinvest. That's how I had my main park running.
At least, I was able to breed Kamphos. Used Water Rift and this years Rift-Water-Cold-Housedragon-which-name-I-cant-remember.
So, just to check, I cleared the same square Cyn did, and here's a fun surprise...
No tower silhouette! My first thoughts from this is that the locations of things in the clouds is random to a certain degree, or at least not consistent between parks.

yea, you can move the floating habitats AND the rift breeding cave. Not the main rift gate/airship platform though. Interesting. You can fit more in a small space.
Long day, kind of bad timing for me personally to have the app update but I have a chance to post now. A few things I didn't see added here yet:
•gemstone habitats cost more gems to buy now, apparently the cost increases with either the number you already have (bought) or perhaps number of gemstone dragons you have? Unclear so far but I am at level 100 so I got 5 new habitat slots and went to buy one but stopped when I saw it was. 525 GEMS. No thank you. A friend's was 150 though. So not sure what dictates cost, I've bought 9 gem habitats in addition to the 1 reward one from the Ovalith event.
•bramble, darkling, and thorn are now officially considered golden hybrids in my opinion, because they cannot have traits on them, which so far is limited to the initial 100 basic hybrids minus the 10 primary elemental dragons so really 90 dragons can each have any of the 10 traits. The primary elemental rift dragons and the house mascot rift dragons, in addition to the 6 new dragons that were released today, appear to be "trait-locked". New phrase I'm deciding to coin lol.
•no twin rifts, still, at this time. Except via wish, a prize from an event, and very rarely (like Twovalith rarity) - a mystery egg. I'm very upset by this.
•we need habitats ("regular rift") for each new dragon we breed in the rift breeding cave, which can also produce dragons that do not have a rift trait, but we can "release"/sell them for the new currency, which I wish had a shorter name. Rift-E? Lol. This will take time, room, but generate the new currency. We can only bring over dragons with the rift element/trait. So I had a mystery egg I was saving in my social menu and collected it after the update, to receive a blazing dragon with a cold trait. Looks pretty cool. It's now in the Rift dimension, can breed in the rift breeding cave, and while it doesn't have a rift element it does contribute fire, air, and cold (and rift I guess technically but any dragon that can breed in the rift breeding cave does).
•the dragonarium FINALLY has the incubation times for all dragons, and also shows which traits you have unlocked, what it looks like, and funny enough the incubation time for any dragon when you select a trait is 0:00, because the breeding/incubating time is instant.
I will update this as more info is collected/learned. I have extremely mixed feelings about the update. Still unsure about what the 6th year anniversary dragon will be, unless the 6 new ones are it, like we had "three 300 dragons" instead of a "tri-centennial" dragon. I don't know (how to feel about) if each trait on any dragon has a different egg pedestal design, and thus collecting 900 new ones. And getting 900 new dragons in the Rift dimension. I will wait to see how this plays out since it's just U Day (update day) and things vary over time but the consensus from the Fan Faire group seemed to be: "Overwhelming" and "game changer".
One thing that bugged me today was using Kairos to speed up time didn't effect the dragons going between my park and rift. They stayed a 2 hours, which was disappointing. The other thing I tested, in case anyone was wondering about it, was breeding a plant rift in the co-op a bunch of times with another plant rift to see if maybe cloning rules changed. Sadly, no, only regular plants. No rift twins.

I can answer this one. No screenshots this time but I bred a dark trait Gamma and an earth trait Gamma trying for... one of the new dragons, I forget which, but the eggs both looked the same: sort of shiny trading card style Gamma egg, with no colour differences that I could tell. And, nobody asked this one, but I believe I released the second (dark) one for rift currency straight away, and the dragonarium still says that I have both traits unlocked for it. So that's something, I guess!
Soapboxing a little here, but I think that a lot of the concerns that people have right now, while justified, could easily sort themselves out over time. The Rift seems like, well, a lot of things, but some words to describe it could be 'level playing field', 'long tail' and 'endgame content'. We're right at the start, all gated to roughly the same point via the new currency and because we don't have much in the Rift unlocked yet we're earning it slowly. When we've got dozens of maxed out Rift habitats and are earning thousands of rifty crystal things a day the escalating costs won't be so bad. I'm going to give it a chance, and then whine to BFS for changes if it still feels too restrictive in a few months.
My main concern at the moment is food. There's nothing in the Rift to generate more of it (yet?) and the costs to get even a single variant of each Rift-infused dragon to max level are just astronomical. This is particularly bad as there's no real efficient way to get food in large quantities; the food tiers above beanstalks aren't particularly good time-wise or DC-food ratio-wise.

