Help! I need advice! I haven't updated my park yet, so not sure what I'm missing. I read last night to level up Rift dragons, which I got to level 17 before maxing out of DCs. Should I do anything else before updating?
*Never mind. I just tried to update and open this Pandora's box, but it's not yet available for my Kindle Fire, it seems. I'm not sure how I feel about this- a little relieved, maybe? I'm going to enjoy my park for now...

So with the reset today, the cost to breed in the rift went back down. The cost for clearing stayed high though, same with the cost to buy new habitats.
The bonus etherium swirls came back. I had to move some habitats to find some hiding behind.
My rift alignment stayed cold (was cold yesterday), so either it's random and can repeat or I'm stuck in a loop.
I got a weird message about my WAter Rift dragon being finished incubating -- but there wasn't a water rift egg in the Nursery or any Breeding Cave.
My rift alignment stayed plant.

My Rift Alignment yesterday was Plant and stayed the same today.
Tell me BFS does not expect us to spend 4000 E everytime we want to change it.
EDIT: From the BFS FAQS: The Rift will change its alignment once each day and the current Trait will be displayed on the Rift Alignment icon, along with a timer to show how long before the Rift changes its alignment to a new Trait.
Clearly there appears to be some bugs in the cupboard!

My rift alignment is lightening. I'm so confused my head is spinning. What are these things you can click on to get ether?

I can answer this one. No screenshots this time but I bred a dark trait Gamma and an earth trait Gamma trying for... one of the new dragons, I forget which, but the eggs both looked the same: sort of shiny trading card style Gamma egg, with no colour differences that I could tell. And, nobody asked this one, but I believe I released the second (dark) one for rift currency straight away, and the dragonarium still says that I have both traits unlocked for it. So that's something, I guess!
Soapboxing a little here, but I think that a lot of the concerns that people have right now, while justified, could easily sort themselves out over time. The Rift seems like, well, a lot of things, but some words to describe it could be 'level playing field', 'long tail' and 'endgame content'. We're right at the start, all gated to roughly the same point via the new currency and because we don't have much in the Rift unlocked yet we're earning it slowly. When we've got dozens of maxed out Rift habitats and are earning thousands of rifty crystal things a day the escalating costs won't be so bad. I'm going to give it a chance, and then whine to BFS for changes if it still feels too restrictive in a few months.
My main concern at the moment is food. There's nothing in the Rift to generate more of it (yet?) and the costs to get even a single variant of each Rift-infused dragon to max level are just astronomical. This is particularly bad as there's no real efficient way to get food in large quantities; the food tiers above beanstalks aren't particularly good time-wise or DC-food ratio-wise.
Good to know about the trait in the Dragonarium being unlocked. I had wondered that myself and was trying to figure out how to test it.
It didn't work for me. I released an Wind with Air trait, and it's still showing as locked.

How do you know what traits you have unlocked? Since my rift alignment is lightening, do I have to breed my lightening rift dragon (or lightening house dragon) with another rift dragon in order for the offspring to have a trait? I tried breeding a fire rift with water rift and got a normal salamander with no rift traits. What a waste!

Random luck. The rift cave can manage to breed a dragon with no traits. I've done 3 breed so far and all had traits though.
The further adventures of "What's behind that Miasmic Ether!"
So I waited all the way to reset thinking that 515 Etherium to clear the piece next to the "black splotch" would surely come down. HA!
Still 515 (which has gone up to 650 for my next one?!?) (see my ATTN BACKFLIP post) but I coughed up the 515E and Ta,da! a Transfiguration Tower!
Just one problem though... it won't transfigure a thing... or a dragon for that matter. Won't let me choose any of the dragons in there. Do I have to clear every bit of Ether touching it? Do I have to deplete all of my DragonCash and all of my DragonTreats to the BFS Wizards to get the thing active? What to do, what to do?

Same thing happening to me. Of all the breeds I've done yesterday and one this morning only one Poison had a Trait, the rest snake eyes. Since the cost increases with each breed I have decided to only do two breeds a day until and unless BFS realigns the Rift to be more player friendly. Great way to make players not want to open the game!

