This will be an ever growing glossary of slang, lingo, abreviations and acronyms used by our community.
We'll be leaving this thread unlocked, so feel free to ask about any term you see cropping up in game or on the forums that might confuse you. Once we have an agreed upon definition, we'll gladly add it to the OP.
- BS and the A-Team
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aloha Spirit: Aloha is the Hawaiian term for peace (as well as affection, compassion and mercy). The Aloha Spirit is the guiding principle of our community: overwhelming goodwill, and witty humour, profound grace and compassion blended with the spice of relentless taunts. Aloha is also our modding term for "please calm dawn" on those rare occasions when a discussion gets heated or personal attacks occur.
Apoc: Apocalypse DragonA-Team: The moderator/admin staff of THE DragonVale Community. Also known as the Forum Team. Go
here and say hello.
Base Breeding Time: How long it takes to produce an egg in the Breeding Cave or EBI. This time can often give us clues as to what dragon we have before we even see the egg. But don't get too excited. You still need to put the egg in the nursery for a like amount of time before you can hatch it, display it or sell it.
Basic Dragon: The dragons of the eight basic elements: Plant, Fire, Earth, Cold, Lightning, Water, Air and Metal. These can be combined in a variety of ways to produce a large number of Hybrid dragons. However, Basic Dragons of Opposite Elements can not breed directly with one another.
BFS: Back Flip Studios, the creators of the games we are here to discuss.
Boost: Available in the Market in the Buildings section starting at level 12. Boosts provide a +20% DC/min bonus to dragons of the correct element, but impose a -20% DC/min penalty to dragons of the Opposite Element. There can be a lot of strategy and math that goes into this. Read more
here.
BS: Abbreviation for Bloodstone, the Android loving mad mod of the DV Community and the genius behind the living lexicon. [Editor's Note: no one of any import has ever referred to BS as "the mad mod". Also, for an alleged genius, he has terrible grammar and spelling] [BS's Note: Who asked you?]
Cave, The: Where the magic happens! A term for both the
Breeding Cave and
Enchanted Breeding Cave Combo: The combination of two dragons necessary to produce a target dragon. Some dragons are more flexible than others and can be produced with many different combos. Others have a combo that is partially or fully locked, meaning one or both parent dragons are required to produce the target dragon.
Cool Kid: A title awarded for a variety of reasons. Including but not limited to: members of the original exodus from the Forum That Shall Not Be Named, A-Team members (both past and present), being really awesome. [BS's Note: To borrow a phrase from Groucho Marx "I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member."] [Editor's Note: You... don't actually realize what you've just said, do you? You're just trying to sound sophisticated.] [BS's Notes: You've figured me out. Okay, help me save face here! Perhaps I should have quoted something from Harpo or Karl instead?] [Editor's Note: ...just shut up while you're ahead.]
Crown: feeding a dragon up to level 20 (the current cap). So called for the animated gold crown that appears over a dragons heads once it reaches level 20.

EBC: Enchanted Breeding Cave. Also known as "The Cave".
EBI: Epic Breeding Island. Also known as "The Island"
EBS: Epic Breeding Sanctuary. Also, also known as "The Island". [Editor's Note: ::facepalm:: ]

here.FB: Facebook. [Editor's Note: a social network on the internet where people can connect with friends and look at pictures of cats. You may have heard of it. It's kind of a thing.] It's also very important to Android and Kindle DragonVale players, as it allows them to backup their parks online and connect with one another to visit parks or exchange gems. As FB isn't platform specific, it is the only way that Android, Kindle and iOS players can play together.
Food: a common term for the Treats we feed to our dragons. [BS's Note: The editor is an insufferable troll. Do not feed the trolls] [Editor's Note: You know, I read everything you write. It's what you pay me to do.]
Gem Shower: a community effort to provide gems to a forum member that is struggling to get one or more limited dragons. For more info, go
hereGCID: Game Center ID, which is ones username on the Game Center social gaming service. Game Center allows players to backup their parks online, connect with one another to visit parks or exchange gems, compare rankings and show off achievements. Game Center is exclusive to iOS players. [Editor's Note: Removed angsty complaints from BS about his lack of a GCID] [BS's Note: I would never say such a thing. This is slander!][Editor's Note: Actually, this is a printed medium, so it's libel.]
Gild: The act of turning a Shrine from Silver to Gold, either by raising 50 dragons of the correct element from level 10 to level 15 or by spending gems.
GN: Gizmonauts. Another BFS game similar to DV in many ways and currently exclusive to iOS. [BS's Note: The Editor is a
jerk really hoppy frood]

here, is a reference to both his vast love of the wordy things never being used in not right ways and his countries sordid history with the Weapon X program.

Epic Breeding Island and

Koala: forum slang for luck, particularly of the good variety. You can read more about it
here.LC: Abbreviation for Liquidc0urage, who should be taunted when whining just isn't doing the job.
Limited Dragon: Any dragon that is only available for a limited amount of time, oftentimes coinciding with a specific season, month, astrological event, holiday... or really anything else that suits the Wizards fancy. This term encompass a large variety of Hybrid, Epic and Gemstone Dragons. Check out
this awesome thread so you can plan ahead. [Editor's Note: Another self plug? Have you no shame?] [BS's Note: Sh-aim? Never heard of it, but if you give me a definition I'll add it to the Lexicon.]

Opposite Dragons: A set of eight dragons that can only be bred by combining a Basic Dragon with a Hybrid Dragon containing its Opposite Element.
Opposite Elements: Elements that naturally oppose one another:

Panlong Strategy: breeding many Panlong Dragons in an effort to maximize a parks DC earning. Previously there were two major variants, the
Panlong Waterpark Strategy and

Rainbow/LYD Strategy: breeding many Rainbow Dragons and/or Leap Year Dragons in an effort to maximize a parks DC earnings. You can read about it

RL/IRL: Real Life / In Real Life. The stuff we do between raising dragons and posting on forums about raising dragons. Reduced Breeding Time: A 20% reduction in Base Breeding Time when using either the EBC or EBS. For example, a dragon with a Base Breeding time of 10 hours will have a Reduced Breeding Time of only 8 hours. [Editor's Note: Could you be more obtuse?!?] [BS's Note: Yes?] [Editor's Note: That wasn't a request. You know what is a request though? You defining "Base Breeding Time"] [BS's Note: Fine, fine... But since the list is alphabetized it's quite unlikely that this conversation will make any sense once they get down here...]
Sandbox, The: The
DragonVale Breeding Sandbox, developed by r0b0-tr0n. The place to go to experiment with Combos. [Editor's Note: It's awesome and you should totally check it out.] [BS's Note: For once we agree! Perhaps your'e not such a bad guy after all?]

Solstice Dragon Strategy, this involves breeding many Solstice, Blue Moon, Lunar Eclipse and/or Solar Eclipse Dragons in an effort to maximize a parks DC earnings. BS is a slacker] [BS's Note: I was wrong. The Editor is still a miserable toe rag] [Editor's Note: I'd be a lot less miserable if you had learnt proper grammer, spelling and punctuation before taking on this endevor. Also, toerag is one word, not two.]
