I'm confused (what's new) why is Kaiju sooooo expensive? Eve earns more and is waaaay cheaper (I am defiantly mathematically challenged) and they're both surface dragons... And that's just one comparison (cos I'm struggling to care about this event) ..?.
Eve and Sprite are permanent, so you don't have to buy them at all now - that's why they're cheap. The three limiteds will presumably be similarly expensive.
Visitors 4 x 50 (they only appear once for me) = 200 Visions 3 x 50 = 150
350 a day x 33 days = 11,550 magic?
*350 x 26 = 9100 magic
I counted from the wrong date.
Also does anyone think that the surface habitat will be available with dragoncash? there doesn't seem to be a limit on them.
Thanks
I don’t think it’s quite as bad as that. First of all, it seems likely that they’ll do doubles every other day - they’ve done it before, and they’ve already begun in that pattern. You also get 10 (on a regular day) per breeding started, and somewhere between 3-10 for hatching or selling. Regular hybrids are worth 3; today with doubles I’ve seen golden hybrids sell for 10 (Tempest) and 16 (Char), but I also saw a Hydra sell for 16, and I’ve seen higher-end epics (can’t remember which now) go for 20. My current theory is that the magic rate for golden hybrids/rares/epics is based on their selling price, but the bottom line is that it’s pretty low. (Also, it doesn’t seem to matter if you hatch or sell directly, but sometimes the magic value doesn’t float up with the exp and cash gained - you have to watch your total if you want to feel confident you got the magic.)
At any rate, that leaves us on a regular day with:
Visitors: 4x50 = 200 Visions: 3x50 = 150 Breedings, regular park: 6x10 = 60 (assuming an average of 2 per breeding spot per day) Breedings, rift: 14x10 = 140 (assuming you breed through 5000 - adjust as needed) Hatching/Selling: 20x3 = 60 (assuming the above 6+14 breedings at a minimum of 3 magic each)
TOTAL: 610 per regular day, roughly DOUBLES: 1220 per day, roughly
26 days at half regular and half doubles is 23,790.
There’s also the gift calendar (whatever they’re calling it this time). This is a bit of an assumption, but if they follow the pattern they did for the recent Egg Hunt [link], which was also 25 days long, gave a gem dragon on the 20th and an event dragon on the 25th day, and is so far following the same structure, then the total should be 4100 magic gifted.
THE BOTTOM LINE: This means approximately 28,000 in magic even if you never touch the cards.
Now, I think it makes sense to donate what you can if you happen to have it, especially when a single rift breed might get you two easy elements. But there’s a real argument to be made for throwing all your breeding attempts towards breeding the three limiteds, because if you manage to get one or two, you can probably buy the remainder. (Full disclosure: I don’t know for sure if I’ll be adopting this strategy myself, but I’m leaning towards it, because focusing on the cards makes it way too easy to blow through a ton of gems. Also, there’s something uniquely frustrating about having to spend half a dozen rift breedings trying to get a lousy Pepper that any other day would have constituted at least half your fails, only to give up in disgust anyway. 😡)
Sorry this post is so long - as my mom pointed out just before her head exploded, someone must have been on some serious drugs to come up with this event...

Almost forgot: To answer the question about Surface habitats, nobody knows for sure, of course, but for a while now, the trend has been for new habitats to cost gems rather than cash after the event. 😞
To add, flag bearers don't give any magic on regular days, but they give 20 magic each on double days! So that's an extra 200 magic if you have all 10 elders and can find all 10 flag bearers.
GCID: rionhow Thanks to ElektronX for my Light Rift avatar!
the kaiju dragon is particularly expensive because its so hard for the market to acquire them. you see, half the time, when one appears in the rift, a bunch of giant robots show up and destroy it...

...Oh, wow, you’re right! That’s awesome - thanks for the heads-up!
This would be an extra 2600 over the course of the event if you have them (and can find them ), which would put most people in the 30-31,000 range.

I still have 21 hours left on my SENTENCE. Accidentally bred a Gold in the Rift so cleared the Treasure box but only that box. This event feels like... Jury duty, jury duty, jury duty, black mail, pink slip, chain letter, eviction notice, jury duty.

I bred a kaiju and the Thursday that the update happened I snagged a surface for 75 gems. The event is not as horrible as the treasure one imho. You have the option of buying the epics not stupid gambling. It speculated that the other two epics will rotate in 8 days each. I’m only trying to do one card a day in the rift and all three caves are going for event dragons. All 5 dragons are out there for breeding with my friends. When I get a totem or Oracle I’ll let ya know. The only thing you HAVE to get is the chrysalis mystery eggs and only if you care if they are rifted. Maybe the apocalypse habitat but I’m sure it will be available for 250/500 gems afterwards. I know the surfaces will return for 75 gems. The rest of the dragons are breedable.
Ps much sympathies Cyn. That card is the worst one I’ve seen. Scary thing is my mystery egg habit could almost fill that one out. That’s how bad my social is

