I went a bit silly buying Rift habitats :-) I stopped at #20 (5000 E). FYI #21 is 7000 E.
Then, having 2100 E left, and suddenly realising my rift was aligned to Earth, and realising Earth alignment is a prerequisite for Antumbra, and realising I had already used up all my lower E breeding opportunities today (including both 1500 E ones), I said "stuff it" in my best Aussie accent, chucked a Dark Rift + Alpenglow in to breed, and got an Antumbra!
Lucky you, that just gave me a third Alpenglow, which I hatched of course.
So I can safely sell the duplicates and just change hats and gloves in the transfiguration tower?

Yes, you can. As long as you keep only one of the new bred ones with the rift element in your rift dimension. You can't do that to a dragon without the rift element in your original park.
So there's no point in levelling up duplicate rift traited dragons then. That will save a heap of food.

I've moved to the keep all dragons with trait camp till your habitats are full. Only feed to level 8-10. The cost for rift dragon feeding is multiples higher than normal. The cost to go from 10-12 is roughly the same as from 1-10. So keeping a duplicate at 8-10 is 4-5x better than using the food to go from 10-12. You get E per level. (8-10 E vs 2 E ) for same food expenditure. Yes I will have to sell later but getting economy going faster seems to me to be better. The super long view maybe not but that's were I'm at now

I agree wholeheartedly with this approach.

I've never been a big fan of the Brass Dragon (don't know why, he just has never looked right to me), but my mind has changed after seeing him with a Fire trait. He's quite snazzy when dressed that way:
Not sure about that Cold trait one, though.😬 I only have 2 hybrids with Cold trait (Glare and Brass, and also Cold Rift), and I wish they would have done something other than a snowflake pattern. Maybe like a hail storm type pattern, lots of tiny, white and silvery specks pelting downwards and blowing around...something like that. Those snowflakes are kinda big and awkward looking. Anyhoo, I hope to get a Metal-traited Brass next. That pattern and color would probably look pretty cool with his body color. So far, the Dark- and Metal-traited hybrids have been my favorites.
Also, I did not realize Brass's 2 heads blow different elemental breaths. That makes me happy. I'm just having a big ol' Brass Dragon Appreciation Day over here. He's my new buddy.😄

To save on food and still level up, I've feeding up the Rift dragons with good color/trait combos to level 7 and then moving them down to the Islands so they are eligible for the Mythic dice roll. I only keep two Riftys on the main Island, one for each corresponding dice roll. They have to camp out down there for several days since it's only one roll each per day, but the odds on rolling 7-21 are pretty good. Once everyone 'important' is up to level 11, I'm going to start trying to roll my basic rift dragons higher (ideally to level 16). The frustrating part is going to be when they are all 16+. Those dice do not seem to like landing on a number higher than 16.
I didn't buy any Riftys with magic during the event (figured they would be breedable after the event), so I had to buy them all with Etherium. That actually worked out well for me... except for the feeding part. But, I don't mind rolling for levels. If there is one thing the Rift has an abundance of, it's time to kill.😄

So what's interesting about the whole opposite dragon problem is that people have been breeding Ghast, and it is an opposite dragon, albeit very special. It seems like the primary opposite dragons are the problem. Since backflip's response has anyone gotten any normal opposites? Are people are to breed Spore, which would also be a special opposite dragon?

Yep someone posted a few pages back that they'd bred Spore...

