Thanks for the replies today's question - is it worth upgrading the breeding cave for 25 gems or should I save them up for an epic breeding island?
Am I right in thinking you are asking whether to add the 3rd hatching bed in the nursery vs. saving for the epic breeding island?
In my opinion, with the number of long breeding/incubation times we seem to be getting, I guess I would upgrade the nursery before getting the island. Once that island is in operation you are going to have better odds of getting rare dragons that could clog up those hatching beds and cause a road block.
In that case, my opinion would be the ebi. Fletch's testing has shown that it has a higher percentage of getting the rare dragons. If you are only breeding for coins, then the cave would be fine for the mags/irons, etc.

Hi everyone! Glad I found this forum. I've been playing for about 3 weeks, level 21 and loving it. I'm maxed out and bored of the other games I play so I'm loving the new challenge of this game.
I do have some questions. The only one that comes to mind right now is- do you get XP if you display eggs instead of hatching them? I'm not in a huge rush yet to actually do this because I'm growing as many as I can for my silver shrines but i am curious.

Other questions I thought of:
Does the number of visitors serve any real purpose? I know the better the Vale, the higher the number but it is really important? From what I see there is no bonus or anything.
Competing in the coliseum. Is there any strategy? Or you just pick a dragon and hope for the best? Are you always guaranteed a place or is it possible to get a "you lose- you get nothing." ??

Hi Stacey! Welcome to the forum and addiction! Glad you joined us! I don't believe you get XP from displaying eggs but I'm not 100% sure on that.
No...number of visitors makes no difference to anything in the game. I usually use pure bred for the colosseum but there is no real strategy that I have found and I have been playing since last October. There have been a few instances where I got a bronze metal and got nothing but it's been maybe 3 or 4 times since I started the game. Hope this helps you some.

Welcome aboard, Stacey!
To add to Shellee's answer, while you don't get XP for displaying the eggs you will get XP if you decide later to sell it. So you don't really lose out if you change your mind.
My strategy for gold in the colosseum is to mix it up. I never put the same dragon in back to back. I dont know if it really matters whether it's a hybrid or pure bred dragon, I haven't seen a difference. For me rotation is the key, so check your Trophies log and pick a different candidate
I have a question regarding "hats". I had a new friend this AM, so I've never been to their place before, but when I went there just now, there were no "hats" for me to play with. I was under the impression (most likely mistaken) that it didn't matter if anyone else had been to their islands, I'd always have 3 hats to click, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
So, do I have to hope that I made it to a friends place before somebody else, in order to have a "hat" to play with, or should I always get 3 hats regardless of how many other people have been their previously?

Dry your tears young dragon hunter, party hats should always be available to you no matter how many neighbors have visited before you.
Not sure why there were none there for you on your first visit. You might consider closing the app to see if they show up. Might just be a new neighbor thing. If this isn't right, someone will be right along to correct me.
fyi - double click home button hold down any icon until they start to jiggle click the minus sign to completely close app click home button again to return to normal

Yeah, I close out all my games right after using them as some of them won't run well if there are other apps open. This is so odd. It isn't just happening with that new friend either, it happens with ones I've had since starting the game. That is why when I noticed it happening on this "new" friend, I figured something was incorrect in my thinking. I'll see what happens when I go around to the rest of my neighbors in a few hours and write down their names and how many hats I have left. At least that way I'll know who I may have to go back to, since my friends list is getting longer by the day.
Side note: The places I've been to are beautiful. I can't wait until I have enough coin to make my place look that good. Right now it's just a blank canvas with habitats and boosts placed in places I think I'll get the most bang for my buck. LOL

I agree that is odd not to have hats to collect on a brand new friend, and even odder on previous friends that had not yet been collected. Hope it sorts itself out soon, if not drop a note to BFS, they seem to be great devs that should be able to help.
Some people have such a wonderful vision of their dragon empire. Mine most likely looks very similar to yours, most likely to stay that way unless some kind person doesn't mind my copying them. koala with your decorating. Hope you will share yours when you get that far along.

I'm pretty sure you do get XP when displaying eggs. Can someone check next time they do that please.

You should always have hats regardless as far as I know. If it has not been 24 hrs since you visited that person I have noticed that they were not there to collect. Did you try a little later and see if you could collect them from that particular GC ID?
Ok, I think I figured out what my "hat" issue was.
I think they were "hiding". When I went to all my neighbors last night, I went very very slowly and found some that were very hard to see behind dragons, trees, misc deco. The other thing I noticed was even though I passed an island that didn't have any "hats" available, after I made a sweep and went back to it, it now had a "hat" available. Not sure WHY that was, as I couldn't have missed it on the first pass since it was a pretty barren island with only 3 metal habitats and none of the dragons were flying, but I guess I did. Or they are just trying to trick me. LOL
I think I'm going to have to hold off a day for "hat" picking, as doing it as late as I did last night, won't be a common occurrence so I need to try to time it for earlier in the evening. I wish the day reset at midnight our time, or even midnight their time, to make things easier. We can't always get back to our game around the same time everyday.

Hi, queentina! I try to collect party hats all at one time, in the evening before I go to bed. That way I'm sure it's been 24 hrs, & that I haven't missed anyone, just go right down the list of friends. That said, once in a while, it still seems one park will not have all 3 hats. I look carefully a few times, shrug my shoulders & move on to the next park. Doesn't happen all the time, but every once in a while, I just can't find one. Hope that helps.
Oops, I see your post above me. So maybe my strategy won't work for you.

Actually that will work for me, except maybe not right before bed. I'm thinking to try anywhere between 5p-8p my time. This way even if I'm a bit late one day, I won't be doing them at 12a-1a my time. That was just brutal. LOL

I displayed an egg, no xp, then sold it--6,000 xp (lichen egg).
*sigh* my seaweed and snow dragons are getting sick of rumpty-tumpty.
I wish there was something I suggest to speed these guys up. Perhaps increasing their vitamins? Keeping this clean......
