6. How much do you like Aperture? Rating: 5
7. Comments/feedback for Deca (optional)
Nice nod to the Portal games.
Aperture doesn’t fit the camping theme or match the look of a golden hybrid. It appears much more like a limited Rift exclusive or a limited dragon for a Star Fall event. I love Aperture’s marshmallow toasting mastery on the event load screen. But there’s no indication of him being a s’mores connoisseur or a ghost from a spooky campfire tale in his description. Aperture is lovely, but in the wrong event.

7. Comments/feedback for Deca (optional) Great dragon, but golden hybrids should not be part of event. Please release them as normal so we can breed them in the rift like other golden hybrids.
Please rate on a scale of 1 to 5. 1 = worst, 5 = best. 1. 5 Love the portals. I have mine as a baby, so it just displays the rings moving over it’s body, but love those! (animation quality) 2. 3.5 As a baby it is extremely small, so I guess it will also be too small as adult. (size) 3. 4 (price) 4. 1 (fit with event theme) 5. 5 (attention to detail design) 6. 5 (how much do you like) 7. Very pretty, elegant dragon. I love it. One of my favorites so far. Hello fellow campers! I know it’s a bit late in the event, but I decided to pitch a tent here on the forums for a while so I could work on Rate a Dragon! I had a lot of fun doing this for the Pirates in Paradise event, so I want to make this a sort of tradition for myself. After all, I am very passionate about DragonVale, and I am also very opinionated. I’m sure anyone who read my essays from PiP could tell you that I have a lot to say.
That being said, I may not be quite as wordy with my ratings for this event. I got caught up with a lot of things in real life, such as college and attempts to be re-socialized... but that's a lot of personal stuff! Anyway, I just thought I'd let everyone know. I got a whole lot of dragons and not a whole lot of time left to rate them.
So… let’s get started!
1. Rate Aperture’s animation quality:5/5
The first dragon on my list of dragons to rate, and we’re starting off on a good note! I don’t see any major flaws in the animations for the Aperture dragon. The body moves about how I would expect it to in terms of both body structure and the general animation style of DragonVale. I especially like how the tail swishes around. Of course, the rings that occasionally form around the body are also a nice aesthetic touch from the original Portal dragon fan design. It’s the little things.
However, I do have one minor criticism. The portals that the Aperture dragon summons and travels through are not quite as nice looking as they could be. The still-image portals look a bit tacky when compared to the Aperture dragon itself. While animating them would be tricky, I think they would’ve benefited from some movement. Alternatively, if making them move and swirl around wasn’t an option, then perhaps another design would have suited them better. As said before, it’s the little things.
2. Rate Aperture’s size:5/5
No complaints here! The Aperture dragon is about the same size as most of the other hybrid dragons, and though you can't quite make out all the fine details from a distance, the basic structure of the dragon is completely visible. I can tell it's an Aperture dragon.
3. Rate Aperture’s price (10,000 Pinecones):1/5
Hmm… I don’t particularly like this. The Aperture dragon is a permanent dragon that will be available forever shortly after the event concludes. It’s not a difficult dragon to obtain through breeding either, as it is a standard “golden hybrid” dragon. I know it’s a new dragon, but this price tag is far too much for the type of dragon Aperture is.
4. How well does Aperture fit the theme of the event?:3/5
When this dragon first released, I wasn't really sure how it related to camping at all. However, after giving it some thought, I figured that the Aperture dragon fit the concept of a strange, mythical creature that definitely exists and isn't just some ghost story the camp counselor told everyone to keep them in line. That being said, once the limited event dragons starting rolling out with the theme of camp activities, I looked back at the Aperture dragon with a tilted eyebrow. I guess this dragon is in a strange limbo of fitting the theme and not really fitting the theme at the same time.
5. Rate the attention to detail in Aperture's design:5/5
Whenever a new dragon is released, I like to try to take a moment to read their descriptions. I know that they usually have a lot of work put into them to either tell a funny story, open up new lore potential, or simply describe how the dragon behaves. After reading the Aperture dragon's description, I pictured it as a sort of magical water spirit dragon, and its visual appearance... fits this completely! The body structure, the mystical-looking swirls and appendages, the colors... they're great! I also like how the description brings up the Rigel and Atramento dragons due to their connection with portals! The callbacks are nice.
The Aperture dragon's design is also quite faithful to the original Portal dragon design, yet it also takes the fan design to a whole new level. I honestly really like the direction that Deca Games went with it. I know a lot of people like the more simplistic design of the Portal dragon, but I actually think the additional details on the Aperture dragon make it look really pretty!
6. How much do you like Aperture?:5/5
When the Aperture dragon was accidentally released a few hours early, I actually didn't really care for it that much. It could just be because the hastily taken screenshots of the dragon weren't the best quality, or perhaps it was my inner frustration from the slew of bugs that were occurring at the same time. Either way, I wasn't too fond of it at first. However, over time, I grew to appreciate it more, and now I can say that it's definitely a really nice dragon. It's also another fan design made official, and so quickly after the previous two--Ahoy and Ikatako--came out! I thought that it would be months before we'd see another fan dragon! It's a pleasant surprise, and once again, the design team did great, as did the original artist for the Portal dragon. Congratulations to them again!
7. Additional feedback and comments
The Aperture and Burrow dragons are Deca Games' first two "golden hybrid" dragons, and it's fantastic that they're picking up where Backflip Studios left off! I'm also grateful that the team didn't pull another Bramble dragon situation with the egg designs (seriously, can't Deca Games make one exception to their "no altering BFS dragons" rule and change Bramble's egg???). This gives me hope that one day, all of the elemental combos will be completed, even if it means I have to spend an eternity moving my pedestals.
Alright, so I didn't exactly make a full-blown essay. However, I'm going to have to keep things shorter than usual for this event so I can have time to rate every dragon. I want those awards!!!

APERTURE DRAGON
1. Animation: 5/5
2. Size (if you don’t own Aperture, please check a friend’s park): 5/5
3. Price (10,000 Pinecones): 5/5
4. How well does Aperture fit the theme?: 2/5 It doesn’t fit the theme. I don’t see this as a ghost dragon or a marshmallow.
5. Design details: 5/5
6. How much do you like Aperture?: 5/5
7. Comments/feedback for Deca (optional): I really love Hourglass Dolphin’s animated Portal. DECA didn’t have to do much, Aperture looks very similar. It’s a great design, but I think it would have been better as a limited dragon for an event with Galaxy dragons.
