Platform: iPad Accepting New Gifts: Thanks friends; this game now a solid chore, no longer a delight sadly, so taking an indefinite break. Koala to all. Forum Name to Tag: kiwichris01
Thanks for posting kiwigirl , it's really helpful to have the views of the keepers of smaller or newer parks; for park keepers who have max level parks it's really hard now to imagine what it's like to begin. We sometimes talk about how hard we think it must be...but maybe not so much, when many/most of the 'fails' are still desired dragons... That's something to factor in, that the Overlords may be trying to attract new park keepers, not so worried about the more addicted, erm, committed players...
This event is dead to me. Level 124. All caves and rift to 5000 and nothing. Not wasting my resources and definitely not spending cash. I’ll just wait for the harvest event. If they mess that up, I may be done.
A newbie’s point of view.... I discovered DV less than a week before this event started. I love it! I have no friends, no store of gems, no rift, and certainly won’t spend real dollars on it..can’t anyway. I have read all the posts with great interest, and was surprised to find the majority don’ t like the event. I don’t doubt for a minute that your reasons are good.. I have no experience of other events to compare it with. But it is helping me get ahead quicker than I otherwise would. Sure, I don’t complete boards, but i’ve come close a couple of times. I have the large omnitat, which wasn’t available otherwise, and I hope to get a chrysalis dragon or two before the end. Perhaps this event is aimed more at new players rather than experienced ones?
I have found over the years that "unhappy with" posts outnumber "happy with" posts even when the average response is clearly "happy with." And there is usually little response from "ok, don't feel strongly one way or another."
I understand what people are saying, especially from the history (there was a "golden age" of DV where events were special, and DV was a low-stress breeding game). Personally though I am not upset. Not excited either I didn't do the airship, I can see not doing the cards, except I would be selling these extra dragons anyway. If this is a permanent addition I will wait to see how that is implemented before reaching my conclusion. As events go, this isn't my favorite *shrug*
I was trying to think out of the box this weekend and came up with an idea I posted to the "ATTN: BFS" thread
iOS GCID EuroKnuter Friends ALWAYS welcome, but I'm full for GT buddies =) Rockin' an ElektronX Jet Icon!
I feel a little less stressed about the game, I just got the timer for Oracle in both parks, so I can be pretty sure I will be able to afford the other limited, and hopefully breed the non-limiteds, without spending gems and overspending etherium on bingo cards.
I got 1:03:29:58 in a non-upgraded cave from Crystal (20) and elder Light in one park, then when the upgraded cave in the other park was free, got 21:59:57 from the same combo... that's it for sure, right? The light at the end of the tunnel... maybe things will end well?
Okay, I totally forgot that for each event Backflip tends to set the Twilight Tower to some specific theme that may override breeding time rules for the sun and moon dragons. I need a Moon dragon for my current card and didn't realize until just now that the Twilight Tower is set to "Dawn" (a "day" theme according to Backflip). So if you have a sun/moon requirement, make sure to check/set the Twilight Tower before you try to breed!

Yikes. Cyn. I’m sorry. You have me terrified now, Supposedly when someone on one of my other boards wrote backflip on how much the HATED This event they were told it was an “experiment”. Think they need to fire the new game director.
Didn’t mean to terrify you. In thinking about this event I thought what is the first thing support tells you to do when your game is crashing: CLEAR YOUR SOCIAL MENU. So then to make an event where it encourages players to clog their social menus could mean one of two things: the decision makers are total idiots or they’re destroying the game on purpose. I may have given them more credit than they deserve. I thought it was the latter and it may just be the former.

oh yeah, don't let us jaded old fools affect your fun.
its just one of those things. the game has to grow and change, and change inevitably draws comparison and... comment.

I don't really love this event either. And perhaps b/c I'm an experienced player? I love all the posts from new players that are really kicking it in this event! Kudos!!
But I completely missed out on breeding a Kaiju - and I had breeds going in all 3 spots plus 1/2 my breeds in the Rift (the other half I used for donation board breeds - I never manage to fill one of these). I had enough currency to get the pedestal, but not to get both and I always get the pedestal first (just b/c I hate the look of twin pedestals).
Similarly, I've had no luck with Oracle. Using all three spots plus 1/2 my Rift breeds. I've even upped my personal Rift breed limit to 5K (I used to stop at 2500). I'm just so frustrated b/c it feels that everything is pushing me to use up stored gems and stored E. And I don't really even have that much E to begin with - can't afford a new habitat.
I would really love a tweak to the odds that say "hey, she's been logging in and breeding multiple times a day, maybe we'll go ahead and let her breed one of the cool new dragons".
Or maybe the Koalas will do a tour through my park? Frolic in my Cave for a bit. Make a mess if they want. I'm happy to tidy up after them if I could just get at least one of the new ones!
For me what I'm finding worse than epic slots are these rift excusive ones. Even the easy ones like Kampos and Plumewing are being stubborn despite already have 2 copies of them and breeding together.....
This is probably bordering on a whine, but I can't help it!!! I needed a Rainbow and an apocalypse dragon on my last card and I breed them (but not before the card reset). Now, I'm hesitant to hatch them in case I need them for the next card! You know how it goes...if I leave them there, I won't need them, but if I hatch them, I'll need them. Sigh...

