I really liked Trove’s nose-dive on the splash screen. It’s a missed opportunity to not include that in his animation.

Two posts from me in one day? Yup, I'm still gliding through these Rate a Dragon threads. Gotta meet the deadline!
Here we go!
1. Rate Trove's animation quality:4/5
Oh how I love dragons with quirky animations, and the Trove dragon comes with plenty of them. All of its animations are fantastic showcases of its greedy and stealthy personality. Almost everyone has brought up the buried treasure animation, and I love how the dragon's belly expands as it eats the gold coins in the chest. It's a nice touch! I'm also a huge fan of the one animation where the dragon stops in the air, sniffs a bit, and then swoops down. It truly brings out the scavenger side of the Trove dragon that makes it special. Overall, I'm very impressed, and these animations are a step in the right direction after what the Lazuli dragon had--or rather, what it didn't have.
So why the 4 out of 5? Well... it may seem a bit nitpicky, but there's a few animation errors in some of the Trove dragon's animations. A few members have pointed out how the dragon's stomach sometimes glitches out of existence before popping back in again. While this isn't a glaring issue, it's still noticeable, and thus I have to make note of it in my rating process. Additionally, the animation where the Trove dragon slowly walks forward, turns around, and then turns back again is also not as smooth as it could be. Both turns are done too quickly, making the dragon seem rather flat. I understand that DragonVale is a 2D game, and that the dragons are animated by using animated puppets, so there are of course limitations regarding what can be done. However, I think maybe if these turns were animated a bit slower, the Trove dragon would seem less like a Paper Mario character. Always be sure to review your dragons before you release them so you can check for errors and assess things like what I've mentioned.
2. Rate Trove's Rift trait placement and appearance:5/5
There are a few different ways that the Trove dragon's Rift trait could've been handled, but out of all of them, I think the version we got is the best. All of the beige parts on the dragon's body are given the Rift treatment, making for a consistent overall placement. Nothing gets lost in the design, something that makes me happy. It's never fun to have a dragon whose design is ruined by a poorly placed Rift trait, so it's nice that the Trove dragon doesn't suffer from this. Additionally, because of how the Rift trait shows, the Trove dragon actually looks good in any trait! That's an awesome achievement for a dragon to have under its belt. Very nice work here.
3. Please rate Trove's size:5/5
The Trove dragon is a sneaky stowaway dragon, and for such a case like that, it helps to be small so as to not be discovered. Additionally, rats in real life are not terribly large, generally able to be fit in your hand. The size of this dragon is perfect, both in terms of logic and general appeal. I wouldn't make it any bigger or smaller than it currently is.
4. Rate Trove's price (13,500 Doubloons):3/5
The prices keep rising like the sea at high tide. Another Epic-class dragon, the Trove dragon is particularly hungry for doubloons. Breeding for this dragon is quite tricky, as it requires the Misfortune and Electrum dragons. The Misfortune dragon in particular is quite a challenge to breed, therefore making the Trove dragon elusive for those who don't have the required parents. This combined with the fairly high price tag on this smelly beast means that players who are unlucky may be forced to pay a hefty sum if they want their hands on this dragon. This is especially problematic for players who may have purchased the previous limited dragon: the Lazuli dragon, which was also a pain for many players to obtain. I think the Trove dragon's price could've been lowered a bit to accommodate for all of these little things.
5. How well does Trove fit the theme of the event?:5/5
A lot of people have already brought up how the Trove dragon is the dreaded stowaway, and even its in-game description mentions this. While that alone already makes it fit the event theme nicely, I would also like to point out its appearance and personality. Pirates in media tend to be depicted to be dirty, greedy, and often pretty unsophisticated in mannerisms. The Trove dragon checks all of these boxes, which makes it a very wonderful--albeit unwelcome--addition to any pirate crew in the Vale. Very well done, Deca Games!
6. Rate the attention to detail in Trove's design:5/5
Dragons that have features based on common real world animals tend to get mixed reception, and for good reason. Too few animal features, and a dragon doesn't make much of an impact. Too many, on the other hand, can land a dragon in the dreaded "just an animal" group. Luckily for the Trove dragon, there's a perfect balance between dragon and rat features! I can easily tell that this dragon takes inspiration from a generic rat, but it's not in-your-face about it! It's still very distinctly dragon-like, and I like how the rat parts of the design are amplified by the fact that the Trove dragon is, well, meant to be a dragon. I also like the way that its body is structured. It looks like it's constantly sneaking around, and it's even hunched over with its claws together, almost like it's plotting something--which I'm sure it is, given the ending of its in-game description. Overall, the Trove dragon fits perfectly in the Vale, even if its residents would probably prefer it not to.
7. How much do you like Trove?:5/5
In my opinion, there are two types of ugly character designs: those that are simply unappealing, and those that are intentionally ugly in a charming way. To me, the Trove dragon fits the latter group. It's not meant to be pretty or attractive, and I can appreciate that. The entire theming of the dragon is that it is a nasty stowaway waiting to pounce and take advantage of unsuspecting treasure hunters. I think the design team captured this perfectly with the Trove dragon. The visual design, the animations, the very concept... perfection. While it's definitely not nearly close to being a top favorite of mine, I can say with confidence that the Trove dragon is a great dragon.
8. Additional comments and feedback
It's always exciting when the official DragonVale Facebook page shares concept art for newly released dragons, and the Trove dragon in particular was especially thrilling to see its concept designs for. Sure, the dragons that simply showcase alternate color palettes are nice, but the Trove dragon's concept art collection has multiple designs that are all completely different! How generous of you to share them! Getting a glimpse in the world of Deca Games' production team like that is such a treat! Personally, I like the design that we ended up with out of all the ones that were shown.
Hm, that was pretty easy. Maybe there is hope for me to be able to rate all of the dragons in time after all!
1. Animation. 5 2. Rift trait. 4 3. Size. 4 4. Price. 3. Again pricey 5. Theme 4 6. Detail. 4 7. I like this dragon but not as much as others. 4
