With the new month, comes a new installment of POTM. It works like this:
You find a post you like and you nominate it for Post of the Month. You do this by quoting the post and adding the comment "Post of the Month" or if you think you can't pull it off, simply "POTM". A Mod will move your POTM Reply to this thread. Conversely you can right click on the "Link to Post" at the bottom of each post and Copy Link Location. Then post in this thread with "Post of the Month" (or "POTM" if you think you can), right click in the thread and Paste. You cannot nominate your own post ... I mean c'mon ... that's just really lame ... no matter how cool/funny/clever/poignant you think you were. Each post can only be nominated once. The first person to do so gets the nod. On the 1st of next month (or thereabouts, I mean, we're all working folks here, well most of us) we'll make a Poll with all the nominated threads and everyone here will be invited to vote for their favorite thread. You'll have about a month to vote. So at the end of next month we'll have a winner, or more accurately, two, because the original poster AND the person who nominated them wins. What do you win? Gems of course. The mods will pay the winners.
So, to sum up. - Make good posts. - Nominate good posts. - Vote for posts. - Profit. - Have a laugh.
I have been struggling with whether or not to get involved with the Eff dragon thing at all. I had decided I wouldn't but then I was feeling left out so I purchased the fire effigy just to dip my toe in the Effing waters so to speak, but once you have one Eff you might as well go all the Effing way. Especially since you can't really do much with just one ghostly primary dragon. So now I have all 3 available Effs and their primary ghostly dragons and I am breeding for whichever ghostlies I can (only ghostly bone so far, with which I can do nothing). Considering the exorbitant cost in candies to purchase these ghostly dragons, breeding is the only reasonable option. However, these ethereal dragons belong to an ever increasing group found in the Vale as of late that I refer to as Unicorns. I am still trying for the aptly named chromacorn so I can evolve one and have been for the entire event. But that's not the only dragon as rare as a unicorn. There's a plethora of them and the interesting thing is any dragon, even one previously as plentiful as kangaroos in Australia, can become a unicorn.
I wanted to just let this Effing stuff go but apparently I am more of a completionist than I realized, so that's not a comfortable option for me. Maybe completionist isn't the right terminology for my playing style because I have noticed that for me it's more about the journey than the destination. I have tried to not get involved in certain things that displease me so I can continue playing and not be annoyed, such as this Eff dragon debacle, but it's just not a good solution for me. I do see the benefit in not getting caught up trying to breed every dragon and buy every available doodad but I need to believe I will eventually over time and without spending any real money (this is a relatively recent requirement since I was happy to spend before) and without depleting all my resources be able to acquire everything. Whether that actually happens or not is not as important as my believing it will. So for me I can't say I won't get involved in new stuff as it is introduced. I wanted to be that person who could do that, but I'm not. However, I think I've found a comfortable way to stay in the game and not be annoyed all the time. Fingers crossed it works long term. I can see the possible holes, like if BFS keeps making more unicorns than dragons.
POTM for a particularly amusing usage of Eff and its variations, lol.
I can't believe I've wasted all my opportunities to breed stuff in the rift and instead spent this entire event trying for a 2nd chromacorn using mirage and chromacorn. It's just astounding. I didn't even change up mirage for another dragon. I don't know why I made that choice. Tunnel vision, stubbornness, stupidity, tenacity, denial, magical thinking, a mistaken believe that sooner or later my lucks gotta change, stupidity, faith in the power of positive thinking, superstition (like if I change something now I'll miss out on my opportunity), insanity (using the definition that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results), stupidity. Pick one. I'm voting stupidity.
I’m voting POTM 😈
but, nah, Utterly Rifted Club Rulez heh heh heh 😈😈😈
[not part of the POTM, but I’ve done the same thing trying for a rift Portent]
This is all well and good until everyone swaps to Thanksgiving dragons... including the 36 new "Jellybean" variants of old dragons, transparent and green this time!
Jellybeans are a Thanksgiving thing, right? I really know nothing about the holiday except for the traditional shopping riots as it ends. 🤷♂️
Actually no, Arkynos , jellybeans are the Easter Bunny thing. So for Thanksgiving we should be getting the “Turkey” version of the dragons to go along with the “Turkey” version of the game they have already served up. 🦃
POTM nom !🍗 (1/2)
Ditto Chris... “served up.” 🦃. Is she sharp or what? (2/2)
I just got an osterix dragon from a mystery egg. On a scale from metal dragon to corrupticorn dragon, how jealous is steel bluminati? Show your work.
hahaha! POTM for sure! Congrats! I’ve been having great luck from mystery eggs over the past 2 weeks or so (twin rifts of lapis, dawnbringer, Okenite, garnet, jingle, and Totem), but I am still missing a rift Osteryx. I hope your mystery egg luck continues!