Cyn do you have a elemental hybrid? You need to choose one of those to change the traits on. None of the House Rift dragons can have more than the one trait they come with.
As for not wanting to log in... I've been logging in way more than I have in weeks.
ETA: I do think the cost escalation curve is a little steep.

Hmm. Sorry about that. How odd. Did you have a Rift element Wind dragon before that? If you don't, then I suspect the elements unlock on release if they'd be unlocked on another dragon you have: I hatched my Earth Gamma first, released my Dark Gamma and have Dark available to switch my Earth one to. Maybe it was a bug. Next repeat I get I'll test again.

cyn I cleared 2 random pieces and nothing! I wonder if objects are in diff places? It's 1000 for my next breeding in the rift. There needs to be a faster way to collect magic dust aka ether. Otherwise, I'm skipping this slow painful process
Next question- where do we put all of these single rift trait dragons we are breeding? For example I have a flower with the fire trait. I moved it to my island so I could move a rift dragon up.

I think we get an even better hint where to find the transfiguration tower.
PS: I still really dislike this whole rift thing. To me, it's not a gift to us players, seems just something BFS wants to earn much money with. I hope this feeling changes, but right now it does not feel like the game I loved so much and played for such a long time.
I don't dislike the rift, but I agree that it seems like somwth BFS thought of to make money. I can easily imagine people spending lots of real life money so they can keep exploring the rift and clearing the mist.
All that aside, the rift is pretty cool and somewhat complex. It's going to take a while to get the hang of this element thing and experiment with it. The pretty Plumewing and... um, not familiar with the names yet, Viridian I think, are beautiful. But it'll probably be a while before I can start adding to my rift collection.
We share our physical lives with those in spirit. For life, like love, never dies. Love knows no limits, not even death.
You can likely also get them from the day 30 reward, since they are rares. But yeah, that's going to take at least 600 days of logging in, and that's only if no further rift exclusives are incoming.
Maybe you can petition them to exclude the riftboys from being a requirement for a blue Dragonarium.
They're kinda like solid shards of miasmic ether, so I think I'll go with shards. Not calling it E.
You say: "shards" and I think I'm in a DV World thread. I'm confused enough!
I like the term E3M, tho I know that's more of a crypto currency thing.

did you hatch it or release it for the new currency? If you "release" it, that is the Rift equivalent of selling it, but instead of DC you get the Rift currency. You need to hatch them, then maybe sell them after if you want to keep the trait. But I don't know what happens after you hatch them and sell. Just know you need to hatch for the trait to be active.
My offering of wisdom: the cost of clearing the clouds is fixed. However each cloud already had its own cost based on size and position. Think concentric squares, the inner ones being extra cheap 50-85, the next ones more expensive and so on up to the 600 or so level where it MIGHT max out. No one screamed about worse yet. And the rift dragons have SCARY appetites. 3 million a mark at level 17 ?
I believe this is a rather interesting way to keep old players busy. Wayyyyy more complex to breed anything and savage resources management wich is a welcome change for anyone who keeps breeding stuff they already have in 3 blinged out breeding caves at a million, million 5 Dragoncash a pop and think nothing of blowing a billion DC or a million food because you have stockpiles enough to please the hundreds of high level dragons you have. I went from level 95 to mid 97 almost by accident just by feeding leftovers to my rift dragons.
So this gets you the fun of starting a new game without throwing away the park you invested years in...

3 friends looking for Coop friendships. Please add all 3 and drop me the notice.
It looks like Viridian and Zaffer both require opposite dragons with specific traits. If the rules of opposite breeding apply in the Rift, then it'll be a slightly longer process to breed these dragons. For example, to breed the Viridian we'll need to breed a Dodo with fire trait and a Malachite with light trait. This means we'll have to breed a plant hybrid so we can breed it with a Metal Rift on a light alignment day. Since it looks like the next reset will bring us to a light alignment day, it might be good to start working on the Malachite with light trait at reset.
By the way, did anyone notice that the rift habitats resemble the metal habitats? My guess is that they will change their appearance according to the alignment of the rift! We'll find out soon enough...
I just noticed that I could change the alignment to that of my choice - for 4,000 E-thingies!

I have no clue what I am doing. It's s a strangely nice feeling:-) So I am just buying habitats and transferring rift dragons to my rift and trying to get as much E as possible.
