Very exciting to be celebrating the forum birthday. Thanks to all who put so much effort into making this a fun and informative place. No diamond for me yet but hopefully soon.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DV forums and a great big thank you to Poppy for creating such a wonderful place for us to come and chat! We loved all the fun yesterday, it was great fun and a great April fool! Also thanks to all the mods for all of their work on the forums and work in the background. We really appreciate your work.
I was able to breed my Diamond last night on the 4th try. I will post a pic tonight when I take it out of the breeding island.

This forum rose out of what amounted to a free speech movement.
Many of us were active members of another DV forum. The moderators there tended to have a heavy hand and we were often scolded for expanding the boundaries of the discussion. After I tried to start a book discussion thread they banned me for life.
So I thought why not start a new forum with a broad scope and moderators who worked for the members and guests with a spirit of Aloha. So I sat this one up.
But there was one major problem - I had no access to the other forum or to anyone there. I had an idea. I knew that a number of members of the other forum visited my park often and I used pavers to spell out my email address on one of my islands. It was spotted by Vivianne who contacted me and we had our Trojan Horse into the other forum.
Secret Agent Vivianne contacted me and that opened the doors. She had Fletch get in touch with me and he turned out to the be the major moving force at this new forum. When folks heard about this one they got increasingly mischievous at the other forum and many criticized the staff there for banning me for life. They immediately were in turn banned for life. Fletch was banned, others followed - this became the Elba of Dragonvale. As folks were banned they joined up with Fletch and me here.
It quickly became an exodus - people want to be free. We called ourselves the Cool Kids and reveled in our freedom and the ability to create the type of community that we wanted to belong to.
Now, after a year of hard work, I'm proud of the community that has been built here. We have been able to create a safe environment where there is open discussion on many topics, and always with the spirit of Aloha.
It's kind of hard to single out a few of our pioneers for their efforts as I'm afraid to that I will unintentionally omit some who deserve credit. But special thanks to:
o Vivianne, our Trojan Horse
o Fletch, really the co-founder of this forum. Fletch has a dedication and work ethic that astounds at times. And he's a pretty sharp dude.
o 250Strong for moving the Dragonvale Rare Breeding Guide here from the other forum.
o GT500Girl for her unflagging positive support of all of us here.
o Phibes74 for being one of the original (and sometimes naughty) Cool Kids
o Pixie who took the hand-off from GT5600Girl and continued the same positive approach.
o TommyB who has had us all in stitches at times with his sense of humor (that fails to disguise an unusual level of wisdom)
o The Current A-Team - Myke, Pam, Lemmyloop, Liquidc0urage, McNeeze and Debstoy, our current team of moderators who combine a sense of fun with a sense of purpose
Dragonvale is only a game, just trivial recreation. But one of my most closely held beliefs is, in this at times difficult world, that we should all try to spread love and compassion wherever we have the opportunity. We all have our spheres of influence where we can endeavor to do that. I'm grateful that this has become an international community (visitors from 155 countries) that enables us all, A-Team, members and guests, to do just that.
Now on to chasing my Diamond!

A word from "the trojan horse" ... I have to correct what Poppy modestly did not mention. The very reason why his newly created forum turned out to be a tremendous success gathering more and more DV players is undoubtedly the fact that on the former forum Poppy in no time became a star when he joined. His born charism, his humour, his kindness, in short his whole personality, enchanted all of us (oops I omitted to mention his modesty lol), and when he was banned, we were all desperate and no one wanted to stay there any longer. Finding him was not difficult and the members who, at the time, had survived, did a tremendous job in contacting others and leading them to the new forum. Thanks to Shellee who did a wonderful job. And so we started as a little group, growing quickly to the big community we now have. I would like to thank the group of mods and admins for their great work, especially Pixie-Shirley whose dedication is just fantastic. She is "the woman behind it all". Respect! For reasons I will not develope, I am quite proud she has the position she holds And of course, thanks to Poppy who, even in the background, is the leading force of the forum.
While you were all scratching your heads wondering what was wrong with the forum yesterday, we A-Team Members were taking screen shots and giggling. Here are some highlights for you to enjoy:

POTM. Has to be. Beautiful <3
I tend to distribute my spare gems to those who look like they need them so please don't feel you have to return if you get one from me!
My GN won't let me in regularly so please don't send me gizmonauts crystals. I can't use or return them!
Also, I really wanted to know what had happened, I'd seen the " other forum" shenanigans alluded to , but as I'm not one to gossip , I didn't like to ask.
So that's why it HAS to be POTM, beautifully poignant, AND informative. It works on so many levels!!
Oh and quick question, did you discover the meaning of "aloha" from "Lilo and Stitch" or did you already know it? If you already knew it you I will actually start worshiping at your alter. Even tho us Catholics really shouldn't do that. But that's how awesome you are!

Hi Jo....
Aloha is a way of life practiced by many Hawaiians. My wife and went there on our honeymoon a long time ago and I have had a love affair with Hawaii ever since. Aloha means hello, goodbye and, most of all, love and affection. And more - it's an integral part of the Hawaiian culture. Here's a definition of Aloha from Answers.com:
ALOHA is the most popular Hawaiian word known and spoken around the world. The Hawaiian word "Aloha" is among the most sacred and powerful of all Hawaiian words. Speaking it over time is said to have the power to transform one's attitude, heal one's negative emotions, and help to protect and guide one's lifetime journey.
Hawaiians really mean it. And so do I.

I have to admit I only learnt it meant more than "hello/welcome" from a certain Disney Movie, and this forumwas the first place id seen it used in the whole gambit of its meaning. In my defence I live A LONG WAY from Hawaii I intend to take my boy there some day. He's going to be looking for Stitch. I'm hoping to bump into "Dog the Bounty Hunter". His son is a hottie. Sorry, I digress

@ Viv - We thought that might be a helpful feature for keeping track. Not all the staff is able to update in real-time, but they will when they can.
A PM outbox can also help to keep track of found candles until the Leaderboard is updated.
We could have made them smaller......
Smaller ...that woman is dangerous lol And yes the PM box is useful to know whose teeth you already found. I find this chase very amusing, great idea, but must give you a lot of extra work.

Having the pm box is also useful in case one of us makes an error, which has known to happen, there is back-up proof of finding a candle.