GCID chemnerd 99 (You need a space) TEAM Hidden Bolt
Looking for party hat friends. Pm me for Facebook Id.
Please excuse the long winded post (and if anything has already been mentioned), but this is my take on the event and what I’ve learned so far -
This event is a bit weird, but not terrible. Things are really expensive in the event market, but there’s a 10,000 daily magic limit - and you CAN get a decent amount of magic each day:
There’s 200 magic from the Tolzar vision thingy, and 150 magic from the walking visitors, free, daily. Then we get some magic for just breeding and hatching dragons (not sure how much).
And we can get like 500+ magic from each dragon bingo board - the drawback being you need to spend gems to speed breed and/or might need to skip one of the spaces (usually being around 50 gems to skip). I’ve done that when it asked for zaffer and Lacuna. No way am I wasting time/E3M trying to get those But I was pretty ticked about that - 50 gems is a lot to waste on not donating one single dragon.
So I think this event is really more geared for people who have: -lots of fails from speed breeding in their social menu -Lots of gems -Not many or any goals to breed in the rift and can spend a lot of E3M each day -Or are hackers/cheaters
The dragon bingo board might seem daunting at first, but really, you can use it to your benefit if you have a good strategy.
There’s 2 routes to go here - rift breeding or regular breeding. •with rift breeding, you want to go with the fewest amount of fails (least elements) and dragons that you have 2 of or they are at high levels. This is more beneficial to players who don’t have a lot of gems, patience, or rift goals at the moment, but do have/earn a lot of E3M. •with non-rift breeding, you still want to take the above into consideration, but also should see if you already have some “fails” twins in your social menu to use. This is for players who have more gems than E3M, haven’t unlocked the rift yet, or don’t have the required breeding combos to get the target dragons. The key for this strategy is you want to donate the dragons with the shortest incubation times, so you aren’t using up too many gems or can do more boards in the shortest amount of time (up to 5 a day, I believe, with increasing difficulty). Here is the list that I’ve come up with so far of dragons in each category that have the shortest incubation time :
You also want to donate dragons that cover multiple elements at the same time (such as Misfortune, Omen, Solarflare, dusk/dawn/equinox, Harvest Moon, Sunscorch, etc), especially when it covers a line - horizontally, vertically, or diagonally - to max out the magic earned from the bingo boards. And you wanna do as many boards as you can on double days.
But, If you hate the bingo board, you can skip it, just note that they do give out a fair amount of magic each day.
Anyways, that’s how I’ve earned 21,442 magic so far. But unfortunately I spent *a lot* of gems - more than I would have liked. How much magic has everyone else collected?
P.S. (+) The positives about this event though are: •10,000 daily limit (even though pretty hard to attain) •you could get all the event dragons from the mystery eggs or breeding •yay, finally an apocalypse island theme!!
(-) The cons: •the bingo board in general (gem spending, rare dragons required, time limits, etc) •why is the chrysalis mystery egg here? And for event currency?? Not cool, it shoulda been for E3M like the others •the habitat counts towards your limit, and only holds 2 dragons

I have not even seen a single epic slot on any board so far and I've earned over 15,000+ currency so far. Guess I've been lucky and using those double days well.
Anyways, that’s how I’ve earned 21,442 magic so far. But unfortunately I spent *a lot* of gems - more than I would have liked. How much magic has everyone else collected?
I have between 7500 and 8500 in each of 4 parks. Although I have both a healthy stash of gems and a well-developed rift, I have gemstone dragons I need to work on in the rift, and I don't want to spend hundreds and hundreds of gems to do well in this event. I enjoy splurging on a twins weekend which only comes 2-3 times a year, but burning through 500-1000 gems for every event (because I assume this is the wave of the future) will quickly get untenable.
As I see it, you can either focus on breeding the limiteds and hope you get lucky, or you can throw all your efforts and a ton of your resources behind the cards - there is no path that's both safe and inexpensive. They've been working their way towards this for a while now, gradually making success in the events less and less certain. I'm sure they'll continue to tinker with the format, but since they're collecting data on everything we do in these games, I don't want to throw my weight behind the option that says, "Sure, I'll spend whatever it takes to get the dragons - you haven't hit my limit yet!" 😳

O m g they gave me a new board when I had one more to go:( This new board has a double rainbow, Olympus, Dream, Blightwing..... I have yet to breed any new dragons, just wasting away gems and E. I’m 99% done with this game. I don’t have time to clock in every hour to collect E and magic. Events use to be fun back in the day, I dread them now.
You left off The cons: - Getting boards with so many Epics it is impossible to clear them essentially giving you a timeout for days which includes double days which then become worthless. (I had multiple boards with Epics and probably should not have used resources to complete them. I still have 7 hours left on my 3-day sentence. It will be interesting to see what my next board is.)
- Continuing bad luck breeding in the Rift totally takes the Rift out of the equation for clearing cards. Even focusing on just trying for the new dragons produces zero results even using level 20 dragons. (not being able to breed a desired dragon in the Rift for months is definitely a “fun” killer)
- Being allowed to try to breed the new dragons in the upgraded Cave and Island is great. In trying for Sprite having every. single. fail be a 17+ hour Hypnotic fail and never a 4 hour Wind or 6 hour Dandelion fail... not. so. great.
- Entire event is set up to deplete any resources you may have stockpiled I assume to get you to spend $ to replace them.
In other news... noticed a glitch: Two days in a row I found three of the wandering wizards and then the green sparkling border around my visitor counter disappeared indicating that I had found them all. Then found Noel wandering about after. It only seems to happen if you find Noel last.
So, in a word, N/A , market liberalization has come to DragonVale (along with a class structure). It's no longer a way of escaping the mean ol' world
More like making sure the masses never acquire enough resources to start feeling a little comfortable in life. Multinationals are no longer content to have that be the case in real life, they now are forcing that mindset on what is supposed to be escapist entertainment. (not just talking this game here)
