I am totally into science fiction/ fantasy, both reading and tv/ movies. I started reading sci-fi/ fantasy with Authors like Andre Norton and Anne McCaffery before I was a teenager and have co tuned to read sci-fi to this day. I have a huge tbr pile, but the next ones on my list are some by Anne bishop.
I loved avatar, and I am intending to see hunger games.
In terms of tv series, I love things like Farscape, Buffy, doctor who, and I just finished watching torchwood miracle day. I am currently watching game of thrones. I haven't read the books yet, but decided to watch the series first, then read the books.

I love sci-fic and fantasy books, but to be honest I don't know the authors you mention! Maybe they are not so popular in spanish speaking countries, but I'm gonna check them out. My favs are Tolkien, Ursula K. Leguin and Raymond E. Feist in fantasy and Isaac Asimov, Jules Verne, Stanislaw Lem and Arthur C. Clarke in sci-fic.

Andre norton and Anne McCaffery are more aimed at the young adult market, but andre norton in particular was my introduction to sci-fi in the 60s, and was the first female author to win all the major scifi literary awards. Anne McCaffery was the first author I read who wrote extensively about dragons
I have around 1500 dead tree sci-fi novels in my library, but I have switched almost exclusively to ebooks, and have found a whole raft of new authors. Does anyone here use librarything to catalogue their books?

I've read all her work! I love that one too because like you I love Greek mythology (classical studies and ancient history were one of my majors at Uni)

Try the book depository website - it's a UK based company and they are so cheap it's not funny and they don't charge for postage! Even shipping them here to me in Australia there's no way I could get books cheaper! I swear by them!!! Look it up! They ship to anywhere!

I agree. Book Depository is AWESOME and they also ship to me in the US for free and are pretty quick too...usually as fast if not faster for me than ordering from a US store. If I remember right it's free worldwide shipping.

I think I still have most of Anne McCaffreys books. I'm a bit of a book hoarder just got rid of about 600. It hurt. But I'll have nearly as many again. Just recently read some of Sara Douglas, read Brent Weeks, Kirsten Britain, Brandon Sanderson, robin hobb and jean m Auel. To name a few.
I also read things like Kathey Reichs and Patricia Cornwell
Ewwwww, ewwwww, ewwwww!! That movie so totally freaked me out! And I am not the freaking out sort - for the record! So, if by "your favorite movie", you mean, ewwwww, ewwwww, ewwwwww! Then, sign me up.
Otherwise, let's go with . . . "The Sound of Music" . . . or . . . "The Wizard of Oz" . . . or . . . ""Casablanca" . . . or . . . "Aladdin"(I know it seems an odd choice, but I can sing every song by heart and it's my children's all time fav!).
So, I keep showing my age here . . .
I will cry again in Beauty and the Beast. All time favorite Disney movie!
love Disney movies and Pixar too I couldn't pick a favourite as they are all fab but I did love all dogs go to heaven when I was younger and would still cry if I seen it now ..........and Bucky my eeeewww ewwww ewwww movies are saw 1-5 and final destination eww ewwwww eeewwwwww lmao x x x x vicky

Sounds intrigueing! Will have to find a copy. Whats everyone favourite movie of all time and why?
Mine would have to be Labrinthe starring Jennifer Connolly. I love its fantastical element and that even though its quite an old movie, i still find things i havent seen before!! Love love love
Love that movie...
Labyrinth is one of my all time favorites too!
In fact, there's a bit of a funny story about how I came to watch it the first time: When I was in late primary school (so about age 11 or 12 or so) I spent many weekends staying over with a good friend, Karen, at her Dad's place. On these weekends we'd also quite often go to the video store to pick a movie and the worker's there kept recommending Labyrinth. Now Karen and I took a look at the case and scoffed - it looked much too much like a 'kids' movie for out 'mature tastes' so we never rented it.
Time passed and I was home from school, sick. My Mum came home with a video as a surprise and guess what it was? Of course, Labyrinth. I groaned internally but decided I was bored and sick enough to give it a try anyway...and instantly fell in love.
Now, as an adult it remains a favourite (ah, my silly younger self deeming it too immature!) and I still enjoy the deeper layers of humour and innuendo as well as the more obvious, magical adventure.
One of my favourite quotes from the movie is: "I ask for so little; just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave." - Jareth

I am also waiting patiently for True Blood...can't wait!
Really enjoyed Season 1 of this. Struggled with Season 2 (what they hell was going on?!) Could not finish Season 3. My wife assures me the books are much better and I might look for an audiobook version of the series when I've finished the Game of Thrones ... Quintology?
True blood watched it to season 4 or 5 not sure now, but it seemed to be the final in Australia, admittedly we did get it all from a friend so please if there is more I would love to know
Mjtyler: A mistake is just another way of doing something
Man, I feel outclassed...mainly I watch old Bugs Bunny cartoons & nature/cultural documentaries...right now watching Taboo on Netflix each night till I get through the series. I'm supposed to finally have a 'free' day on Saturday & I hope so as I have 400-600 minutes worth of new Looney Tunes Dvd's I want to watch, been collecting the Spotlight Collection set of DVD's.
Veebabe
LOVE old Looney Toons! What's up doc? Lol
Yeah, nothing like the old looney tunes cartoons, they were the best!

