Is there really a point in keeping twin rifts? I don't plan on trying to collect all twin rifts. If I have already fed up a rift dragon, I really don't want to have to replace it and I don't want to clog up the hibernation cave with extras.
It's nice to have that as a second, instead of a normal rift.
The metal-rifted version of Cotton is much better looking than the regular version, imo. The adult size still looks pretty scary, so he'll be heading for the Fountain of Youth. This little baby guy is cute!

I got a traited Panlong today! Now if only I could get a twin Panlong in my regular park. Have to decide between choosing Panlong or Garnet from the gift gallery in two days. Missing twins of both. I’m afraid if I choose Panlong that instead of a twin Panlong I’ll get a rifted one. What should I do?
I believe this is how the calendar gifts work: if you don't have the dragon at all, you'll get the basic version; if you have the basic version but not a twin you'll get an untraited twin; if you have the basic and twin of the dragon you'll get a traited twin.
If I'm right about that I'll be getting a traited Neoteric from the calendar, which will occupy one of my three remaining slots in the Rift filled with a duplicate dragon. (Twins of Dark Rift, Air Rift and Spore.) Hmm. Think it's too soon to ask for more habitats in there? I like having one of each dragon displayed and the Rift-traited dragons absolutely definitely 100% count as separate from the basic version for this particular strain of toxic completionism.
I suppose I could chuck them in the Light/Dark reward habitats which gives me another 30 slots, albeit ones that I can't Rift-breed from. I'd either need to put away some Rainbows/Portents or wish up that last island I'm missing to get room after the first 10 though. Hmmmmmmm. 🤔

Just out of curiosity, is anyone using their Rift duplicates to perhaps replace some of their dragons from their original/main park? ie. replacing doubles and/or twins.
It seems like I'm selling a lot of rift duplicates just to breed the one I need.

Depends on what you mean by replace. If I get 2 of a dragon in the rift, I sell one from my normal park to free up space. Like if I have 2x Rift Fog and 2x Fog, I sell one of the normies.
I am getting quite puzzled by the Rift concept. In the original game we can display - theoretically - one each of all available dragons. In the Rift and with the expanded number if dragons which can have traits, even if we would only have and keep one, we cannot display them. No enough room. Furthermore, if we can more habitats for traited dragons are we just supposed to clear the mist and pile up habitate which are looking now squeeze just like sardines in a tin. There is no esthetic side in this perspective. And new traited dragons which are collected just land n the rift hibernation cave waiting for a new bunch of available habitats which we will then squeeze in a big mass of habitats. all that seems a bit stupid to me. The original DV offers goals, built ng new islands, getting new levels and habitats, organizing the islands, decorating etc. Although now, at the speed new dragons are added, "older" dragons have to make room for the new ones. Getting also over the edge. What are your thoughts about all this?

You'll get a twin one according to past practice. It goes non-twin/non-rifted, if you have that it goes to twin, and if you have that it goes to twin rifted. There's actually no way to get just a rifted dragon from it, as of now.

Well, there are still rift goals (I still need viridian and there's a goal for it), and clearing the rift is like saving for a new island/habitat (and many of my own dragons were stuck in the hibernation cave now in original DV anyway until we got new islands), and I'm pretty sure I can't level up, but that if I could, the rift would contribute. I agree that the lack of decoration isn't great tho, so I'm hoping that and more habitats is the next update.

I agree. There seems to be no real point to the Rift. I hope they add some new habitats and deco items soon, or something to make it more interesting. Something to give it a purpose. I'm out of habitat space but have zero motivation to clear more clouds. There's nothing to decorate, nothing to make it unique. Blah. So, I just keep stuffing new hybrids into the HC. If I need a stored dragon for breeding, I just switch it out with another dragon.
The biggest benefit (or detraction, depending on how you look at it) to the Rift seems to be breeding. I've been thinking about this all during the last month (BEB) and am of two minds on it.
As a newer player (I started in March or April of last year), part of me loves how easy it is to use the Rift to breed the dragons I don't yet have. But, honestly, that ease-of-breeding kinda destroys the original concept of the game. It *should* be difficult to obtain a Gemstone or a Crystalline or any of the other special/limited time dragons, and waiting out failed breeding attempts is a part of that. It's the whole challenge and purpose of the game: collecting all the dragons. It shouldn't be easy.
The solution for this dilemma would, of course, be "well, then don't use the Rift breeding den when trying for those dragons." My self control isn't that strong and, if I'm given tools, I'm gonna use them. As will every other new player. I'm talking about the overall effect of Rift breeding on the game, as a whole. It changes a lot, and it makes me wonder how well-thought out this Rift business really is.
I think the Rift serves two main purposes: a 'long tail' for completionist veterans, and a catch up tool for newcomers.
The first aspect is emphasised in the trait system which serves to push the completion ceiling higher. Getting every trait for every dragon is a heck of a task: how many people with purple fire did you know before we got Rift variants for practically every rare dragon? How long do you think it'll take to get back to it now? It provides a highly optional long term goal for those who have played for years, have fire-breathing dragonariums and huge gem stockpiles to speed-breed any new releases. Even if ticking off every box is not something the vast majority of players will care about, it is very likely now that there is something in the game that you won't have and can aim to obtain.
The second factor is mostly that of time. There is over twice the number of dragons in the game now as compared to when I started playing, but asking a new player to spend twice the time in order to catch up is not good for the health of the game. Completion (at the basic level at least, that of red fire) should be seen as an attainable thing to all players including those that have just started playing today. It's not good for player retention if that feels out of reach. The extra breeds per day and the mystery eggs help in that regard, providing both a way to catch up, and a place for adjusting in the future when even more dragons are released. The goal would be that while getting each individual new dragon may be easier, the challenge of a complete collection remains roughly the same. It's one of the same reasons why Pokemon adds new methods to get old legendaries in each generation: you shouldn't need to spend the time doing another full game playthrough for one old rare, but how do you make them both accessible and special? The Rift provides one solution, notably tempered for the new player by ramp up both in a level requirement and in time to build up the Rift as a working resource, in much the same way that old legendaries in Pokemon are tucked away in late/postgame and you can't just start with one and ruin the game flow.
I think it's been moderately successful in both regards, with some notable things that could be better. But this post is already long enough so I'm not going to go on more of an essay-rant critiquing all the aspects of #RiftLife tonight. Maybe some other time.

