AHOY DRAGON
Please rate the Ahoy dragon on a scale of 1 to 5. (1 = worst, 5 = best)
l. Rate Ahoy’s animation quality
5 - Lots of fun. Shout Out to the fan who designed it.
2. Please rate Ahoy’s size (you may want to check how Ahoy’s size compares to other dragons in your park; if you don’t own Ahoy, check a friend’s park)
5 - It’s pretty good. I mean I’m only comparing it to the dragons in the habitat, not the whole park, but I think it’s okay.
3. Rate Ahoy’s price (9,500 Doubloons)
5 - Reasonable value.
4. How well does Ahoy fit the theme of the event?
5 - Perfectly
5. Rate the attention to detail in Ahoy’s design
5 - very nice. Love the egg, also.
6. How much do you like Ahoy? (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!)
5
7. Add any additional comments or feedback (OPTIONAL)
Possibly my favourite of this event … so far.

Ahoy 1. 5 - I like how it transforms into the crows nest 2. 4 - big enough to see 3. 4 - suitable price 4. 5 - another good match for pirate theme 5. 4 - pretty good 6. 3 - brown is a little drab (although I guess needed for the wooden mast it embodies)
1. Animation = 5 it's a little silly, but SO clever
2. Size = 4.5 it's a little big, but okay,
3. Price = 5
4. Theme = 5 what could be better?
5. Design = 5 star creativity
6. How much do you like Ahoy? 5 not my favorite, but completely likeable
7. Comments: I like the more fluid, elegant or delicately detailed ones better (yay Lazuli! also Spectrapod) but this kind of cleverness really keeps the game fun

1. Animation - 5 2. Size - 3 (I like big dragons, but the huge size doesn't really fit Ahoy's theme) 3. Price - 4 4. Theme - 5 5. Attention to detail - 5 6. How much I like it - 4 7. Ahoy is kind of an awkward name. I'm not sure what'd be better than Lookout though.
3.5/5, I quite enjoy watching this dragon in his habitat, but the fact that he bounces on his straight tail just aggravates me. The hell is he doing? When he's perched and being a lookout I adore him tho. And while there is 100% improvement in the legs of decas dragons, he still walks a bit akward. Stiff, but not as stiff as something like lightmatter.
2. Please rate Ahoy’s size (you may want to check how Ahoy’s size compares to other dragons in your park; if you don’t own Ahoy, check a friend’s park)
5/5 Dragonvale needs big dragons. This is coming from a player from 2012, and many of your designs suffer from being far too complex and far too small. Large is good. Large is nice.
3. Rate Ahoy’s price (9,500 Doubloons)
Reasonable price 5/5
4. How well does Ahoy fit the theme of the event?
5/5 It's a pirate, the event is pirates.
5. Rate the attention to detail in Ahoy’s design
5/5 Overdetailed dragons in dragonvale look bad. This man is interesting to look at, and doesn't cross that line. Nice!
6. How much do you like Ahoy? (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!)
5, for a deca dragon it's a solid addition to the roster. I love the extra effort y'all have been putting into dragons to make them make the dragonvale style more.
7. Add any additional comments or feedback (OPTIONAL) Keep making dragonvale style dragons please, last event started out so strong but then the monstrosity that is binky came out.

