Very true. We're just trying it out. People have the choice to drop out if they want to. We'll continue with this one and learn as we go.
Pixie, although I am not running the contest my inclination would be to let people breed 1 repair hybrid only, as from that they can pick a lot more combos to try, and other repair hybrids would result from continual breeding for the astro. That way they would also be on the same footing as people who started the comp on a higher level.
I like this idea, fwiw. As we don't know for sure what is required, we can't really say people haven't been trying with any specific breeding combo. Repair + a hybrid for a breeding session (or possibly more if a Repair hybird doesn't result) seems reasonable to me.
It was lungbutters idea originally, I think. My problem is I use it as a decoration around my Mining habitats.
That's easy, just put another single one next to what you want sped up, that way it doesn't obviously look like a decoration.
I use 4 of them. I have really been pushing my food..at night I load up on battery bites. The thought is that the "OTHER CONTINENTS" will speed them up for me.....1st time using the decoration was, pretty much, not noticed by anybody. So I fixed it by using more......Now it works great

The breeding sandbox said the new rule was 4 elements needed to breed the Astro. So I don't know if the earlier 3 element Astro breeding a were a glitch "bug" which has now been fixed in the game. I am one who entered the contest before having the repair zone. I bred a repair with a builder one time and got a welder which gave me the two elements to breed with my rock bot that has the other two elements. Now I breed those two consistently. If that means I am out, I can accept that.

I'm going to go ahead and make a repair hybrid. If that means I am out, that's fine. I don't want to not have a repair hybrid or a science hybrid potentially for the next couple of months while trying for Astro. I suspect that everyone else will do the same whether they say so or not.
Edit to say that I see other people who were not level 12 when the comp started have done or are currently doing the same.

A good nights sleep is a good thing. Having a full arsenal of available elements can only be a good thing, allowing contestants the best chance for success. Breeding to get a new element hybrid will be allowed, but let's agree the main focus must continue to be the Astro.

Thanks to amending that. I'm still hoping to lose this competition but would prefer to lose by getting a Gizmo rather than a technicality.

Everybody made good, valid points. This is one of those flexible things I was talking about. Have amended the op to reflect people may breed for one new element hybrid as they level-up.

Yes, at level 9 a person has 4 basic elements to work with, not including Repair. So breeding an Astro should not require a Repair bot to create, just the first 4 elements given to us - Builder, Mining, Performer and Nature. Doesn't mean Repair can't be present, just that it isn't required.
