Only 5 gifts and 5 coals are needed for the 10 new dragons BUT I predict you will need it to reside with one of the old winter dragons while it’s snowing to evolve it.
Evolution is here to stay. It might be a programming way to decrease the size to extend old devices. Idk
PSA. You can buy two more ornamental habitats for gems now.

I want to be hopeful that this is true, but I'm still feeling a little mis-lead by the Halloween event. Backflip support said that the patch notes introducing the event deliberately left out some of the new dragons (all of the limited time ones and the Ghostlies). So I could still see where they could also be planning something with the Kringle and Krampus dragons, but omit that from the patch/event notes.

I don’t think we will be asked to evolve Krampus or Kringle dragons. Krampus represents the naughty side - naughty children receive a lump of coal from Krampus at Christmas, and Kringle represents the good side - good children receive gifts from Kris Kringle at Christmas, hence the whole Coal/Gift thing.
I saw a screenshot from someone who was able to open the evolution menu for Coal and Gift. They'll have 5 new evolutions, EACH. So you might want to get on breeding more of those ASAP, before Bring 'em Back starts.
That does seem to be confirmed by the splash screen. On the Krampus side you can see the Coal silhouette, and the Kringle side shows Gift. Next to each of those are 5 decorations (Decoration dragon evolutions I guess), so 5 evolution options for each of Coal and Gift.
Whatever. I've had four crashes today just getting started. My quest button gives "dragonquest_sugarplumdragon.showfilename" and the ads just freeze. Doesn't look like the show's ready to roll. In fact, more like I caught BFS with its pants down.

I got the same thing with "trepak dragon." Looks like there's a bit of a Nutcracker theme with the new (gift evolutions?) dragons (edit: I see symbols for both the trepak, nice beard!, and the sugarplum on the splash screen, as well as a gumdrop). Any guesses as to the names of the other dragons? I think Carol dragon at least, but I'm not sure if the naughty side dragon names will be as obvious.

Every time they do an update, they miss a few things. With this update, if you clicked on a coal or gift dragon it had an 'evolve' button, that showed you place holders for 5 new dragons each. They also broke the egg pedestal search function, which is a major issue in my opinion.
The immediately fixed the evolve button bug, and it went away within an hour or so. They tend to fix these quickly, sometimes we can get a new dragon from a mystery egg, or something is in a store that shouldn't be, etc. All usually corrected before most of us learn about it.
The pedestal bug? Still going.
The ghostly dragons are still available, except the ghostly cold, fire, and earth basic elements. These must be evolved by having the effigy of the frost, flame, and ground decorations in your park. Those are only available with a wish, or hopefully BeB if it starts soon. I don't know if you can clone the 3 dragons in co-op without having one already, as the other evolved dragons require 2 of the same parent. You can clone the other ghostly dragons though from friends.

I think it means players must be at least at Level 11 before they can collect/obtain those dragons.
