Absolutely, just like it is so much rewarding to carry the newly bought washing machine to the first floor through the staircase and not taking the elevator ....
Well Viviane, taking that to it's logical conclusion, you must think it is better to hack the game, get unlimited gems, and just buy every dragon you want rather than breed it?
I'm going to follow up on this. I spent some time visiting many parks last night and I was struck by how many appear to be the result of jail breaking. I guess it's hard to resist forever, but it would drain the fun out of the game for me.
Please note that I'm not making a value judgement about jail breaking per se, just observing.

Have you totally lost your mind? Taking this to the logical conclusion you are standing atop your house, holding a long metal rod in a lightning storm.

It used to be so easy to identify hacked parks by the royalty living there. Haven't visited my entire list since the extremely long load times arrived, so have no idea how many of my neighbors have gone that route.

Having played pretty diligently from almost day one I can use my parks as a kind of measuring stick. Here are some of the markers that may indicate a park on a jail break machine:
o Unusually large amounts of gold coins, treats and gems - especially gems. Of course someone could just spend huge amounts of money.
o Modest means of production.
o Comparatively few dragons and habitats.
o Giant resources without having reached level 50. You inevitably reach the highest levels when you obtain things by grinding.
o Lack of design, thought and overall plan. This is perhaps the most telling one. Jail breakers don't seem to care about design or a plan - they just appear to want everything.
I have found there appears to be a bit of, umm, disingenuousness out there.

Now wait a minute, that one applies to me for sure and I haven't cheated at all.

I was thinking the same thing.
And I've got 1500 gems at the moment.
Not so many $$ and food -- but that's just because I just took a Rift Dragon from 1 to 20 in one big feeding session within the last week. Oh and a month of magic in which I bought THREE islands and cleared them.
And I'm FINALLY at 50. But it took me the whole month of magic to get there so I might have been less than 50 when you visited.

There are moments when I think I should of gone JB. I've spent far too much time, energy and (I'm embarrassed to say) money on these silly pixels. But an addiction is an addiction - what can you do? Anyone know of a DragonVale rehab center?

1500 gems would be a mere drip in the bucket in the parks we are talking about. Congrats on hitting 50!

Question about something I see in the "last call" thread. When someone puts "X+X" (or maybe X+Y) what do the numbers mean? Read the OP in the thread and couldn't figure it out. Thanks for answering my nosiness.
Here's an explaination from the Living Lexicon, which is the daringly developed dictionary of DragonVale defitions: 3+2+1: A pledge of gems for a competition, meaning three gems to the winner, two to the runner up, and one for the participant after the runner up.
Oh fudgecicle! When am I going to learn to look in the Lexicon before asking!!! Arrrrrgh! Thanks, BS! (and thanks for not strangling me)
If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all/Gloom, despair, and agony on me... {HeeHaw, 1970s - totally showing my age)
Can't get into the game, there must be some serious traffic going on... Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh
Edit: internet timed out message, but my connection is rock solid. COME ON BFS just release the dragons already!
It's all those visitors using the teleport facilities at BFS HQ.
My visitor numbers are well over triple the normal number.
Main GCID: GregDarcy Secondary: GregDarcyToo All gems friends spoken for. Happy to accept friends for party hats. I blame Apple's auto incorrect for all my typos. I actively discourage challenges. All challengers are unfriended.

Hmmm, I did revamp my egg island today, eggs now spiral in from their shrines into the hatchery, with paths between. Maybe that would account for it in park 1, but not in the second park, trying to activate Kairos.
Kindle park1: nearly all dragons are frolicking in their habitats! (A Thorny little problem to resolve...)
Smartphone park2: Geode, a dragon with rocks in! Still to breed 4 dragons...

Haha! Me too! I have the artistic nuances of a sewer rat.
I do always intend..... one day....... to make my park beautiful.....
Provaricators of the world UNITE, Tomorrow......or maybe the day after .....
I tend to distribute my spare gems to those who look like they need them so please don't feel you have to return if you get one from me!
My GN won't let me in regularly so please don't send me gizmonauts crystals. I can't use or return them!
Everyone be sure to post pics of your new light/dark islands. Interested to see what people come up with.
I'm going full on Vegas strip right now. So the dark dragons can see it from space to guide them through the rift.
I'm way behind on this board because I just went through two crappy weeks at work. Your image made me giggle, though. If you look at your baby Plasma in the Lightning Habitat on the right, it looks like an old lady wearing a pillbox hat and a fur coat because a baby Crystal is flying over its head and a baby Storm is flying across its body! After everything I've been through IRL, this totally made my day!
GCID- peanutzmom:) And yes, you need to include the smiley face
I give gems randomly to those who seem to need them because I'm not organized enough to keep a list, but I'm always looking for more Party Hat friends!