My main concern at the mo is a rising sense of hysteria at not understanding 1/nth of what all this is and how it works. I am in utter AWE of you intrepid folk who are working it all out and uncovering stuff and breeding stuff and moving stuff and stuff it I am soooooo overwhelmed. So, (pulls self together) I shall play my normal DV game, and dip a toe into rift, well perhaps a loooong wand specially made, from time to time, and hope that my tired old brain can slowly take it all in 😳 I May need to start an Utterly Rifted support group 😂

Aside from all the hullabaloo over the set-up of the new content (given how much I've groused about not having access to a similar area in another game thanks to OS differences I'm not sure I have any ground to complain here, not that I'm sure yet whether I want to or not... lol) I am mildly peeved at getting handed two *more* rift dragons. I totally could have gotten that blasted uber island but nooooo... >->

Thanks to been given two rift dragons I already had, I ended up with THREE Fire Rifts. Sold one in the Rift and was disappointed it does not give Es, but DC.
Does anyone happen to have tons of game crashes after the update? On my tablet the App crashed at least 10 times.

This is a big update and I have mixed feelings about it given my gotta catch 'em all heart, but I think my strategy will be to get one of every hybrid with A trait, breeding as needed to unlock more for each hybrid but only keeping the original one. I'm not super happy we got another plant and fire rift when I'm still missing earth but oh well.

Hi, I'm here for the Utterly Rifted support group. I'm utterly Rifted confused!!!! I'm utterly Rifted annoyed!!! I'm annoyed with the increase to feed the rift dragons. I'm confused with these new rules. Rift, trait, alignment, unlocking. What?? It's like they are asking us to jump through hoops, while rubbing our bellies, patting our heads, while skipping, and don't forget to whistle, while hopping, while twirling batons, and don't forget to kick.
Main park GCID: purple-jale Lost baby park Working on my seconds and pedestals.
I bred a glass dragon in the rift last night, and decided to hatch it and move it to my main park to see what would happen. It has the lightning trait, so it's wings are dark blue and shiny. Just now I looked at the breeding cave and filtered for rift, and found that the glass dragon with a trait shows up.
I too am trying to buy more habitats to get more E faster.
I really enjoy the beginning of games, and discovery, so I am happy so far about the update.
Michele
P.S. it was such a nice surprise to get a new dragon for hitting level 100! (I had been building up food for such a time, so it happened quickly.)

I think you summed up my feelings. I am a long time player...and its the only game that I play. I loved the familiarity of DV. I loved making my little spreadsheets and planning this little world. I tried DVW for about 6 months, but I deleted a month ago b/c, well, it just didn't give the same satisfaction. That dopamine hit you get when your dragonarium breathes fire was just not attainable in DVW. And, now, I fear it won't be attainable here. I'll give it a shot, the update does give lots of new things to get excited about. But, it also brings a complexity that might just take the fun out of the game (for me.)
And, I'm sore I didn't feed my rift dragons to level 20 before eagerly updating. oh well!
This does make Bahmut's and Tiamut's updates much more lucrative, so I plan to only use those for rift dragons now.

I really am not sure how I feel about the update. I kind of wish they had just made a spin off game Dragonvale Rift so if you cared about getting ten thousand variants of the same type of dragon, you could. I am not interested in that part of the game. This changes the game WAY too much. I probably will not fool with the rift area that much. Right now my new strategy is to get the non rift dragons I still need and use wishes and daily log in gifts to achieve the rifts... That seems way less frustrating than trying to get the rare dragons dodo and malachite with special traits to then try to breed another dragon. No thanks!
I also am disappointed in the raise to the food costs, gem habitat costs and the airship taking resources. Boo!
The Dragonvale game I know and loved is forever changed. Sad!
One great thing for me was I did get the fire and plant rift dragons. I didn't use magic on these because I thought they would be the easier ones to get so those were new to me dragons. 😃

The FAQs say no twins at all. Have people already gotten some twin rifts?
