Contest: Short story on the subject given below. Prize: Seven Crystals to the winner from me and a crystal from each participant to the winner. The winner will send a gem to second place. The reading public is well encouraged to send all participants a gem for sharing their wonderful stories
Story Topic News is just in! The public is clamouring for the true to life saga of how your came to own your gizmonaut outpost! Rumour has it that there is even talk of a movie!
What we are missing is the actual story, which, at this point, is a minor detail in the plan to make the film! How did you come to own and run your outpost (or do you even own it and run it??)? The public demands access into the inner-most struggle and story of this greatest achievement. Were you a space pirate and you sacked a vessel bound for Xantos 5 and stole the makings of your park? Are you actually an andriod and this is a precursor to an intergalactic take-over of the cyberbeings? Did a werewolf/meremaid attack you in a forrest/pond and leave you with the unbidden desire to own and operate your own spacebot outpost?? We MUST know!
Be as outlandish, over-the-top, creative, emotionally wrenching, romantic, twisted, scary, insane, ultra-rational, humourous as you like. Afterall, this is the tell-all tale of your outpost. And, think of the movie options! There will probably be a movie... I mean, wouldn't you think so? With a story like yours, there has to be! Did we mention that there is a 500 million Robux budget for the special effects alone??

I'm in What about a max word count, do we need one? My last was about 1200 & I think was the longest entry, would shorter ones get more readers? Micro fiction is tough though!

Free form is fine. I won't put restrictions on the word count. Your last one was fine, as you obviously saw having won!
TY but the others would have netted more votes with a bigger pool of voters.
The short poem contests got the same amount of votes. It is more a case of interest than the stories being too lengthy. Just write it as long as you like within reason.

