Howdy everyone. Being the maths nerd that I am, I am trying to get to the bottom of what the percentage chance of breeding a master bot is.
It seems almost certain that the probability for an Astro is 1%, both according to results, and the fact that it is basically GNs version of the Rainbow dragon in DV.
To finally figure out what the %age success rate is for other master bots, and to also answer the question as to whether all master bots have the same %age success, we are going to collate all results here.
Another question is whether the %age success for master bots is cumulative, which we suspect it is. This is most easily tested with combos that can produce Steam, Thermal and Astro (i.e. Grinder + Solar).
In order to participate / contribute, please complete 100 breeding attempts of ANY combo that gives a chance of BOTH Astro and at least one other master bot.
No need to record all the bots, simply the number of master bots (of each type) bred. Post a reply with your results and I (or Fletch) will add them to this post.
100 attempts of Grinder + Flower in March, 2013: Trying for Steam and Luck.
1 Steam 5 Luck 0 Astro 94 Vanilla Bots
2nd set of 100 attempts of Grinder + Flower, March, 2013.
3 Steam 6 Luck 1 Astro 90 Vanilla Bots.
Set of 100 attempts of Grinder + Bot-anist, March, 2013.
1 Steam 2 Luck 2 Astro 95 Vanilla Bots
Small sample, but it adds up to
300 attempts
5 Steams, 1.67% 3 Astros, 1% 13 Luck Bots, 4.33%
Can collate the Steam and Astro data, but the Luck bot data probably doesn't have any value of working out Limited %, unless it turns out that they all run about 5%. This seems a pretty low % for a bot available for a month, and really limits the window of breeding success for the other Master Bots, as you wouldn't think they would have a larger % of success than a limited. We will know more when the next limited is released and some serious testing can be done for the first time. Fingers crossed for a 4th of July Bot released in the next week or two.
Cheers Fletch. I think it is probably easiest to record the total in terms of what epic bots were attempted for and how many of each were obtained (see the revised OP).
But out of interest, will keep all distinct breeding pairs listed as well - only in the total will I aggregate it like that.
This will be interesting. I think we need to list some stats of trying for Masters without Astros as well, and/or only trying for Astros. It's the only way to know if the are encroaching on each other. An awful lot of data will probably be needed for that.
My results are going to really skew the Astro distribution - Only 1 Astro out of 600 breeding attempts. Got a 48 hour brewing as we speak though, so that might swing it a bit. Hope not though, I want more Nuclear!

Also, my Grinder + Botanist attempts for Luck Bot were before Thermal was introduced, so it wasn't a possibility. Have edited the OP to adjust all the totals.

I can if you don't mind slow. I have nothing else to breed for at the moment since I got my fourth hydro on my 4th attempt, and I don't want to try for any more nukes until the comp is over.

All my breeding has been in my main account - I don't have a test account.
The intent of this thread is to simply build up as much data as possible over time.
There isn't much else going on in GN at the moment haha.

I'm doing it for you, but slowly. I'm on attempt 4 at the moment. I will try to check in later this afternoon, but got 18 hr this morning. That makes for a horrible nursery clog with my hydro and astro, so I don't want to use crystals to speed it up. I want to give more time to run down on the other clocks.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, someone else doing 32 attempts in a different account shouldn't really be added to yours to make 100 attempts because it isn't consistent. I would think that you'd have to do all 100 attempts in the same account for it to be more accurate. Wouldn't it? Anyway, I'm super busy this week, but I will try and fit in 100 attempts with this combo for you.