Yes, I was re thinking an earlier hasty post about the Rift ship, and thought that it does have a role for brand new Rifters, of giving an early entry level way to accumulate some E to get breeding....same with the wee E cyclones,..

That said, I do agree that the rift feels a bit crowded and plain (undecorated) compared to the rest of the park. I would like to see something happen with regards to "decorating" - even if it's different than the way it's done today. That said, there's always brand new ideas like:
Pulling habitats in the rift together to create an island (some type of quest / event this summer?).
Adding light! Oh my goodness is the rift dreary! (however, the lighting does show off the riftiness of the dragons well, needs to be done well)
I think as a start the rift hits the right balance (re: long term goals and new player accessibility). I also think it has great potential for extending adventure to new dimensions (oh yeah, pun very much intended). I'll give it a thumbs up for implementation

That is exactly the answer I was looking for, thank you. I just started to do the same. Rather than have two(2) normies & one(1) rift, I am starting to replace one of my normies with a rift. So in the end, I'll have three(3) of the same type of dragon, which will consist of 2 rifts & 1 normie.
It's just a little crummy to sell off a high lvl normie, just to keep the dragon population in my park at a reasonable level. I wish we had double treat days!

Hey. I’m slow. Just realized you can use berries to get a second special snowflake habitat that doesn’t count towards the limit. Score. 5 less dragons in the cave
I am glad you mentioned this, because I missed it!
You can also purchase the 2nd snowflake reward habitat for 150 gems...so if you may be running low on iceberries, that might help.
There are actually 2 reward versions available for iceberries: a "snowflake habitat' for 1995 iceberries that holds 4 dragons AND a "LARGE snowflake habitat" for 2800 iceberries that holds 5 dragons.
Does anyone know what the upgrade cost is? I am not going to have a surplus of Iceberries, so I'm trying to figure out the best plan!!

I keep a normal, twin, rift and rift twin. If you sell your only normal the mystery eggs will give that back to you rather than give the rift twin variant
I don't think that's how it works. Have you ever had that happen personally or just heard it somewhere?
I spent millions of etherium on mystery eggs, so I think I would have run into that at some point. The only non-twins I ever got were rift exclusives.

Got my zappy Neoteric and a few goldens today and I'm officially overlimited on Rift space, had to move the last one (Dark!Char) into a Reward Habitat. Nice. 💰🦆💰
Might have just missed this being posted, but it seems you have to actually hatch the mystery egg dragons to unlock their trait. Tried it by displaying a Plant!Abyss egg, and the Plant trait did not unlock in the tower for Abyss dragons. If I had bred it rather than got it from a mystery egg it would have unlocked.
While it is probably really annoying for the people who are actually collecting the TwinRiftEggs, I'm growing to like the bug that de-rifts them when stored. I keep getting duplicate TwinRifts of dragons I don't have Twin Eggs of, which I'm actually (sort of) collecting, and can use the bug to make them fit in with the other Twin Eggs I have. After BFS fixes it, I'd quite like a building that does that to eggs and dragons to be hidden somewhere in the next Rift expansion area. For this and other times when you get a traited but would actually prefer a basic.
When did the thing where the seams of traited dragons all were visible get fixed? I wasn't paying as close attention as normal over the holidays.

I forgot: tried de-rifting a couple pedestals the other day and it didn't work. They came back out of storage still swirly. Is it maybe an android thing? It seems a pretty simple concept, don't know how I could have screwed it up??
