I don't know (how to feel about) if each trait on any dragon has a different egg pedestal design, and thus collecting 900 new ones. And getting 900 new dragons in the Rift dimension. I will wait to see how this plays out since it's just U Day (update day) and things vary over time but the consensus from the Fan Faire group seemed to be: "Overwhelming" and "game changer".
I can answer this one. No screenshots this time but I bred a dark trait Gamma and an earth trait Gamma trying for... one of the new dragons, I forget which, but the eggs both looked the same: sort of shiny trading card style Gamma egg, with no colour differences that I could tell. And, nobody asked this one, but I believe I released the second (dark) one for rift currency straight away, and the dragonarium still says that I have both traits unlocked for it. So that's something, I guess!
Soapboxing a little here, but I think that a lot of the concerns that people have right now, while justified, could easily sort themselves out over time. The Rift seems like, well, a lot of things, but some words to describe it could be 'level playing field', 'long tail' and 'endgame content'. We're right at the start, all gated to roughly the same point via the new currency and because we don't have much in the Rift unlocked yet we're earning it slowly. When we've got dozens of maxed out Rift habitats and are earning thousands of rifty crystal things a day the escalating costs won't be so bad. I'm going to give it a chance, and then whine to BFS for changes if it still feels too restrictive in a few months.
My main concern at the moment is food. There's nothing in the Rift to generate more of it (yet?) and the costs to get even a single variant of each Rift-infused dragon to max level are just astronomical. This is particularly bad as there's no real efficient way to get food in large quantities; the food tiers above beanstalks aren't particularly good time-wise or DC-food ratio-wise.
Good to know about the trait in the Dragonarium being unlocked. I had wondered that myself and was trying to figure out how to test it.
This is a big update and I have mixed feelings about it given my gotta catch 'em all heart, but I think my strategy will be to get one of every hybrid with A trait, breeding as needed to unlock more for each hybrid but only keeping the original one. I'm not super happy we got another plant and fire rift when I'm still missing earth but oh well.
This is where I am at the moment -- to get 1 more of every dragon that can have traits so I'll have one with the Rift ability. After all, WHICH trait they have can eventually be changed so having one should give me the flexibility to get anything I need. If they give us a second rift breeding cave eventually, I'll change out my main park's 2nd dragon for a 2nd Rift dragon instead.
I really am not sure how I feel about the update. I kind of wish they had just made a spin off game Dragonvale Rift so if you cared about getting ten thousand variants of the same type of dragon, you could. I am not interested in that part of the game. This changes the game WAY too much. I probably will not fool with the rift area that much. Right now my new strategy is to get the non rift dragons I still need and use wishes and daily log in gifts to achieve the rifts... That seems way less frustrating than trying to get the rare dragons dodo and malachite with special traits to then try to breed another dragon. No thanks!
I also am disappointed in the raise to the food costs, gem habitat costs and the airship taking resources. Boo!
The Dragonvale game I know and loved is forever changed. Sad!
One great thing for me was I did get the fire and plant rift dragons. I didn't use magic on these because I thought they would be the easier ones to get so those were new to me dragons. 😃
I'm glad they didn't spin off. Dragonvale was getting boring. But I was completely uninterested in going to Dragonvale World. This... adds a lot of interest while allowing me to continue in the world I've already spent so much time in.

•no twin rifts, still, at this time. Except via wish, a prize from an event, and very rarely (like Twovalith rarity) - a mystery egg. I'm very upset by this.
The FAQs say no twins at all. Have people already gotten some twin rifts?
•I had a twin of both light and dark rifts before the Rift roar event, when they were both still light and dark and could breed in the CBC. •Wishes allow you to get twins of any dragon that you already have a non-twin of, even now you could use your wish for a twin rift if you already own it as a non twin. •the rift gate prize at the end worked as an event mystery prize, same sort of thing as a wish if you had the non twin, you could get the twin of the primary rift element dragon.
So yes, twin rift dragons exist, and can be obtained, but cannot be bred at this time, since no rifts can breed in the CBC. Yet. I think the important distinction is the wording,