Okay, here is my submission. It isn't perfect and it is long. Probably much too long and the punctuation isn't perfect either. But, I think you'll notice some familiar names in it and I hope you have fun with that. Please know that although the names are based on real people, but the characters in this story are fictional and their attributes and behaviors are all in the spirit of fun. Some names were used because they just fit with the character. Enjoy!
Worlds Apart
Chapter 1
Life was a comfortable routine. Each day was the same as before. Even the sky was the same each day. A peaceful blue sky with puffy white clouds that hung above and below my islands. I reveled in this sameness. I was content. I had no reason to believe that life wouldn't always be this way. I had never even thought about it until that day. That day when the sky turned black and my whole world was turned upside down.
It began like any other day. I woke up in the same bed in my thatched roof cottage, had the same Dragonroot Tea with Zazzberry topped Dragonsnap Pancakes for breakfast and set about my day. I rushed through my morning routine of collecting the coins from all the dragon habitats, checked on the eggs in the nursery and the dragons in the breeding caves, and harvested the Pumpermelons. I planted some Blushrooms because I knew I would be back in two hours, then rushed off to visit my friend Bliss.
I found Bliss in the Dragon Library as usual. Bliss liked books and was always researching the latest breeding strategies for her dragons. It was Bliss who first discovered the strange stones that made a magical perch for the Kairos dragon. But today I was hoping that Bliss found a cure for my Pollen Dragon who seemed to be sneezing a bit more than usual lately.
"Hello Bliss" I said in a hushed tone. I always felt the need to speak quietly in the library.
Bliss smiled as she looked up in greeting. "Well hello Maidy. What brings you by today?"
"I brought you a few more of Lemmy's illustrations for the book you two are working on." I answered. " I was also hoping you had time to find a cure for my Pollen dragon's incessant sneezing. It's getting worse and keeps the other dragons up at night."
"Oh. Right!" Bliss jumped up and began to sort through her shelves of books. "I was just looking at that the other day and...Where did I put that...Oh, here it is!"
Bliss handed me a large thick book. "Page 45. Mix 3 Sarjin Peppers into mashed Omegasquash and feed that to the dragon three times a day for a week. That should clear it right up!"
Relieved, I quickly copied the recipe and handed the book back to Bliss. "Thank you Bliss. I'll let you know how it goes. Now I better get back to my park. Eternity is dropping by later to see my new Kairos dragon. She is thinking about getting one for her park and I want to polish the perch so it's all shiny before she arrives."
"Oh that sounds nice. Have a good day and thanks for bringing me the illustrations Maidy." Bliss mumbled and was quickly absorbed in Lemmy's drawings. Chuckling, I headed out the door and back to my park.
After I got back, I was about to mix up the cure to feed my Pollen dragon when I saw that Kairos was flying overhead. He was such a majestic beast, but also a bit intimidating, due to his size. I decided that this would be a good time to polish the stones and brass perch while he was occupied elsewhere. Kairos was a new addition to my park and I wasn't sure how he would react to my being near his perch.
I had just finished the tip of the claw and climbed back down when Kairos came swooping back. He seemed quite pleased with his clean perch and turned curious eyes my direction. I stood very still, and spoke soothingly. He responded with a throaty warble and I stood transfixed, completely unaware of anything but the sound of his song. The extent of my oblivion became painfully obvious in the next moment when a whooshing sound tickled my ear and a powerful blow impacted my body, sending me hurtling into the air. The tail. In my reverie, I had forgotten all about the pendulum swinging tail of the Kairos dragon.
I wasn't worried at first. I had walked on the edges of my islands as a child. It was impossible to fall off. Some invisible wall prevented you from going beyond the rock ledge lining the islands. But as I was flung into the air, I climbed higher and higher with the force of the blow; as high as the space where the dragons flew. There was no invisible wall up here. The dragons could fly beyond the islands. They never went very far, and always stayed in sight, so I never thought about any invisible walls keeping them in. I soon found out that there were no walls at this height. No walls at all. And now I was falling downward. Down past my beautiful islands, past my peaceful existence and comforting routines, and into a strange unknown where the sky became an inky darkness.
Chapter 2
A musky dampness seeped into my clothes, bringing me back to consciousness. I opened my eyes to darkness. Where my eyes really open or was I just imaging it? My eyes began to focus and I noticed little twinkling lights and round balls with holes in them floating in the blackness. My eyes must be open I thought. But where was my blue sky and puffy white clouds? I didn't have time to ponder this for long because the next thing I knew, I was staring into the eye of a creature I had never seen before. The creature had a rounded body made of metal that housed a flower and was attached to a wheel on either side. On top of the creature's body was a cone shaped head that consisted of a wide mouth and large single eye. A metal flower bonnet adorned the creature's head making it somehow less frightening as it approached me.
"Good morning little butterfly! I've brought you some yummy worms for your breakfast," the metal creature said while dangling writhing slimy worms above my face.
Waving the worms away with my arms, I managed to sit up and find my voice. "I-I-I'm not a butterfly and you're....you're a...what are you? And where am I? And what am I lying on? And..."
