I've been using grinder with red disk and solar lvl 15 against caterpillar 14 and laser 15 and winning. The grinder takes a big hit but is still standing when the bout is over.
How high can the income boost get? I have just started this game and it seems much more complicated than Dragonvale. I think I am going to have to chart out the possible bots, figure out what I have and what I need. Then start figuring out the battle stuff.

You can double the original earnings at max boost, i.e. + 100% boost and up to 110% boost if you have the gizmo that boosts income by 10%. Each battle won, boosts your bot's by 10%.
A good lead bot would be the grinder with red disc (speed +++) and good support bots include Aloe with fire plant (speed +, ranged +++), caterpillar with stinger (ranged +++), carrier with rocket launcher (charge damage +++). Have a look at the earlier pages in this thread, there's a lot of combos that others have tried and found to work.
I did have a strange thing happen. I played astro vs floodlight 14 and rock 13 thinking it was an easy win. They were crushing my astro after a few hits. It had very little health left so I tapped the 'skip' button in disgust to get to the YOU WERE DEFEATED!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! screen. But, it said I won? My astro had a tiiiiiny piece of health left and the floodlight had over half health not to mention the full health rock bot. Was very odd, but I won't complain!

That happened with a lvl 15 astro with ion drive but since sticking to using plasma engine as the gizmo, the lvl 15 astro defeated all opponents so far including a lvl 15 caterpillar with stinger and a lvl 15 laser with cannon. So maybe the plasma engine is a better gizmo than the ion drive for battles? Have also tried the pulsar engine a couple of times but I reckon the wins were not as convincing but could be wrong on this.
It's official, plasma beats pulsar, best astro gizmo to have! 1 crystal for reward too!

Has anybody had the Win a Battle for the Crystal reward lately? I think I've had "Gift a Crystal to a friend" pretty consistently since the update.
Since update, you only get "gift a friend" goals for crystal rewards, unfortunately. At least 2 others and myself have confirmed this in the other thread.

And I'm on the new iPad so don't know why I can't attach. Attach option with "choose file" greyed out, only appears when I quote or reply, not otherwise in quick reply.

I do have the app, but the option to attach images from the app has a glitch in it. Sometimes the option to choose from the camera roll is present, sometimes not. The intend to fix it, but have not as yet.

Edit: Did a little reading on the subject and it seems uploading files in Safari was enabled when updating to iOS 6.xx. Which iOS are you using?
So I got the plow gizmo for my lvl 11 Yeti just imagining this thing being a beast. Used my few and hard to get crystals. Put the yeti in support to the grinder and he was terrible. They should have made a Yeti tough.....ESPECIALLY with a snowplow. I mean come on....
Well that very yeti with that gizmo plus grinder red disk, both level 15 were mashed by the darn pair caterpilar and laser bot. Grrrrrrrrrr I have to rethink strategies

My sense is we have been limited to 6 crystals a day. Is anyone getting more? If so let me in on the secret.....
I find Mole with Cheese Grater + Carrier with Rocket Launcher can consistently defeat opponents of armed Caterpillar+Laser at max levels. I'll be using this pair to boost Carrier for max Robux yields in Mining zones. Attached is a picture of the match that ended when Laser took a last shot on the butt.