Woooohooo, DOCTOR WHO!!!!!
Sorry, just had to!
Um, yeah, as you may be able to tell I am a HUGE Doctor Who fan! I've only watched the newer series (from Doctor#9/Chris Eccleston) but I'm kinda obsessed with it at the moment.
As is probably already obviously from my signature and message under my avatar, Doctor 10/David Tennant is my favourite. dang but I love that man! (Seriously, I could watch the gif in my signature all day *drool*, heh) I cried and cried when he regenerated into Doctor 11 (in fact that series has just been repeated here and I spent the whole episode fighting back the tears as I knew it was coming!) but I do like 11/Matt Smith too.
I was not really a sci-fi girl growing up (whilst I enjoyed both Star Wars and Star Trek, I wasnt a huge fan) but I got into Red Dwarf (a British comedic sci-fi TV show - and they are making a new series ;D ) through my boyfriend when I was 18 and have gotten more into other sci-fi as time has passed.
I know I'd like Buffy if I could watch it again now but I only saw bits and pieces when it was actually first aired. Torchwood is fantastic (how could it not be when it's a Doctor Who spin off ?! ) but unfortunately I missed lots of the first episodes and haven't caught anything since 'Children of the Earth'/the series was UK made.
I've read some 'pure' sci-fi (Asimov) and enjoyed it but I'd say my tastes generally run more into the YA (young adult) supernatural/dystopian now. I'll probably say more on my book tastes in a separate post though, heh.
For now I'll leave you with - DOCTOR WHO!! ;D

MOVIES Labyrinth (as previously mentioned) The Princess Bride Empire Records Moulin Rouge (Baz Luhrman's) Romeo and Juliet The Wedding Singer Kevin Smith movies (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma...) Pirates of the Caribbean Lord of the Rings Harry Potter Twilight Saga The Hunger Games
I don't get out to see many movies anymore so the more recent ones are usually book series adaptions (Twilight and Hunger Games etc)
BOOKS The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger P.S I love you by Cecelia Ahern Divergent by Veronica Roth One Hundred Percent Lunar Boy by Stephen Tunney The Maze Runner series by James Dashner The Earth's Children series by Jean M. Auel (though I was very disappointed with the last novel: The Land of The Painted Caves) The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer (also loved The Host and v.excited it's being turned into a movie too!) The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
I also have many 'chick-lit' books - the 'funny/romantic' type, NOT the Mills and Boon type. Authors like Marian Keyes, Jennifer Crusie, Jane Green and Sophie Kinsella are faves in that genre.
I went through a horror phase a few years ago and enjoyed a few Richard Laymon books as well as some Stephen King (Dolores Claiborne and Rose Madder especially). I'm not really into horror anymore though - and I have NEVER EVER been into horror movies.
Paul Reiser (of the TV show Mad About You fame) wrote a couple of humorous books called 'Couplehood' and 'Babyhood' which I really liked.
Only since I got my iPhone have I delved into ebooks and I've already got a pretty hefty collection, hehe. However I should probably admit I am a cheapskate when it comes to ebooks as I still have a mental block about paying more than a few dollars for a book I can't actually hold in my hand. Yes, I know the author works just as hard and I should be paying for their effort but I can't help it Most of my recent faves have fallen into the YA (young adult) supernatural/fantasy/dystopian genre and some examples are: The Demons series by Sarra Cannon The My Blood Approves series by Amanda Hocking The Zellie Wells trilogy by Stacey Wallace Benefiel The Soul Savers series by Kristie Cook (Purpose, Promise etc - covers look tacky IMO but was pleasantly surprised) Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz Delirium by Lauren Oliver Winter's Shadow by M.J Hearle Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
An exception to the fiction and YA stuff was - Inside by John Hoskison - "one man's experience of prison"
Yes, obviously I am an avid reader and generally stick to fiction. I also read fast. I usually like to own the books I read, so I don't go to the library very often. It's rare for me to not finish a book, even if I don't enjoy it very much - but I'll usually give it away afterwards.
TV DOCTOR WHO Glee Torchwood How I Met Your Mother The Big Bang Theory House other old stuff like - That 70's show, Gilmore Girls, The OC, Dawsons Creek, Red Dwarf, This Life, Fraggle Rock(!) I also tend to get sucked into home/personal makeover and bad reality TV, hehe but I haven't watched much of that lately.
MUSIC Dave Matthews Band (which is a little unusual as he's not well known here in Australia and I'm not really known for discovering 'unknown' music, hehe) Adele Maroon 5 John Mayer Matchbox Twenty Missy Higgins Lily Allen Foo Fighters Ben Folds Five Pink Evanescence Boys II Men Live (used to be my absolute fave and I met my husband online through their fan website)
..among others!
Right now I really like "Call me maybe" which is a really catchy purely pop song by Carly Rae Jepson, but you can see my taste runs from stuff like that through to R&B and rock and alt.rock but nothing too heavy.
SPORTS I am not really a sports fan.
I've played/participated in: Tee-ball, Soft-Crosse (kids LaCrosse), Netball, Indoor Cricket, Gymnastics, Volleyball, Dance, Touch rugby, athletics and aerobics; as well as various others as a part of school, but never really got into watching any sports. Actually that's not quite true as I did watch the NBL (Australian National Basketball League) for a while when I was younger, and my brother and ex-boyfriend played (field) hockey years ago so I watched them to but I don't really watch or follow any thing else any more. I dont mind watching gymnastics during the Olympics.
uuumm, yeah, this post took ages, in between kid wrangling and dinner etc, hehe. I guess I'll just say I'm thorough...

I even struggled with season one. Liked the books better. I think some of it might be cos I can't take the female star seriously in this after seeing her in my girl all those years ago. The books and series are totally different.
I think you're thinking of someone else. Anna Paquin was in The Piano when she was a wee thing. Won an Oscar for it.
They're thinking of anna chlumsky. They did look similar as youngens. Anna paquin was also in fly away home and is an aussie girl
