Hi Fletch (lovely darling sweetie), I've kind of got off track with the dragons I need to breed - can you have another look at my numbers? Thank you xxxxxx
No probs. Chocolate always works as a bribe. You need
23 Fire 25 Earth 24 Air 29 Cold 26 Lightning 23 Water 28 Plant 27 Metal
26 Bloom and 2 Lichen/Reindeer to start
23 Fire 25 Earth 24 Air 1 Cold 23 Water 27 Metal
7 Chrome, 8 Iron, 6 Brass and 6 Rust knocks off the Metal and leaves 17 Panlongs to finish it off ... except for the 1 remaining Cold. Another Lichen is pretty quick to knock that off. So

Hi, Fletch and the gang
I'm about 6 weeks into my vale. I have the grandkiddie's new park up and rolling along, so I can put my attention to something besides decorating my park and conducting a haphazard breeding scheme. It's been mostly directed at accumulating the right hybrids and limited dragons, with the occasional knee-jerk of a Pearl or a Solstice. I need a plan for a rational breeding program.
I have 83 dragons at lv 10 and 4 babies for a total of 87 dragons. No Blooms, no Panlongs, a scattered mix of the rest, heavy on the fire element in hybrids. I re-read this thread every couple of days for inspiration, but I can't figure out where to start. Help!, please.
EDIT: I forgot breeding pairs. I have pairs of many dragons, how specific do I need to be about them? Thank you~Debra

Hi,
In order to make the shrine grind as "painless" as possible, the Panlong and the Bloom dragons are key. Between the two, they account for 7 elements. You can still complete the grind without them. But having them as part of the solution will save you time and money.
I would recommend, therefore, getting 2 panlongs before it leaves the market. Do you have any bloom dragons? As long as you have 2 of the same seasonal dragon, you can breed them together to produce more, even if the dragon has left the market.
As for the rest of your breeding strategy, depends on you. I like to have all the dragons, so whenever a new one comes out, I stop the shrine grind and focus on getting the new dragon.

What's the status of your shrines to date?
Hi, Myke
No Blooms, I started after Blooms went away. Shrines are all pre-silver.

Debs, my advice is to not worry about it too much at the moment. You don't get your last shrine until Level 25 so we can 't really make a plan until then. And the plan is best needed when working on the Gold shrines. For the moment concentrate on getting two Panlongs.
I just did some rough calculations and counted up what I've already bred and what is in hibernation. I haven't fed everything up to level 15 , but I need 7 Blooms, 14 Panlongs, and a few odds and ends to get my shrines to gold.
It isn't breeding dragons that goes slowly, it's feeding them. When I started being ruthless about putting low earners into hibernation and setting up habitats based on the frequency of my sweeps, growing food got a little faster. I still need more high earners in habitats that can handle them.

Wait till you start on those Panlongs ...
I don't have a problem with the 36 hour incubation for Pans. I needed 25 when I started the grind in earnest. I'm working at optimizing earning DC to get enough food to keep up with hatching everything. Fails for gem dragons and for rare dragons have filled up my hibernation cave to the point that I'd have 2 gold shrines, if only I could feed the little ones up to level 15. Emerald fails put me over the top. I sold off the extras.

I saw this today, Fletch. Thanks. Your advice is appreciated. I've started breeding for Panlongs, without any success, but I'm only about a dozen tries into it. I'll apply the "P-Squared" approach...Patience and Persistence.

Thanks for all the work you put in and all you give to this community. It's really cool to see your selflessness.
I would appreciate your help if you have time. I have been working hard on Panlongs but have a lot of work to do with Blooms (I do have 2 Blooms). Here is what I have so far working to Gold (Silver is done):
Plant - 7 Fire - 34 Earth - 44 Cold - 7 Lightning - 11 Water - 32 Air - 32 Metal - 16

