Thanks all for your helpful responses to my plaintive Q about breeding results... I don't know what's up w my brain, OF COURSE there will be offspring w a range from none through to desired traits, it's what happens in the Vale after all...and if there wasn't that range of results we'd all breed everything by week's end! Sigh. I'm sorry to be so dense and thanks for all your patience 😊
You are asking the questions for which many of us need the answers, and may feel too uncomfortable to ask. So, thank you for putting yourself out there!

Nothing about this Rift makes sense. The alignment means nothing bc I never get that trait. I gave up and will toss things in to breed but don’t care about this part of the game.
Question to the rift gurus: I think I have r ad that if you have two same plain dragons with two different traits (like I have now two swamp dragons with each a different trait) i can get rid of one and the one I keept will have both traits and to do that I have to go to the transformatin tower ??

Yes!

Are you using this map? The diagonal orientation was essential to me, wouldn't have found them without it. Still a little difficult to be sure you're on the right track. At least you have all that cleared space for habitats!
I intend to spend all this week just using my eth for clearing, then going back to enlarging habitats.
Maybe magpac will post a pic of his masterful use of cleared space and Tetrising. 😊
Yes, that's the exact map I used, and I have checked many times that I followed it correctly. And it seems to have worked for everyone else, so I'm at a loss as to why I didn't find anything. I have a second game that found 5C, but my main game has found nothing and it is now way too expensive to explore on my own.
On a good note, I used Kairos today and it sped up the Rift, too!
Edit: I think I figured out how to upload a picture...see below. Where did I go wrong?
I think your exploratory row is too high

You went one too far towards the bottom of the rift before turning your exploration J left, you're on layout 2. Your trait tower will appear if you go either one left or one up from the left square of the J clearing.
Edit: You can tell because you don't have that little cleared patch (what's the opposite of an outcrop?) that you're made to clear for the tutorial that makes your Rift space a weird shape. The one you'd clear down from to get to 4C. The upper left Z rules out 1 and 4, and the J would have cleared past 3 and into the 5C spot before turning. So it can only be 2. You probably cleaned up the edge of the shape before the maps came out and then misread how far down you needed to go because you'd cleared square 2 early. Easy mistake to make.

I'm usually just a lurker on this forum, but I love coming here for new information, and it's been especially helpful with the Rift. Unfortunately, I cleared some mist randomly before realizing it was going to get really expensive really fast. So I followed the map of where to clear, and I thought I had layout 4 since I didn't find anything. But...I didn't find the Tower where it was supposed to be. I have cleared the spaces 1-5 as directed on the map as well as up into the top corner where the tower would be on layout #4. I have found nothing. I'm at a loss as to where to look next, and it's costing over 3000 E to clear more spaces. Any ideas? Is there a layout #6 I don't know about?

You mean like this 20 habitats, 1 Regal, 19 Refined, 24 dragons at L20, 23 at L10, earning 710 Etherium/Hour. Etherium cap of 2765, which is nice to collect in the morning or after being out a while.
I'd just like to echo that again. Has anyone here, anyone at all, bred a single traited opposite dragon? I'm using all my attempts to try for opposites every day and it's not happening.
It wouldn't wholly surprise me if Backflip just bungled that and it's not actually possible to breed them.
I was wondering why after a week of trying light with a dark/metal, I never once got a light/dark dragon.
If true (no opposite dragons), doesn't that make Viridian and Zaffer impossible right now? Do we know if anyone has bred those two?

Whilst I don't quite have magpac's number of Rift habitats, I have followed the Wisdom Of Magpac The Admin Koala (the Path Of Womtak) : I have concentrated on getting habitats and fillings them with Rift dragons, over finding the Tower or Cave. When I run out of space for Refined (4-dragon) habitats, then I clear one miasma based on the excellent maps that have been posted here.
That way I am earning lots of Σ and am almost at the stage where I don't mind doing the 1500 Σ breeds.

I will be clearing 1 more miasma and getting 1 more Refined habitat.
But from now, any more habitats will require me to clear a square first. And after the next Refined, I'd rather have the increased Etherium cap of having a Regal (5000 Eth, +1 dragon, +65 Eth cap, so+13cap/1000Eth), over buying another Refined (7000 for the Regular+4000 to upgrade to Refined, +4 dragons, +135 Ethcap, so +12.3cap/1000Eth), particularly as I already have so many spare slots in habitats.
When I get close to being full and need the habitat slots again, I'll switch back to clearing a square and sticking a Refined habitat in it, to get the +4 habitat slots. Though the later ones will cost 15k+4k to upgrade which is only +7.1cap/1000Eth
Your post prompted me to count my rift dragons, for the first time since the rift opened. I have 61. I was surprised by how many I had. By far, most are low level, but their sheer numbers are giving me about the same Σ/hour as you, magpac.
EDIT: I never release a rift dragon that I already have one of. I feed it to level 8 or 10 depending on how food-rich I feel, and place it in a habitat to earn Σ. I name all these dragons . (a dot) since they'll be easy to find if/when I need to release them in the future.

Thanks! I see what you mean. I knew I was missing something! So if I clear the mist directly above the last habitat in that row, the tower will be above it. Two more squares of mist...I should be able to clear the first tomorrow, and have the tower in a couple days. Then I'm taking a break from clearing! I'll find the cave another time.

I did the exact same thing- started clearing in the same spot, one row too far to the left. *facepalm* I think the map sitting at a diagonal threw me off a little, and having cleared a couple random clouds before looking at the map didn't help, either. At least we are clearing in the correct neighborhood, lol!
koala with your approach to the Tower!

I didn't pay attention when I was first clearing. But I looked at the map many different times and counted, and I still missed it. Glad to be back on track now!

Thank you, thank you! This whole discussion cleared up my confusion & I was able to find the silhouette of my tower! I have a layout 4, which I suspected from the beginning, but couldn't find the corner spot to clear until this last discussion. I wonder if BFS realizes how vital the people & the help that is provided are to our success with this game. Many, many thanks to those who answer our questions AND many thanks to those who ask the questions.
lilacamy931 If I read your map right, you're on layout 5. Head in the direction of yellow 2 squares to see your transfiguration tower to the right. Follow green for your hibernation cave.
Personally I'd get some more habitats and Rift dragons first though, clearing to the buildings is going to get expensive.
