This is a joke, right? I’m going to sign out of the game and when I sign back in there will be Plant dragons in the squares, correct?
O my word; trying , TRYING to breed a Rb 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 and hatch it in a day

Ok so your PSA was more succinct than mine, but seriously, didn't hafta post IMMEDIATELY after mine, just to rub it in, hey ? What's that about...(grumble, exeunt stage left, mumbling) 😈
Sorry, you know how it is. New game, learning curve, lotsa mistakes. And this old forum helps so much one simply wants to pay it back. I posted without reading.
And BTW, maybe that first time was a glitch - there was no reset today.
I LOVE that some of the new dragons are breedable although I haven't had any luck with it so far.
I HATE the new system of getting event currency. My second board is absolutely insane with 6 types of really rare dragons and the time it would take to achieve them is really frustrating. This seems like they want you to burn thru all your resources which I am not willing to do. Why not just "loan" the dragons or breed for ones you don't have. That would have been fun!
It's really ironic that it is unlimited currency yet I can't get any of it. 🤔
This seems like it was really only useful to people that have a ton of disposable resources that can throw etherium and gems to clear the boards.
I think the boards are an interesting idea, to make what are usually the throwaway fails into the dragon you want to get, and even a dreaded epic fail is "desirable", but the currency is too heavily dependent on the boards. They would be a good option if there were other, more reliable options too, like collecting cash from habitats and games. On the other hand, if it really isn't too impossible to breed the expensive limited dragons (as usual, I am having no success) the event might be okay.
Too hard to obtain currency with having to breed the dragons then are there. No idea how anyone would get it done without the Rift, and even there you don't get many breed attempts until you run into too high a cost.
Needed a Magnetic dragon for yesterday’s board. Breed after breed in the rift of Copper fails. Next board, I need a Copper dragon. Four Magnetics in a row. I swear the odds change according to what your board shows...
Last event I was blasé...now I'm positively disinterested. The first day, I just played without using the donation cards, as I wasn't enthusiastic about the idea, but I got very negligible amounts of event currency through breeding and finding a few of the wandering special characters who were possible to find in the entire solar system of islands I must comb through to find them. I'm still missing three of the obscenely expensive islands, too...pity the brilliant, dedicated players who have them all and have even more work scouring the place for the scuttling little people, amidst the sea of flapping wings and belched flame and exploding fountains and whatnot. My ability to watch advertisements for gems or event currency is also impeded at the moment, as for some reason, every time I choose the option, the same German Lottery advertisement appears and freezes the screen, so...that's, erm...amusing.
Anyhow, I digress... I don't like the donation cards; if they were optional, and not the best way to earn event currency, I'd be fine with them (and by that I mean I'd live and let live, ignoring them completely), but I've complained before that I miss when we were able to earn currency from regular aspects of playing the game--collecting from habitats, harvesting crops, etc. I also still don't really like the Rift, and I'm still missing ten habitats there, I think, and I don't often check it more than once per day, so the going is very slow in upgrading it, and this also means that I don't have great amounts of etherium to spend on breeding daily...So I'm using it all to fill about half a card per day (I've just been trying for the surface dragons in the breeding den and island in the Vale, after the first day, when I tried in the Rift for them as well). My issue is that while they've made the dragons breedable in theory, breeding odds seem to be so low lately (BEB was very unsuccessful for me--no target Rift dragons achieved, and no target pedestals achieved) that it's unlikely to be able to breed them, and if one spends one's etherium in trying for them, one then foregoes the event currency to be gained by caving to the only system that seems to be a viable means of earning during this event. I don't like that it feels very controlled and directed. Call me a rebel, but that's not my idea of fun.
In conclusion, gentle folk, I shall resort to terrifying levels of geekery to console myself, so if such geekery doth put at risk thine eyes, already wearied by the steady stream of w(h)ine from above, and wilt offend thy precious souls, prithee turn ye aside speedily and be ye relieved.

Unlike the previous airships (in either DV or DVW), it looks like once you donate the dragon, it is gone. It doesn't come back like they did with the airship. So make sure you don't donate something that you wanted. I couldn't find anyway to donate dragons that were already hatched. It looks like only dragons that are about to be hatched can be donated. I'm thinking this is another way to get folks to breed in the Rift because you get instant results!
My first set is also different: Ice, Miasma, Ruin, Storm, Plant, Earth, Fire, and Water. At this point, it doesn't look like any Epic dragons have shown up (maybe later in the event?). I did also notice that Epic dragons do not count towards the element requirements. I bred a Leap Year Dragon (all elements) and it could not be donated (or maybe this is just a quirk of the Rainbow dragons).
I haven't figured out if there is a limit to the amount of Magic that can be collected each day. I don't see the little progress bar below the counter.
Aside: I have to admit that I was a bit worried when I first read about the event that we would need to play DVW to fully maximize the event. Luckily it looks like the games remain disconnected (at this point).

Where can I read up on the "surface" lore I don't understand what it's suppose to be as a storyline. like why is there a class of "surface" dragons?
It's linking with Dragonvale World (DVW), which is dragons on ground-based islands they are now making some dragons interchangeable, just as they copied the airship idea into the Rift from DVW so there are now DVW based dragons (like Kaiju) breedable in DV, and now the bingo cards send DV dragons 'to the surface' ie DVW... except of course they don't 😆 We're just casting baby dragons to the winds 😫 Clear as mud?!

O Grand Nagus: salutations and genuflections oh mighty one from this lowly wine merchant! please herewith accept my application for the Ferengi Irregulars Rebel faction, battling against those who would despoil our Rules of Acquisition, may they be assaulted by Sulphur dragons! I shall also send my nephew second removed and my great granddaughter, both of whom have excellent undercover skills, to assist with spying, um gathering of necessary informational material. The runner awaits your reply, at the door of your august establishment.

On the plus side, I think I managed to breed a Kaiju.
Maybe that is the deal with this event... Use the rift to try and play dragon bingo Try and breed the new dragons in the other locations or mooch of others in the coop cave
Ideally try and only have to buy the new habitat and the Apocalypse theme.
Oracle & Totem state ‘This can only be acquired in the Surface Egg of Mystery’ - are we confident they will be be available to purchase/ breed once Kaiju’s timer has expired?
By using most of my Etherium and gems in one of my ‘little parks’ I bought a rather expensive Surface Egg of Mystery and got an Eve 🙄 - not impressed!
I won’t be purchasing any more, unless of course I’m forced to if Oracle & Totem don’t become breedable!
Main Park - playing since July 2012 Friend ID: Noodles#4656

How are people earning magic?? I’m lucky if I can get 1000 a day, and I’m locating all of the people, watching Tolzar (when it doesn’t crash) as often as possible, and breeding in the Rift for my Bingo Card till I run out of Etherium. Not thrilled so far with this event.
GCID- peanutzmom:) And yes, you need to include the smiley face
I give gems randomly to those who seem to need them because I'm not organized enough to keep a list, but I'm always looking for more Party Hat friends!

POTM, hahaha. And we'd be pleased to do business with you. I'll have my assistants write up the contract. It'll be long just because of the legal mumbo jumbo; don't give yourself a headache reading the whole thing, by any means. It's not like I'd try to get you to inadvertently sign your skilled relatives over to me as indentured servants, or anything. Onward!

May I nominate this whole conversation as POTM? So far, the only fun thing about this event is this exchange. Hope I change my mind by the end by the end of the event.

I'm confused (what's new) why is Kaiju sooooo expensive? Eve earns more and is waaaay cheaper (I am defiantly mathematically challenged) and they're both surface dragons... And that's just one comparison (cos I'm struggling to care about this event) ..?.
