On my fourth try, got 30 hrs, so am out of this comp. koala to everyone! Would be wonderful to get 2nd one quickly for display egg so I could go back to trying for some of the other ones that are eluding me.

Very nice! Happy for you.

Ack, I don't even know how to breed a Rain Dragon!
No offense, Tommy, but this is music to my ears. Bodes well for those of us on the right side of the side bet. (btw, I didn't have a rain and had to look it up as well, hopefully my first one is almost finished breeding)
For anyone asking about the failure to look at friends list glitch, yes it is still a problem. Tried everything recommended anywhere (including some sort of hybrid Bavarian Rain dance with an inclusion of numerous and varied yogurt cups...don't ask, clean up is still ongoing and will probably end some time after I finally get a sapphire), to no avail. ---thus I cannot distribute lucky gems to help anyone achieve a successful sapphire breeding until some resolution has been reached
Finally, congrats to all those unlucky individuals who have already lost this competition! Pay attention to the board to see how real professionals (like Tommy and lostgirl) execute their game plans for this competition to perfection. Plenty of tips available for how not to breed successfully.
C0urage you are so funny. Last I heard from lostgirl is no saphire yet. Since she is in the bet with us she was relieved to report that. Lol. (we won't tell her I've been slipping BC's in the food to her dragons so we are good there. I almost have the hex doll of that cat done as well but it does look like he's off to a slow start. *giggling* he doesn't know how to get rain.
Billy welcome. But sorry to say it is to late for Sept. Myke closed the sign up on the 31st. That's not to say you can't join in on the good times, the friendly bantering, rooting and keeping everyone posted on your progress. The next gem of the month comp will be Oct with signs ups by the 30th of Sept.
Wow, I'm out of the comp already! I set up an area for egg fails expecting a long haul as for the Perodot and then got a Sapphire on the 4th try.
I'll keep the fails till the end of the month though because the only other dragon I need is Rainbow and I'd love more Sapphires.
I was trying for one & a turbo baby of each, but since I only started in July I have space in the island for extras if I can get them. Crystal fails were too dispiriting to continue with Peridot hunting after two!
koala folks, I'll keep checking in here anyway. Several of my regular gem pals are on here already, but I'll try to send a few gems to the last few in the comp as well once we reach that stage. (By that I mean extra to THE winner gem).
The lowest cave seems the perfect match for Sapphire but I was expecting an aquatic, poor dragon doesn't have much space there and no comfy grass! If she looks unhappy I'm moving her, so there!
Congratulations to all who have lost this contest!
Recap & update:
Too new to have known I was starting too early, I bred Ice+Metal and ended up with a Quicksilver. First try after Sapphire was definitely released, and combo confirmed, resulted in a Mountain. Second try resulted in an Iceberg. Third try is on EBS with another 6 hour 24mins.
Still waiting for BFS to straighten out a gem purchase gone wrong (charged, but no gems) wanted to speed some up while Peridot was still available. So, I am having to wait out the breeding and hatching times.

I'm cooking up my first official rain and mountain fails. Wish i could send them to those of you who need starter dragons.
The mountain fail came immediately after i bred a mountain on purpose for my empty breeding cave
Congrats to all who have already lost the competition!