I have a wish and twins are not an option at the wish market and I have several of the rift dragons. I don't collect them so it doesn't matter to me, but thought I would mention it for those that do.
wOMantraNOM : "I am Very unclear about breeding rules." YOU AND ME, BOTH!
Lady Redwolf : "Based on your other post for what you cleared, that looks like the tower. Use 320 and find out!" I WOULD HAVE BUT THE COST WENT TO 515! WE'LL SEE WHAT IT'S AT AFTER RESET.
Kiwichris : "So, (pulls self together) I shall play my normal DV game, and dip a toe into rift" DON'T FORGET YOUR SUNSCREEN!
purplemoon123 : "I'm utterly Rifted confused!!!! I'm utterly Rifted annoyed!!! I'm annoyed with the increase to feed the rift dragons. I'm confused with these new rules. Rift, trait, alignment, unlocking. What??" ALL OF THE ABOVE... SQUARED!
Question: How did you guys get to 100 so fast? It takes me forever!
Second Question: Who is the idiot that suggested another dimension to BFS? Oh wait, that was me! They obviously did not read my entire suggestion. New dimension - check. Ability to populate the new dimension with seconds or twins currently languishing away in storage - FAIL! Ability to DECORATE the new dimension - FAIL! I am hopping back and forth without crashing but fear any new Apple updates to iOS and subsequent BFS updates will leave me in the dust.
My thoughts on the new content: Not liking the exorbitant changing prices through the day but hope BFS will lower them as they lose players. So now they've got me chasing "E" for a fix. I thought we had a war on drugs to stop this type of thing?
Escalating costs of dragons if you have one already. One game has 0 of those dragons. The other already has 1.
They sure fell in love with this concept. Each rift habitat you buy costs more and more. Each bit of ether you clear costs more and more. Each breeding attempt costs more and more.
Even gemstone habitats in the normal park do this now. The more you have, the more expensive they become.
Plus I'm pretty sure the eggs of mystery will have progressive pricing as well. They seem kinda cheap at the moment. First hit's free, I guess.

You may want to read MY POST HERE and short Hasbro (HAS). Currently at 95 and change, "experts" predict 100, I say 78 by January.
I think this will keep everyone (everyone who sticks with it) busy for a long time. It seems like there are "brakes" built into the system that limit how quickly we can achieve everything, so we just have to slow down our expectations of rapid progress, there isn't any timer ticking, just do a little each day...imo this is a good change of pace.
It looks like Viridian and Zaffer both require opposite dragons with specific traits. If the rules of opposite breeding apply in the Rift, then it'll be a slightly longer process to breed these dragons. For example, to breed the Viridian we'll need to breed a Dodo with fire trait and a Malachite with light trait. This means we'll have to breed a plant hybrid so we can breed it with a Metal Rift on a light alignment day. Since it looks like the next reset will bring us to a light alignment day, it might be good to start working on the Malachite with light trait at reset.
By the way, did anyone notice that the rift habitats resemble the metal habitats? My guess is that they will change their appearance according to the alignment of the rift! We'll find out soon enough...

I think the Rift's alignment is different for everyone. Mine's Plant at the moment.

Your rift dimension started out as metal trait? Mine started out as Plant trait. I think this may be random

Ah, right! I did wonder about that too. Thanks for confirming! Guess my theory's kaput, or maybe lost in the Rift...

You can likely also get them from the day 30 reward, since they are rares. But yeah, that's going to take at least 600 900 days of logging in, and that's only if no further rift exclusives are incoming.
Maybe you can petition them to exclude the riftboys from being a requirement for a blue Dragonarium.

I am so confused... does this mean I should breed a Malachite with my Light Rift in my regular park? Or can I only get this breed in my Rift park?

So with the reset today, the cost to breed in the rift went back down. The cost for clearing stayed high though, same with the cost to buy new habitats.
The bonus etherium swirls came back. I had to move some habitats to find some hiding behind.
My rift alignment stayed cold (was cold yesterday), so either it's random and can repeat or I'm stuck in a loop.