The Dark element is here! 30 billion magic has been collectively cast towards dark and the Tines are now complete. Dark Rift Dragons have been awarded to those that earned eggs.
Rift Dragon
This Rift Dragon has identical stats to the previous one.
Dark Dragon
Available at level 25, 13 hours to incubate (displayed as 10), earns 6DC at level 1 and costs 3 million DC. Along with the same Dark Hybrids made up of Plant, Fire and Earth combos.
Nightshade - Dark + Plant, level 25, 13.5 hours (displayed as 9 hours), 7DC at level 1, 900 gems, 3.15 million DC Fungus - Plant + Dark, level 25, 13 hours, 8DC at level 1, 900 gems, 3.15 million DC Cave - Dark + Earth, level 25, 11 hours (displayed as 6.5 hours), 6DC at level 1, 1200 gems, 2.6 million DC Root - Earth + Dark, level 25, 9 hours (displayed as 12.5 hours), 7DC at level 1, 700 gems, 2 million DC Dungeon - Dark + Fire, level 25, 15 hours (displayed as 12 hours), 7DC at level 1, 960 gems, 2.88 million DC Watch - Fire + Dark, level 25, 7 hours 48 mins (displayed as 8 hours), 6DC at level 1, 960 gems, 1.56 million DC
Only hybrids from the first 3 elements are available right now and they have a shiny new habitats to live in, including the Reward Habitats which don't take up a slot. The stats for these are:
Reward Habitats
"Dark Reward Habitat", Capacity 1, Cap 100 000, Size 3x3 "A testament to your work on the return of Dark magic, these tourmoline crystals resonate with dark magic. Any dragon returning through the Rift of the Scar will find this habitat comforting. Welcome home! This habitat doesn't count towards your park's habitat cap."
"Large Dark Reward Habitat", Capacity 3, Cap 200 000, Size 4x4 "Dark magic wouldn't have returned without the help of park owners like yourself. As thanks, the Wizards have rewarded you with a habitat capable of holding several dragons. Oh, don't worry about giving treates to the nibble plant. It feeds itself. This habitat doesn't count towards your park's habitat cap."
"Giant Dark Reward Habitat", Capacity 5, Cap 350 000, Size 5x5 "Congratulations! With your help, Dark magic has returned to DragonVale. The wizards have given you a reward fit for a king. Covered with phosphorescent lichen found in the Vathis Trench, this massive habitat needed extra adornment to support so many dragons. This habitat doesn't count towards your park's habitat cap."
Regular Habitats
"Dark Habitat", Level 25, Cost 7.5 million, Build Time 18 hours, Capacity 2, Cap 50 000, Size 3x3, "description": "Contrary to popular belief, sleeping on this oozy surface doesnt make your dark dragons dirty. Instead it keeps their coats shiny and clean. Then again, can you really tell when a dark dragon is dirty?"
"Large Dark Habitat", Level 28, Cost 15 million, Build Time 22 hours, Capacity 4, Cap 100 000, Size 5x5 "You'd be astonished how hard it is to work on a habitat containing so much darkness. Wizard craftsmen were constantly losing their tools only to find them several days later. After spending months crafting these spacious habitats, they recieved requests to build Giant Habitats. A wizards work is never done."
"Giant Dark Habitat", Level 34, Cost 25 gems, Build Time instant, Capacity 5, Cap 175 000, Size 6x6 "The craftsmanship needed to hold five dark dragons represents quite a feat. It was second only to building a habitat that hosts this much dark flora. Collected from the darkest regions of land and sea, these plants thrive now that dark magic has returned. WARNING: some of them look hungry."
New Decoration There's also the obligatory element flag for 1 million DC and a decoration:
"Erebus Ostracon", Level 25, 1.5 million DC, 2x2 "The Tower of Erebus was laid waste when the Scar of the World was created. After dark magic returned to our world, the young wizard Keh discovered a piece of the ancient tower. He warned his wizard parents "Don't touch it! It's evil!" but they knew better and made a beautiful decoration from it. As Keh discovered, dark magic is not evil, just misunderstood."
Notable absences There are no hybrids for Cold, Lightning, Water, Air or Metal. No doubt they will be coming soon. At present you are not able to breed a Rift Dragon or a Dark Dragon with any dragon that does not include Dark, Plant, Earth and/or Fire elements. There is also no statue (not that it is necessary any more) and no boost.
Big thanks to Gallifrey for the images.