"Oh goodness! You can talk! You must not be a butterfly then. I've never seen a creature like you before. You look similar to the space people that visit here, but you are dressed very differently. But where are my manners? My name is GTFlowerGirl, but you can call me GT. I am a Flower Bot. You are on Outpost 988 and you are lying on a pile of diatomaceous earth. I apologize for the wetness but my plants like it that way." GT smiled as she spoke in a slightly tinny voice. There was something calming about her that put me at ease.
"It's nice to meet you GT," I managed as I tried to wrap my brain around a talking flower bot. "My name is Maidy and I'm a Wizard. I live in a park in DragonVale. I was sort of knocked off my island and landed here I guess. Do you know how I can get home?"
"Well, it's nice to meet you too Maidy. I've never met a wizard before and I've never heard of DragonVale. It sounds very interesting. Do they have flowers there? I really like flowers. Would you like to see my flowers?" No sooner had GT uttered those words then she was rolling off to a spinning contraption comprised of shelves that held all kinds of plants and flowers. I tried to look interested and in truth found some of the plants fascinating, but I really just wanted to go home.
"GT, your plants are beautiful, but I'd really like to go home. My dragons need to be fed and my Blushrooms should be ready for harvest."
"Blushrooms? I haven't heard of those. But of course you must go home and tend to them. I hate to think of plants going untended. Poor dears. They are very sensitive you know. Now, let's see. We must go see FrankenFletch. He's the brains of this Outpost. If anyone can think of a way for you to go home it would be him."
I have to admit that the name FrankenFletch was not exactly reassuring to me, but GT seemed nice and if she thought he could help me get home, that was enough for me so I followed along. GT rolled fast and I had to run to keep up with her. We hadn't gone very far when we were approached by another metal creature that I assumed must be another "bot". He looked quite agitated and kept asking "Have you seen her? Have you seen her? Oh my darling Clemetine! She's lost and gone forever."
"Slow down Tomm-E," soothed GT. "What's the matter? Clemetine is lost you say?"
"Yes! Yes! She's lost and gone forever! I'll never get Babybot to sleep now! He just whines and whines! I must find Clemetine! Oh my darling Clemetine!" wailed Tomm-E.
"Oh dear! Don't worry Tomm-E. We'll find Clemetine. I'm sure she's just down one of the mines. We'll get AltaLuna and Bmole321 to help, " GT said with determination. "Where is Babybot right now?"
"He's with PoppyBopper, " Tomm-E replied with a little more hope in his voice.
As we started moving again, GT explained that Tomm-E was a Builder Bot and was married to Clementine, a Miner Bot. They had a new son named BabyBot, who was a Carrier Bot. Poor Tomm-E was frequently left to care for BabyBot because Clemetine worked in the mines. PoppyBopper was BabyBot's grandpa and was a Beat Bot. He was usually able to rock BabyBot to sleep with his rhythmic beat, but that must not be working this time. I had no clue what GT was talking about but pretended to follow the conversation. She went on to explain that Bmole321 was a Mole Bot and knew the mines very well. AltaLuna was a Floodlight Bot so she could light the tunnels for Bmole321 and together they should find Clementine. I tried to digest this information in my brain, but I was still tired from my own ordeal and this strange new world was the exact opposite of my serene familiar world. In fact, it was like night and day.
GT led Tomm-E and I around the outpost, pointing out the different stations. There was a Builder Zone, where I met PoppyBopper and BabyBot, a Nature Zone, where GT lived and we found Bmole321, a Repair Zone that we didn't stop at, which led us to a Performance Zone where we found AltaLuna. Then it was off to the Mining Zone where we bid goodbye to Tomm-E, Bmole321 and AltaLuna as they disappeared into the mines in search of Clementine. But, we still hadn't found FrankenFletch. I was getting more and more tired by the minute so GT suggested we stop and rest on an Azurian bench. GT spied some pit flowers nearby and went off to gather them while I rested.
Chapter 3
I could feel my eyes starting to droop and felt myself drifting off to sleep only to be started awake by the sound of music blaring over what I learned later was a Boom Blaster. This was not pleasant music. It sounded like two different songs competing for loudness. I ventured towards the sound in the hopes of making it stop. As I got closer to a Performance Zone, I could see two bots on stage singing at the top of their lungs into microphones. They were glaring angrily at each other and obviously trying to drown the other bot out. I searched around the Performance Zone until I found what I was looking for...the plug. One tug was all it took and the jarring noise ceased. I was immediately pounced upon by the two dueling bots.
"What did you do that for?"
"Who are you?"
"Excuse me Pixie! I'll do that interrogating!"
"Oh no you won't Myke! I'll do the talking"
"No! I'll do the talking!"
The two bots spoke at the same time and talked over each other and pretty soon they were both arguing so much that they completely forgot I was standing there. I could have slipped away except that GT arrived just as I was about to make my escape.
"Pixie! Myke! Stop that arguing right now! We have a guest, " GT reprimanded. "This is Maidy. A wizard from FlowerVale and she needs to get home to take care of her plants. Plants needs lots of love and attention you know. Poor dears. I just can't stand to think of them left alone."
"Hello. Nice to meet you both, " I replied quickly to steer the conversation back on track, not even bothering to correct GT on where I was from.
"Hello. I'm Pixie Wailing Pink. I'm a Rock Bot. Do you play electric guitar?" asked Pixie.
"Excuse me, " interrupted Myke. "My name is Myke. Myke Whizowski. I'm a Performer Bot. The original of the Performing Bots. All the others are hybrids you know. Little pieces of everything. But not me. Grade A original parts in this baby!"