Opposites were always difficult to breed. Yes, I got a Dodo in my regular park by accident a few days ago. But in how many attempts with lots of other fails in THREE breeding spots? Got it while trying for Ironwrought. I bred for Ironwrought ever since it was released and I'm still trying for Twins in Coop, while I even bred successful for a second Bismuth on the other two spots. But in all this time only got ONE Dodo as a fail. How long will it take with only four (or even six) breeds a day in the rift and four other new Rift hybrids, which are easier to achieve? I think, like me, most people concentrated on many other things, than chasing after difficult opposite dragons, to start business running in the rift, that's why we don't see any success in breeding opposite rift. Likewise it is the same with Bluefire, which also was a pain to breed in regular park.
I will even concentrate on other things in the future. I got Ghast yesterday and will try for Antumbra on "Earth-(Alignment-)Day", afterwards I will try to breed for all the other basic hybrids in the rift, to create more E and have a stock of breeding material, when new rift dragons arrive, which may afford special breeding combinations.
Current status: 10 Rifined Habitats, 1 Regal, not enough space to upgrade one or two more Refineds to Regals and about thirty dragons living in the Rift. Conclusion: read above.
Did I mention, that I'm beginning to like the rift? But I still don't like the last event. Seeing that it all was part of a bigger plan, what I already hoped for during this long period of boredom, I'm quite sure, future events will be more like before.
I like the rift.. I know it was a bit of a panic when first arrived and we didn't know what to make of it. But think the cost of breeding and clearing is actually quite fair, we just couldn't do everything in one day (especially at the start). IF we could it would all be over by now. It is a long term project, which is actually what most of us still playing probably want anyway. We are still here after all !

meadowphoenix , Ghast and Spore don't require specific opposite dragons, but Viridian and Zaffer do. Has anyone reported breeding those? (Without cloning?)

Does anyone know if golden rift hybrids are possible or are we limited to the straight primary 10x10 possibilities.
I think I remember reading that it's straight primary only. Can anyone confirm?
🐨🐨🐨 🐨🐨🐨🐨🐨
ChemNerdTwin only the first 10x10 basic hybrids are eligible for rift traits, so since the primary elemental rift dragons are trait locked, you just have 90 dragons to breed and get 10 traits for each, if you want to be a completionist, whether you breed the traits or unlock them via the Transfiguration Tower. Or buy mystery eggs. If you get a golden hybrid as an outcome, it won't have a trait.

My head is still spinning trying to get this breeding down. I keep getting dragons with no traits. The alignment also plays no part in the dragons I do hatch w traits. Would pple mind listing what they have used to breed the new dragons so we can keep a list?
Just to be clear’ rift dragons can only be bred in the rift so if I need a pedestal I must try for it in the Rift?

It did take a while to get the opposite dragons in the main park, but in my rift park I'm breeding 6-8 attempts per day and I didn't get close to that in my main park, often due to 12+ hour attempts. In the number of attempts I've now done, I would expect to have had at least one by now, but maybe I've been unlucky.
But what I don't believe is that everyone has been unlucky. Remember the Ovalith dragon, and the difficulty of breeding that without cloning? Or the countless other difficult dragons that took me 500+ gems and a full month of constantly trying to get it, which seemed to be most of the gemstone/crystalline dragons? For each one of those, someone here in this forum would post that it's easy and they got it on the first try. Same with the Facebook groups, reddit group, etc. Multiple people had it the first day, despite the difficulty, due to the large volume of players and the statistics behind the numbers with that sampling.
No one has an opposite combo dragon yet, despite the thousands (or millions?) of attempts. At least no one has come forward with one, or been seen outside of Mystery Eggs. If the odds are worse than that, then none of us are ever going to get one of these dragons with a lifetime of breeding and I'd argue they missed a decimal point in their percentage calculations in the game. Or more likely, it just doesn't work and they forgot to add the 'opposite' code to the rift side of the game.
In either case, as it is right now they may as well not be available.

I never had any trouble breeding opposites, but then I was only introducing 3 possible elements into the mix. I do think the rift element as well as the possibility of golden hybrids (and traits, I'm not sure if the four outcomes of trait possibility, one of either parent, rift alignment or none, work independently of the elements or not) make these breeds different than when were just trying to get normal opposite dragons. But again, they are technically no different than breeding ghast and spore, and people have gotten those just fine. Opposites are difficult, but the probability of getting one should be spread over the whole field of possibility since there are so many players, and it doesn't look like it is.
