I find right now the only bots that consistently win for me are:
Lead: Grinder w/red disc Trainer w/elf shoes Caterpillar w/green plant on the drill thingie Any other lead bots I use seem to die too fast except the Nature bot.
I find the following support bots are the only ones that consistently do good enough damage to win a fight when left to their own devices: Solar bot w/reflector Harvester w/scythe Aloe w/fire plant
Any combination of the above bots is generally a win every time. Anything else is a crapshoot.
Bots that I fail miserably with: Bouncer bot w/knuckles Geo bot w/axe Xray bot w/armor Grav bot w/ the melee gizmo, I forget what its called Safety bot w/ the speed+++ gizmo
This is pretty much against caterpillar/laser every time.
Other bots can do well at times but these are my trusted combos and I keep on pumping out bots that can fight. I wish the Trainer bots could go in something other than repair/performer zones because they are awesome. They crit on almost every hit against the caterpillar.

Once I discovered what a beast the Grinder with red disc was he has pretty much been my go-to lead bot. Support then is whatever needs earning power raised.
Will probably play more with this when all my zones are at peak earning power.

Mole bot in front with the shredder works really well too. Just make sure you have a bot with Charge+++ in the back in case the mole takes his sweet time. I find the Mole bots are Caterpillar Killers.
Has anyone mentioned that using Repair as the backup works well - he repairs the lead bot every time he gets hit! I've usually used grinder up front - only lost a couple times with these two.

The only problem with the Repair as the backup is if your front bot ever dies, its game over. BUt yes, in general it works well especially with red disc grinder or mole bot.

Just in case anyone cares; I'm one of the players that likes to get all my bots to 100% cash boost via fighting, and I mean every single one... so I do lose my share of fights experimenting, but I usually win thanks to specific combos and matchups. I don't keep stats or anything though, although I should have.
Anyhow, just to update my previous post on this, these are the bots I find are competetive and combos that work:
Lead bots: Mole (Cheese Grater: Speed++, Melee++) - Tons of health, hits well Nature (Water Cannon: Melee+, Speed++) - Tons of health, hits adequately Caterpillar (Stinger: Ranged+++) - Tons of health, hits adequately Grinder (Disc: Speed+++) - Average health, monster hits Trainer (Elf Shoes: Melee+++, Speed+++) - Average to low health, massive hits
Everything else is no good in the front, literally. Unless you have a master bot fighting alone
Nope, if you put miner in the front with solar in the back, they win almost every single time. (With battle gizmos of course)
Ahh, see I use to use Miner in the front back when I was sub-level 10, and it used to work. But since I've gotten to 15, they seem to die in a heartbeat every time I face a caterpillar. So I discontinued use of them. Good to know they can still win. that said, just about everything with a Solar in the back can win... Solar is the best I can find in the back!!

Okay so I gave Wapatango's idea a shot, and sure as heck, the Miner bot did about 100-ish damage per hit, and got creamed, but by the time he died the solar bot was almost at a full charge and annihilated whatever was left of their main bot and backup bot in 3 hits. That's consistent with what I remember about solar bots with the charge/speed gizmo. Pure ownage. I have about 8-10 fully $$%maxed out from fighting because they are so good at it. Thanks for that, wap. I dont really buy any mining bots, but i had one laying around that wasnt maxed so i did.
Well, to be honest. My mom deserves the thanks. She's the one who discovered it and told me. When I finish leveling up my current miner, I'm going to see if solar will be good back up for a yeti. I want to get those guys leveled up, and I haven't found a winning combo yet for the yetis.

Thank you been trying to do the samething but been losing 9 out of 10 fight by following this I am winning 9 out of 10 fights Great job Ty again Smeghead
If you put yeti in front of solar, you have a winning combo. I have almost finished leveling my second yeti. Once I do, I will switch to geo w/ solar as backup and see if that is a good combo as well. Plus, I have a new competition idea I think would be great. It is inspired by a very near loss. I had only a sliver of green left on my solar bot when I won one battle. Suddenly, an idea popped into my head... Wouldn't it be fun to have a competition to see who can win by the narrowest margin. You can choose any two bots you want, but the object is to win "by the skin of your teeth." Just thought I'd throw the idea out there and see if anyone else likes it.