It's me! I am Discord player DragonLover, here to participate in these "Rate a Dragon" threads! I figured I would start with my current favorite dragon in the event: Ahoy! Or Lookout, as I like to think of it as.
As a note: I am very passionate about both DragonVale's dragon designs and DragonVale itself, so I have a lot to say about all of the dragons. Text wall alert in advance, I suppose.
Here we go!
1. Rate Ahoy’s animation quality:5/5
Yes!!! A dragon whose animations give off so much personality!!! The Ahoy dragon's biggest quirk is its long tail that it uses as a way to scout the area, and I'm very pleased to see Deca Games acknowledge this in multiple animations! The fact that each animation regarding its tail is slightly different adds charm to the dragon. Not every tail stand is perfectly stable, and not only does that establish that the impressive Ahoy dragon isn't always as majestic as it seems, but it also adds a bit of realism to the dragon's behavior. You can't be perfect all of the time, after all.
In addition, I believe the other animations the dragon has are handled quite well. I can tell that the animation team is getting better with dragons that share Ahoy's body type. My only nitpick is its flying animations. I think there's some room for improvement in that field, since it occasionally looks like Ahoy is suspended in the air in unnatural ways, almost as if it were levitating.
2. Please rate Ahoy’s size:4/5
I bet if I had a dollar for every time someone has begged Deca Games to make their dragons bigger, I could probably buy the rights to DragonVale! While I am pleased to see the team finally start addressing these concerns, I have to agree with what other people have been saying: the Ahoy dragon is a bit too big. I personally own one myself, and its massive size--while impressive--makes it look a little awkward when living alongside my other dragons. While it does make sense for a ship mast themed dragon to be large like an actual ship mast, I think the team should've dialed back just a pinch.
3. Rate Ahoy’s price (9,500 Doubloons): 3/5
Throughout the years, the prices of new event dragons and items have gradually increased. Who could've guessed that the Vale followed the principle of economic inflation? For me, my opinion is a bit mixed. I think 9,500 doubloons is a bit too much for a rare-class dragon like Ahoy, but because it is new, I am willing to partially cut it some slack. I do believe that new things should be allowed to be slightly more expensive than old things. That being said, should this dragon return in a future event, I would suggest bringing down its price a bit. I also recommend making the price for new rare-class dragons a bit lower in general. With the current standard, new rare-class dragons cost as much--if not more--than returning Epic-class dragons! Yikes!!!
4. How well does Ahoy fit the theme of the event?:5/5
The Ahoy dragon is supposed to resemble the crow's nest of a pirate ship in addition to somewhat resembling a typical pirate crewmate, both of which it does incredibly well. It doesn't get much more pirate-y than that!
5. Rate the attention to detail in Ahoy’s design:5/5
As previously mentioned, the Ahoy dragon perfectly captures the ship mast theme! The wood-like texture on its scales really makes it pop, yet it isn't too excessive to the point where certain bits of the dragon are lost due to the game making things blurry; that being said, if the team could investigate this issue, it would really make a huge difference.
Furthermore, while not everyone cares for having clothing accessories on dragons, I personally believe that as long as it's done correctly, it can actually nail down a dragon's theme really well. For the Ahoy dragon, I am quite pleased as to how the bandana and flag were handled. By looking closely, I noticed how these accessories aren't really add-ons, but rather just the dragon's fur(?) on its head and neck producing the illusion of there being clothes. Subtlety goes a long way. Overall, I would say the Ahoy dragon is what the hip and cool kids call good character design.
6. How much do you like Ahoy?:5/5
At the time of me typing this, the Ahoy dragon is my favorite dragon from the Pirates in Paradise event. I remember when the Ahoy Community Contest first began, and out of all of the entries that weren't my own, Lookout was unquestionably my favorite entry alongside the Mermaid dragon entry. Needless to say, when the Pirates in Paradise loading screen debuted, I was one of many others who were ecstatic to see the Ahoy dragon in the game. It fits the theme of the event perfectly, it's a solid design, and it's really exciting to see a fanmade creation be turned into an official one. Overall, I love it.
7. Additional comments and feedback
When Deca Games first announced the Ahoy Community Contest, I was quite stoked to see the team explicitly state that "one or more" of the winning designs would become real dragons in the game. Even though my own entry did not make it in, the fact that I was able to bear witness to the rare phenomenon of two fan designs getting in the game at once is incredible. Fan dragons becoming official is extraordinarily rare in DragonVale's history, so it's nice to see Deca Games expand on the tiny list of dragons with this special honor.
Additionally, I am pleasantly surprised to see that the Ahoy dragon is a near one-to-one adaptation of the original Lookout dragon design. After the fanmade Dripstone dragon was added as the Gatren dragon, I wasn't sure how faithful to the original the design team would be. Nice to know for future reference that Deca Games can go both ways, and I do hope that this tradition of using fan designs continues in the future.
Whew, okay, so that was a lot, I know. I just have so much to say, and I want to make sure my feedback is impactful! It's very cool to see these Rate a Dragon forum threads exist, and I'm happy to share my thoughts here! I know I have lots to say about the other event dragons, so stay tuned!
P.S: You're welcome for providing that side-by-side image.

1. Animation: 4 2. Size: 3 3. Price: 5 4. Theme: 5 5. Design details: 5 6. How much do you like Ahoy?: 5 7. Comments/feedback: another really great design
dragon list (last dragon : Gatren) DV friend id: Crumble#7733 friend link coop friends always welcome, but all my gems are spoken for
l. Animation 5 2. Size 5 3. Price 5 4. Theme 5 5. Details 5 6. Like Ahoy? 5 7. What a cute animation (very smooth), but most of it gets lost out of the top of the frame when I'm looking at the dragon's card. Size is spot on or the nice detail would get lost. I can't think of a better pirate-themed dragon than Ahoy!
Ahoy Please rate on a scale of 1 to 5. 1 = worst, 5 = best. 1. 5 (animation quality) 2. 5 Only for the biggest sized ship though! (size) 3. 4 (price) 4. 5 (fit with event theme) 5. 5 Those wood carvings on body and wings, stunning. (attention to detail design) 6. 4 (how much do you like) 7. / (opt. additional feedback)
(Animation is well done, especially the folding of the wings.)
2.) Size: 2
(Size is large, especially at higher levels. If this dragon is meant to be a companion to wizards on ships, shouldn't it be scaled properly? I don't like overly small dragons, but this one is bigger than most.)
3.) Price: 5
(With as many days there is the event takes, its a good price.)
4.) Theme Representation: 5
(It is a crow's nest dragon on a pirate themed event. The dragon fits the theme.)
5.) Attention to Detail: 3
(While the animation is good and the concept behind it's look are cool, I feel the dragon is overall a bit TOO detailed. I play on low resolution mode, and it's texturing just make it look like a blurry brown thing.)
6.) Likeability: 4
(I like the dragon, its got just enough quirkiness to feel like a dragonvale dragon. I just think some tweaking would be required to design and size to make it a 5 for me.)
7.) Overall, this Isn't a bad dragon. I just had a few minor critiques.
5/5 The pogo stick jumping is amusing, and I like how the Ahoy sways from his stilted perch. The animation is similar to what I imagined it would look like from the drawing.
2. Ahoy’s size
3/5 I don’t really understand why he’s so gigantic.
3. Ahoy’s price (9,500 Doubloons)
5/5
4. How well does Ahoy fit the theme of the event?
5/5 Are you kidding me? Could not be a better fit!
5. Design detail
5/5
6. How much do you like Ahoy?
5/5
7. Add any additional comments or feedback (OPTIONAL)
I prefer the sanded wood look from Acoustic Eel’s original Lookout Dragon over the splintery approach of the carved Ahoy Dragon. I also miss the spyglass and loved the Lookout’s egg. But overall, the interpretation was extremely well done.