Finally I decided to boycott a card. I mean, I couldn't complete it. So I let it stay on.
Is it normal that it won't go away? I ended up buying it out, should I have waited?
There is a timer to each card, i think it is 3 days. When the time is up, a new one will come up, but ... I had to reload te game to make it appear. Only if you complete a card it brings a new one immediately.
So having had 2 practically identical impossible epic cards, I sat them out and my new card is - another impossible epic card - dream, rainbow, sun, moon, galaxy, apocalypse and wait for it.... dream dragon (replacing the rainbow, then double rainbow dragons of the 1st 2 cards).
I refuse to gem it out - I guess I’ll not be buying many dragons this event 😞

FYI if you place your Sumi Pedestal in the Storage Tower, the base changes from a Plant one to the Epic one. For those mindful on the display of pedestals, this is important. Haha..
I for one am someone who is really enjoying this event. It's allowing me to make much more than the 1,000 currency per day we would get from normal event. So far I've collected close to 30,000 magic, have 4/5 event dragons all while spending less than 100 gems and this is with moderate (maybe slightly good) luck. It's all about strategic breeding such as using the rift to get rid of those long breeds, maximizing double days, planning ahead, etc... Of course I'm someone who has pretty much everything there is to get, almost all dragons in Twin form too for reference.
Sorry but I found what you said is extremely difficult to believe. I have been breeding the event dragons in all 3 normal breeding caves since beginning, and so far only managed to get the 2 limited dragon, after 200-300 gems spent on speeding up. No sight of the 2 unlimited dragons yet. To say that getting 4/5 event dragons with barely any gem spent is "moderate", or even "slightly good" luck is, IMO, completely untrue. Also, I'm not sure how you can claim to "use the rift to get rid of those long breeds". In my rift cave, I breed after 5000 E. It would take a whole day (if I'm lucky) to even get a rare hybrid like bluefire or trench. So aside from the first 2 bingo boards, I haven't had any board that I completed without using some gems. I am having 2 impossible boards with galaxy/treasure/dream/olympics back to back now. It would take at least 2 days on average to get even one such dragon. I also have collected about 30k magic so far, but that's after burning around 1k gems. I fail to see how you achieve better results with only 100 gems spent. Sure, you might have better planning or strategy, but I don't think the results should be so drastically different than mine.
I don't hate this event that much, since the dragons a breedable, so at least put some good use of my 9k gems. The magics I collected so far should allow me to purchase all new things (minus the pedestals), so the event isn't that bad in this regard. However, it is for sure one of the more frustrating event. The constant stress of breed-fails, for dragons I already had so many (like bluefire/silver/any "old" dragons) is ridiculous. When you just want an simple iceberg dragon but got 7 ice dragon and one water in a row, it sucked all the fun out. And the limited dragon is waaaay too expensive, so if you are unlucky and can't breed it, you will be far far behind.

Unlucky player this whole event. I haven’t once bred an event dragon, went gems spending crazy at the beginning of the event, then decided to cut that out after reading the thread (and bless all of you wonderful people for being here. 😊) Because it didn’t do much good anyway. I was speeding up breeding and getting fail after fail after fail.
I’ll continue to play, but I’m just going to keep plodding on, trying to breed event dragons, raising my glass to all the koalas out there. Cheers to those getting the luck of the koala. May it grow and leap Park borders and spread to the DV universe and beyond.
I'm having a hard time deciding whether to continue to actively play this event or just give up on the boards. That being said, what would folks do? I need one more dragon to finish my current board. It would cost 42 gems to buy out the slot. Would you spend the gems to finish the board today (a doubles day) or continue to try and breed the missing dragon (a Mirror - I tried yesterday with no luck) and finish the board whenever it shows up or the board goes away?

When I'm saying moderate/slightly good I'm referring more to my magic count. I actually had 3/5 dragons when I made the post, but then got Totem and edited (Now I would consider it goodluck when it comes to breeding event dragons). But my magic count is nothing special, of course with horrible luck it's hard to achieve but I've gotten plenty of bad boards that I've made the most of through strategic breeding or worst case skipping if it's horrible. I don't know why you're doubting my total when it's not that impressive and many people I know have upwards of 50,000 as of right now. No offense but spending over 1K and only having 30,000 is pretty bad "strategic breeding" or you are having the worst luck of anyone in the game. You should re-evaluate your strategy or look at other totals out there before calling out someone like that.
PS. It also helps a hell of a lot when you have 2 of most dragons in rift form, odds go up greatly, more so than breeding sandboxes state IMO.
