Just throwing dragons without a plan in the rift, put air rift dragon with dark rift and got a plumewing ... pure luck as I do not understand anything on all these pairing rules.

I don't understand: metal rift day, bred dark rift X lightning rift, trying to edge toward Voltaic: got wraith w NO metal trait but a lightning trait? Is the rift trait not guaranteed to be passed to all offspring ?

I've seen a couple of people mentioning that the costs of feeding rift dragons have changed. What's different? From what I can see mine still cost the same as vonfirmath's table above. I'm food poor and can't afford to experiment too much though.

Have you been consistently providing for your Airship? The amount of etherium goes down if you miss an order, so I'm guessing that those people have just started providing for the Airship and haven't reached the max amount of etherium yet.
I've also noticed that unfinished airships take longer to expire if you miss orders. For me, it's 6 hours. If I wait that out, the next one is 8 hours. I believe the maximum is 12 hours.
I think they want to encourage us to always fill the entire airship order. If we don't, the rewards become borderline worthless.

As I understand it (so feel free to jump in and contradict me!) the trait of the offspring can be one of 4 things.
1) No trait or rift type, just a normal dragon 2) Inherit the trait of parent 1 3) Inherit the trait of parent 2 4) Take it's trait from the park alignment
I don't know how the odds of each of the above compare and whether the alignment is more important than the parents or not.
If I'm trying to breed a dragon with a certain trait I try to increase the odds by having more than one of the three potential sources match my desired alignment. For example, when I was trying to breed Antumbra (which has an earth trait) I used dark rift and ember (with an earth trait) on the day my park was aligned to earth. That way I had two sources of the desired earth trait and only one source of the unwanted dark trait.
If you hatch a dragon and it stays in the rift, then you want to sell it, do you get eth or dcash for it? It looks like cash on the "sell" button, or is there another way to do it?
Has anyone successfully bred an opposite dragon in the Rift yet? We've been assuming they're bred with say, Light Rift and a Dark hybrid in the Rift cave but I've been poking around in my friends' parks (some really cool variants you've got!) and I don't think I've seen one yet. Has anyone seen any in the wild, or confirmation they can be bred that way?
With Zaffer and Viririan both requiring them I imagine it's probably just that they're rare, but after telling everyone to breed for them like that the confirmation would be nice.

Plumewing requires and Air!Dragon (meaning a dragon with an Air Trait) and Rift Dragon. You had an Air!Dragon (the Air Rift) and a Rift Dragon (either the Dark Rift or the Air Rift) so you had the combo!

WildKatGhoul was that from a mystery egg or by breeding? I saw in Facebook that the twin rift howl we saw was likely from a mystery egg (at least I think it was the same person). I received a rift Blazing from my mystery egg and we know that the eggs are often twins so it would make sense that it could give you a twin rift as well. I have bred a couple duplicates now and none of them were twins... but if it's a 1/10 chance like the CBC, then that would still be better than nothing. I'd rather not have to buy mystery eggs, use wishes, or hope for event prizes to try to get about 100 twin rift dragons...

There are 3 possibilities whenever you breed in the Rift: the traits of the parents and the alignment of the Rift. I don't know the odds of getting each trait, but for now I'm just thinking it's a 1/3 chance either way.

More's the pity! 6 no traits out of 13 tries so far! But I'm now trying to breed smarter with arkynos' recipes!

This is one of the few things I like about the glitch from the recent update. Today I put in my fire dragon into the colosseum when it looked like it was set up for plant and Rei my fire dragon was burning everything to the ground!!!

Thanks all for your helpful responses to my plaintive Q about breeding results... I don't know what's up w my brain, OF COURSE there will be offspring w a range from none through to desired traits, it's what happens in the Vale after all...and if there wasn't that range of results we'd all breed everything by week's end! Sigh. I'm sorry to be so dense and thanks for all your patience 😊
I'm usually just a lurker on this forum, but I love coming here for new information, and it's been especially helpful with the Rift. Unfortunately, I cleared some mist randomly before realizing it was going to get really expensive really fast. So I followed the map of where to clear, and I thought I had layout 4 since I didn't find anything. But...I didn't find the Tower where it was supposed to be. I have cleared the spaces 1-5 as directed on the map as well as up into the top corner where the tower would be on layout #4. I have found nothing. I'm at a loss as to where to look next, and it's costing over 3000 E to clear more spaces. Any ideas? Is there a layout #6 I don't know about?

Are you using this map? The diagonal orientation was essential to me, wouldn't have found them without it. Still a little difficult to be sure you're on the right track. At least you have all that cleared space for habitats!
I intend to spend all this week just using my eth for clearing, then going back to enlarging habitats.
Maybe magpac will post a pic of his masterful use of cleared space and Tetrising. 😊

I also followed the map and thought I was on layout 4, only to realise that I'd miscalculated my grid and that I was actually on layout 2! I'm not sure if this is the case for you, but you might want to relook at your grid to see if you've made the same error... :/
