I'm close to getting my other Shrines to Silver, already have Lightning and Plant there. So, Fletch, this is what I've come up with on how to handle the grind, please tell me what you think?
1.) I'm going to level all the dragons I have 2 of to 15. 2.) I'm going to see where this leaves my Lightning/Plant shrines as I think they'll level on their own like they did with the Silver, but we'll see after 1 is completed. 3.) I'm going to use the following to get the rest of what I need. Water + Metal = Rust because it's only a 6 hour dragon Air = Sandstorm because it's only a 2 hour dragon Cold + Fire + Earth = Paper because it's only a 12 hour dragon
This gets me out of having to breed so many Panlongs which have longer breed times. I'm still going to breed some so that my coins can increase by using them in habitats, but I think I can get away without having to breed them for the grind, correct?
I haven't looked into Lightning or Plant yet as I want to see where I'm left after I get my other Shrines to Silver and start feeding everyone up to 15. I may need to breed some just for those shrines, but I have a feeling I may not have too, we'll see.
You will have to do something about Plant and Lightning. There's a world of difference between Silver and Gold Shrines. Feed them up and post your numbers and we'll see where we are at. It will take a while to feed all your pairs up to 15, but I'm not going anywhere.
So you've done Plant and Earth? You can obviously feed up those hybrids for the shrines you need to bump a number without affecting things. An alternative to feeding up Pure Element Dragons ...
Yep, been doing that. I had to leave a Blazing at level 14 and feed up a Fire to 15 instead so I wouldn't flip my Air shrine to gold in the midst of raising my Fire shrine to gold. Now, I'm working on my Cold shrine, and helping Water and Metal get closer to turning Gold. The Lightning shrine has been at 49 for about a month already.
Instead of the Fire, you could have done a Brass or Blue/Frostfire to help those shrines. Feeding up a Pure dragon is somewhat wasting the food when you can be feeding a hybrid and helping another shrine on the way.

True, but I'd have had to breed one to feed it up. I already had a Fire at level10 sitting in the HC. In fact, I only need to breed two more metal dragons before I have all the dragons that I will need for my shrines. It is just a matter of feeding them up in the right order. I'm hoping to be able to turn the last shrine before the end of September.
Ok, I've been thinking about my dragon chioces. I was in the middle of the fire shrine and chose not to breed a more efficient choice of hybrid. I have a bit more time to plan now and water is the shrine with the lowest count, next to metal.
Cold 48 Lightning 49 Water 44 Air 47 Metal 43
I have 2 Icebergs for my cold shrine 1 Plasma for lightning 1 Rain, 1 Fog, 1 quicksilver for water 1 Chrome for Air Which leaves me needing 2 dragons for metal since I have 3 Mine dragons that were fails from when I was trying for Silver (still don't have a Silver).
While I'm debating what to breed for gold shrines (shortest time vs keeping existing pairs) I thought I'd breed for cash in in spare moments amidst the struggle for latest dragons!
So which are the best to breed please? Magnetic/Rust?

Magnetic/Iron are the best value of time for money. Doing a Rust overnight is fine because the time doesn't matter.
I think it's time I ask for help if you don't mind Fletch? This new Paper dragon has got my plan slightly mussed up as I was plodding along with the standard pattern you had down on the first page. Any help on amending my current direction would be appreciated.
I have 2 of everything bar Frostfire, Plasma, Current, Clover, Dodo, Scoria, Quicksilver and Sandstorm of which I only have 1 of each. Still no Malachite as of yet
I have extras totaling 18 Panlongs, 15 Bloom, 12 Brass, 4 Rust, 6 Chrome, 3 Iron, 3 Sakura, 5 Paper (these figures include the 2 I've said I have of everything). I know I have a few other random dragons in the HC but I wasn't going to level these up to count towards the shrine grind.

35 Plant 33 Earth 31 Fire 38 Cold 30 Lightning 31 Air 34 Water 47 Metal
8 Mine, 5 Malachite/Ironwood, 2 Iron and 3 Rust will even up the numbers.
30 Cold 30 Lightning 30 Plant 31 Earth 31 Fire 31 Air 31 Water 29 Metal
10 more Mine + 10 Magnetic + 9 more Malachite/Ironwood knocks off the metal and a plant dragon will make it down to 20 of those three elements for Blooms and 31 Panlongs for the other 4. 31 Panlongs 20 Blooms 18 Mine 14 Malachite/Ironwood 10 Magnetic 3 Rust 2 Iron 1 Plant
Now for speed
35 Plant 33 Earth 31 Fire 38 Cold 30 Lightning 31 Air 34 Water 47 Metal
31 Paper to start with.
4 Plant 2 Earth 7 Cold 30 Lightning 31 Air 34 Water 47 Metal
7 Storm, 4 Cactus, 2 Iron and 19 Magnetic leaves
31 Air 34 Water 26 Metal
11 Chrome and 15 Rust leaves 19 Fog and 1 Air to finish it up. 31 Paper 19 Fog 19 Magnetic 15 Rust 11 Chrome 7 Storm 4 Cactus 2 Iron 1 Air
A mix of these two will probably be the best approach.

