I just want to make sure I didn't miss something...they added rift-traits to the Hidden dragons (e.g., Pond), but all require a Monolith in the breeding pair (according to the breeding hint). So at this point, it's not possible to breed the rift-traited Hidden dragons.

I dislike games that offer you to gamble special event currencies Edit: For clarity: It is no longer set goal, save patiently, and collect prize but gamble as soon as you get some currency. I will have to rethink if I will allow my kids to continue to play.
They ported that straight over from DragonVale World.
In fact that's literally all you do in DVW events. Buying stuff directly is not even possible anymore. I really hope they're not taking DV in the same direction.
It is odd they would move this direction as Apple and Google are starting to crack down on gambling style mechanisms (loot boxes, random chance with any buy-able in game currency or real money.)
I think I will just ignore that new breeding cave altogether. It will save me a lot of frustration in the long run. I will be collecting and saving my event currency as usual.

I left DV World because of this mechanic. They had an event where I had terrible luck and couldn't breed any of the new dragons, and there was no option to just save up and buy them.
I'm happy with what DV did this event, buying or taking a chance on the breeds. I'm going to pretend that new breeding cave doesn't exist unless I end up with leftover eggs.
I also dislike gambling. I finished spinning the wheel, and got the option to spend 5 gems to buy one spin, with a 25% chance of getting a chest.
Now, I get the gems free over time, and got 5 from my first 10 spins, so I decided to test it out today. I got 40 eggs. (And I've already maxed out for the day anyway.) The interesting thing was that I have the option of buying a second extra spin for 5 gems, with a 50% chance of a golden chest.
Second 5 gem spin, 50% chance of a chest, I got 40 eggs. Third gives a 75% chance. I won one magic egg.
Bad for me, good for testing!
The fourth time... also 5 gems, but back to 25% chance. Enough of that!
By the way, I didn't see even one chest on the wheel for those first two extra spins. I did see one on the third, but only one. It's not that they covered the wheel with them... so I'm not sure how good their odds are.
I don't gamble either. I'll use my spare eggs in the new breeding cave to go for event dragon dupes, near the end of the event. Otherwise, I'll just ignore it.

Do we know if the new dragons are co-op-able, or is it "No really, event breeding cave only"?
From the FAQ it sounds like it's possible to clone the new dragons. "The new event dragons (Cocoahollow, Bilby, Cumberpatch, etc.) can only be bred using the Burcadian Breeding Cave. If you or a friend already has one of these new dragons, there is a small chance of breeding another one by using that dragon as one of the parents in the regular Breeding Cave, Breeding Island, or Cooperative Breeding Cave."

1. It seems like the rift habitats no longer give you guaranteed event currency when you collect (or did that go away earlier?).
2. The guy in green on the launch screen has an egg under his arm that doesn't match any of the three event dragon eggs we can see in the market. If the first limited dragon egg doesn't look like that, we'll know there are at least two.
It is the Cumberpatch dragon. I just tried the breeding cave and got it first try, it must be my luck day!
I ran my math for the 3 new dragons. Purchase cost is just over 15000 eggs. Event is 25 days for a minimum total of 25000.

Don't forget that there will likely be at least 1 limited dragon that is released partway through the event, so you might want to save a bit more just in case.

If you're calculating egg spending, the details in the app store confirm that there's definitely going to be at least one limited dragon during the event. Don't know how much that will cost yet obviously, but if I recall past events they tend to be roughly the same price as the more expensive new non-limited prize dragons, so probably somewhere from 7000 up to 8000-something.

I did not think that DVW was so successful that they would apply that model to what is already a long lived successful game! 😧
I quite DVW because of this game model. I will be sooo disappointed if they continue on with this. So as some have said I am going to ignore the breeding island just like I ignore the rift ship. Hate the chest option and am hoping with them trying to use up our eggs in so many ways they will make it possible for us to daily gather all our friend gift eggs with no limit for breeding. That should solve the crashing problem they said was the reason they put limits on before. If we aren’t saving them but using them on breeding.
Enough sour notes. I am just going to play like I have and see what happens. Try to not worry about getting all the dragons if it doesn’t work out. And enjoy the DV community antics. An always pleasant side show to the game.