Thank you sir.
It's a pleasure. So you need:
43 Plant 26 Fire 6 Earth 43 Cold 39 Lightning 18 Water 18 Air 34 Metal
39 Bloom to start with. Then 4 Reindeer/Lichen. And 6 Panlong.
18 Fire 12 Water 12 Air 34 Metal
Then 12 Rust (for resale value), 14 Brass and 8 Chrome to finish off the Metals. Leaving 4 Blazing to finish. So
I'm easing myself into the shrine grind, breeding some pans & blooms in this current lull between new dragons, as been hanging on to my chromes (fails from sandstorm) ready to feed them up too. My question is all these level 15 dragons... be just have to start selling them off once we run out of room right? I mean even with a max upgraded cave we are going to run out of room. The pans are obviously good money makers but the metals etc. I guess they just have to go at some point? Be hard selling those level 15 dragons, shame you don't get more cash for them!! Anyway I am just checking I wasn't missing something

The only reason to keep them is if they might open shrines again and you suddenly need to make a bunch of Level 20 dragons. But because food requirements keep doubling, a level 15 dragon only has 3% of the food required to get level 20, so it's not too big a deal.

That is an awful thought the level 15 is only 3% of level 20.... Eek that is ALOT of food
Metal is the only element that doesn't appear in a 3 or more element dragon. So when working on your shrines, you need to knock them off with hybrid dragons which then lower you other 7 elements down.
You then work on those other 7 elements with Bloom and Panlong, which very neatly knock off those 7 elements between them, or other combination which use 3 dragon to make up those 7 elements we now have quite a few combinations to use. I thought I should compile them here, to include in the OP later.
Love - Lightning/Plant/Fire - 5 hr (4 hr) breed time. A great dragon to use with the short breed time. The remaining 4 elements can be got with Sandstorm and Ice/Iceberg for a total of 15 hr (12 hr) breed time for all 3 dragons. These 3 dragons get all 7 elements done in slightly longer time than it takes to breed a Bloom dragon by itself. This is useful if you are just rolling in the cash.
Sakura - Plant/Earth/Fire - 10 hr (8hr) breed time. + Storm and Fog or Sonic and Ice/Iceberg to knock these off for a total of 23 hr (18 hr 24 min).
Bloom - Plant/Cold/Lightning - 13 hr (10 hr 24 min) breed time. + Firework and Mud get this down to 25 hr (20 hr) all up.
Butterfly - Air/Lightning/Fire - 12 hr (9 hr 36 min) breed time. + Lichen and Mud make this combo 24 hr (19 hr 12 min) in total. If you've bred some Evergreens now as well, that's really time in the bank.
My Blooms are bred and waiting in the HC for food to level up. I need 9 more Pans and a lot of metals, but I'm waiting to see if a Metal hybrid arrives and cuts down the need for Pans. I'm growing food and leveling up dragons for now. breeding only for cash, to get more food. Sigh. Hungry, hungry dragons. At least they don't get sick.

Yes, it is a very good thing they don't get sick, or that the food goes bad. Guess we keep waiting for the metal hybrid to help us out.
I only have three level 15 dragons now, all panlong. So, in theory, I should follow the base pattern in the first post with exceptions being when I like a non-list dragon enough to make 15 and just adjust from there if I deviate a little? What is the min hc capacity I will need to do this?

Personally I don't see a connection between liking a dragon and making it Level 15. It doesn't become any better because it's Level 15. The only reasons I can see to make a dragon Level 15 is earning capacity (which is a fallacy, because you will never earn enough from a dragon to make back the money you spent on food) and to make Gold Shrines.
You need a min of 138 dragons, and it's probably unlikely you'll have 38 of them on your islands, so even with a full HC you'll be selling off some of them after you've fed them up.
Hihi.. Spoken like a true scientist on the correlation between leveling and liking! But, beyond the dragons I like to look at and keeping spares for breeding, I have no issues selling the dragons. So, essentially, fatten them up and sell them unless I plan on displaying it for whatever reason? I suppose saving them for platinum shrines would be burdensome! In summation, no additional hc space is then required? Just "love 'em and leave 'em"? And, thank you.

Welcome. You could keep them, for a future grind to get to level 20, but as each level is a doubling of food/money required, Level 15 gets you just 3% of the way, so it's no great loss to have to replicate that in the future ... financially speaking.