Thanks Fletch - you're a star! Hadn't even though about taking a speed breed approach but it may come to that as I'm not having much chance to get going with it again with all of the new limiteds that keep appearing.
Just out of interest has anyone ever finished the shrine grind by taking 2 of the standard dragons and raising them to level 15 and from there going for the dragons that allow you to go for gold in the least no. of dragons required?
I'm just wondering about trying a different tack as I already aim for 2 of each dragon and I'd quite like to raise them both to level 15. Plus it seems a shame to feed all those dragons and then sell them because there's not enough room in the HC. The least no. of dragons I need to go for is 99 if my math is correct and the quickest is 109 and I'm not sure I ever imagined it'd be that many dragons left to go. Definitely kudos to all those that have completed it and still have room for the ever increasing family of new dragons.

Now that you we have space for 200 dragons in the HC it will be easier to do the grind without selling. Let me check.
50 dragons for 8 elements means you need 400 elements to turn your shrines gold. There are
8 dragons with 1 element 49 dragons with 2 elements 4 dragons with 3 elements 2 dragons with 2 elements
2 of each of these makes 124 dragons and covers 252 elements. That leaves 148 elements which at the worst will take 74 dragons, but should be way less than that with Panlong and Bloom making up most of the rest. But at worst it's 198 dragons, and I have 65 dragons out in regular habitats so that would mean 133 regulars in the HC with plenty of room for the rares, epics and gemstone dragons.

I haven't (by far) finished the grind yet but that's the approach I make to it : two of every dragon and then the least possible number of extra dragons ( which implies a lot of Panlongs). It will take much longer to breed all those Panlongs but I will need less food and am able to keep them for a possible subsequent upgrade on the shrines. I don't know which limited dragons you have but i need only 59 extra dragons. (I have all limited dragons except for Bone, Reindeer, Love, Clover and LYD) koala for your shrine grind and dragon hunt

I clearly have way too many extra's in my HC as am at 110 already. Off to go and check what I've duplicated now as it's been a while since I've gone through the list. Thanks for the breakdown though. It makes it a bit easier to see why so many dragons are needed now that I can see how many elements are required.

What are the no.s and dragons that comprise of the 59 you still need? I'm missing all of the limiteds that you are so will be looking at the same sort of plan if I go this way, however I have already bred quite a few Panlongs and also a few Papers since their arrival so this might alter my no.s slightly. I have a feeling if I do decide that this is the route for me I'll be needed a spreadsheet to keep track of it all - am turning into my dad already needing spreadsheets for everything - erk!

I really like this approach. It's realistic. I'm likely to do something similar. Remember to leave some flexibility, as Fletch has proclaimed there are still several hybrids yet to be released.
As a new player I've just started to give the shrines some thought. More in the way of " what dragons to keep&store and which to sell" when hunting down rare and limited dragons. So, I don't have the Bloom dragon, but Paper. What is a sensible way forward? 50 Paper 50 fog/rain 50 magnetic/copper Or should I perhaps hope for a new 3 elements dragon to cover three of the elements missing in Paper or panlong? I guess there will be one sooner or later...
Would

These are my extra dragons : 18 Panlong 16 Bloom 08 Rust (or Quicksilver) 01 Storm 04 Chrome 05 Mine (or Steel) 02 Iron ( or Scoria) 05 Magnetic (or Copper) ----- 59
And - yes - I have an excel spreadsheet made up for this. It doesn't calculate which dragons I need ( that was to complex for me) but it shows how many from each element is needed and offers the possibility to get in some extra dragons to see what then will be left. If you want to you can pm me your mail adress and I will send you the sheet (or is it possible to add it to the mails inside this forum ?)
The crux with this approach to the shrine grind is that every time a new dragon with normal elements appears , I try to get the number (59) smaller which results in the fact that I need some other extra dragons. So I don't breed for them until all of the "normal" dragons are fed to level 15. Then there will be a moment when I have to fix the extra dragons. At the moment I keep the fails that match needed extra dragons in the HC and don' feed them (how cruel!) The only exception to not feeding extra dragons is the Panlong. It's sure that I will need a lot of them so if I happen to breed one I feed it and put it in a habitat (they are making a lot of DC)

And, I have two of all limiteds from Bloom on. I could stick with the standard model, but panlong is so long time for breeding them. If there is a shorter method in terms of time required, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for this. Am working on a spreadsheet now and looks like I might have most of the dragons I need by starting out on Fletch's standard plan and building up my colony of Panlongs. I just need to get feeding them! This might not be as far out of my reach as I thought