Arkynos , when you find time o great overworked Orang, could you add/link this super helpful post (above) of sophie’s to the Encyclopaedia please? The usual payment follows 😈 🍌🍌🍌
Sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how busy I am. The sound is mostly of phones ringing off the hook, though if you listen carefully you might hear a crackling from all of these irons I have in the fire. Hopefully you won't hear a SMASH from one of these plates that I have to keep spinning, or a POP from one of the balls I'm keeping in the air. The bananas are welcome... though people keep saying I have too much on my plate already. Bah, what do they know!
O m g for the limited Aubergine- evolve a level 18 berry dragon w any rift trait. The jelly plant must be in the park and 6 jelly plants must be ready to harvest. It must also be RAINING!
ARE THEY JOKING! I don’t own or want the weather station.
OMG, Backflip. Are you freakin' kidding me with these convoluted evolution requirements??!?
Just bred an extra Berry and was all "Yay! I like that Aubergine, he's cute! Lemme go check which deco and crops I need to transform him ... need to check on what's needed for Vidalia, too, since he's my other fav of this lot ... I'll be happy with this event if I get those two ..."
😡😡😡
While I am whining and complaining: I'm not even maxing out on spice everyday. If the game didn't take *ages* to load, I'd have no problem logging in evey few hours to collect. But I'm not going to sit here 6 times a day watching the app load bar creep towards completion. Gah.
So, now I apparently need a stupid ~traited~ Berry (ehh, not so bad) and a Weather Station (grrrr). And a Curlyleaf and a Bloatato in the same habitat. And various useless-after-the-event-so-therefore-a-waste-of-perfectly-good-spice deco and some crops. Just for the two measly dragons I want from this event.
Oh, quite. I'm not disputing that. There are several monetisation hooks in there as well. Some of the issues I mentioned either are those or are caused by those. The more interesting question is why, I think, and is something I've thought about a lot recently. Hopefully you don't mind me using your post as a catalyst for this, but I'd like to post some of some of my thoughts on potential reasons for the pushes for payment.
- Greed? I guess it could be? It seems overly simplistic though as an explanation. - Corporate pressure? Being owned by Hasbro now and all that entails, dealing with their troubles... Could be contributing, certainly. - DragonVale World's relative lack of success? A lot of money and resources may have been invested there, which are now less likely to turn a profit than expected. - The state of the mobile gaming market? A few titans are making billions, but the average mobile game is making less than when DV launched as people increasingly focus on these mega games. This, as well as saturation of the mobile gaming market, is making life harder for smaller teams. - DragonVale's age? Playerbases naturally get smaller over time, but the amount it costs to keep everyone paid if anything increases. With fewer customers, the amount on average each pays has to go up if you want to keep in business.
I think it's probably a combination of all of the above, and probably some more factors I've not thought of. Some of them I'm relatively sympathetic towards (which is why I do still make occasional purchases), but that doesn't make me any happier when the experiments to find a more profitable monetisation model encroaches on my enjoyment of the game as it has done several times in the year.
The worst bit is the loss of all those who it has driven away, however. I realise it is unlikely, but if any of them ever read this, know that we miss you all. May all your koalas be full of aloha wherever you may be.
Truly excellent summary Arkynos , Thankyou. New to me; the state of the mobile gaming market- I was unaware of those pressures in addition to the others you list. Potm for balance service to the forum community 🤗
Aw Jenny, it's Berry day apparently. I have been trying to breed a Berry in the rift since Aubergine became available with no success. I tried again this morning and had success and even got a second so that I can evolve one and keep one. I promptly bought the jelly roll planter...jelly roll plants are already to go, hit evolve and....poo, it's not raining. I only have the Twilight tower, so can't make it rain. Anyway, so now I sit and stalk rain. Stalking. I am reduced to stalking rain.
congrats Kiwichris and dp ⭐️🌟✨ , you both win POTM for November!! Please pm me for further details on your prize. Thanks all!