"Original? Hmpf! I heard you found that Mic gizmo at the Battle Arena after a bot lost a fight, " argued Pixie.
"Now bots, let's just get along shall we?" coaxed GT. "What are you two arguing about anyway?"
"We are singing a duet tonight for the space people, " Pixie explained. "And Mohawk boy here, wants to sing Fly me to the Moon. BORING!"
"Boring?!? Well, Pinkie here wants to sing Let's Get this Party Started. Pffst! What kind of song is that?? " countered Myke.
"Instead of singing a duet, why don't you each sing your own song?" I interjected. Two single eyes swung my way and looked at me as if I was a specimen in a Petrie dish.
"That's a fabulously gay idea!" exclaimed Pixie.
"A fabulously gay idea indeed!" agreed Myke. "I'll go first and warm up the crowd."
"What?!? I'll go first!" argued Pixie. And so the argument began all over again. GT just rolled her eye and motioned for me to follow. And so we left the two bots to settle their argument on their own, which I don't know if they ever did.
We hadn't travelled very far, and in fact, hadn't even left the Performance Zone when I spied a bot that I just knew had to be FrankenFletch. When GT said he was the brains of the outpost, she was being quite literal. On the top of Fletch's head was a very large purple brain that pulsed as he clunked around on a nut shaped wheel.
"Here he is! Here's our FrankenFletch!" GT twittered! "He's the smartest Bot in the outpost! He's always thinking and experimenting. Did you know he came up with a special formula for fertilizing my flowers?" she gushed. I was beginning to get the impression that GT had a little crush on Fletch.
Fletch was absorbed in thought, probably solving some complicated problem in that big purple brain of his, when he finally stopped and noticed GT and I standing there.
"Oh, hello Miss GT, Ma'am," he said with a nod in each of our directions.
GT did the honors and introduced me to Fletch then explained my predicament. He closed his eyes and started to spin around in that clunking way of his and the purple brain swelled and pulsed for several minutes. I was just about to ask GT if he was off on another plane somewhere when his eyes blinked open.
"I'm afraid I do not have good news for you Maidy. There is a spaceship that arrives and departs from this outpost several times a day. However, it only travels to other outposts. The spaceship is run by the space people and unfortunately, they are not very intelligent life forms. They wander around aimlessly when they are here, then load back up on the ship to travel to another outpost only to do the same thing there. It looks like you are stuck with us here as I can see no other way back to your home." Fletch said matter-of-factly.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It just couldn't be! I could never go home again? What would I do here? How could I survive in this discordant place? GT could sense my distress and gently guided me to a Cosmo Condo so I could get some sleep. As upset as I was, sleep came swiftly and deeply. Before I knew it, several hours passed and it was morning....or was it? I couldn't tell as the sky was still black. A song came drifting through the condo window. It carried with it two very familiar voices. But it sounded good.
I ventured out to the Performance Zone and saw Tomm-E with his arm around what could only be Clemetine. BabyBot was fast asleep in his carrier at their feet, while Grandpa Poppy looked lovingly down at him.. GT, Bmo321, Poppy and Fletch were standing next to the happy couple and obviously enjoying the two on the stage. Luna directed her spotlight on Pixie and Myke while they sang "I Got You Babe" to each other on the stage. No arguing. Just harmony. It seemed they found a way to settle their differences. Everyone clapped and cheered when they finished!
It was at that moment that it hit me. This might be a very different world than I was used to, but some things were similar. The sky was always black with the same twinkling stars and asteroids floating about. I could visit other outposts that were similar to this one and the visitors were the same with the exception of their clothes. But there was one big difference here. Instead of dragons to tend, there were bots. I wasn't alone anymore. It was nice to visit friends on other outposts as I did in my beloved DragonVale, but at the end of the day, I could come home to family. An odd family to be sure. But still a very caring, loving family.
Maidy, I loved your story! Very fun and creative. I'm sure Pixie Wailing Pink's favorite lyric was, "And when I'm sad, you're a clown". It just seems so fitting. Thanks for the great read and the fun characters. You certainly nailed us. Very well done, dear!

You can tell you really put a lot of thought into it. I'm sure everyone else will love it, too.
Maidy this is an absolutely lovely story, i enjoyed every line. You are a fantastic teller, also in the sense that your description made me litterally "see" every scene. Congratulations !

Eternity, I am hoping you took over my park in my absence.
Vivianne, thank you for the kind words. Believe it or not, I tried to find a character for you. I just couldn't find a bot that fit with your name. Now that I think about it though, you could have been the Spotlight Bot. VividPilou. Oh well, I was suffering a migraine when I finished that part and my brain wasn't functioning that well by that point. LOL!
Bliss, thank you. I hope you enjoyed your little cameo in my story.
Pam, I can't wait to read your story. I don't like to read others before finishing mine either so I completely understand.

I have read many great stories, on the various threads, DV and now Gizmo. Plus, we have outstanding drawers/painters in here so, wild thought: you guys should get together and write a children s book based on DV or Gizmo (or one on each) and submit that to BSF as a side product. Just like you find all kind of stuff related to angry birds. I bet BSF would be interested. What do you think about that idea ?

I think that is a fab idea! The other games always default to stuffed toys, a book would be different and unique. Good thinking.

I did, dont worry. Kairos was hungry, so I fed him.
