If DV comes to an end it would be great if we could download a local version. That version wouldn't have updates anymore but we could keep our dragons and look at our parks.
I'm getting weak - I think I will buy the island. I only need those 900 MEs....

I love the look of the egg island, but my girlfriend and I don't like having to spend money to purchase it. With all of the other events, it has been possible to reach the final goal without spending money, but I don't like the way they are heading with this new event model. I know this is a company that needs money to operate, and we have purchased gems over the last year to help support this game.
I just think how I felt when I played pet society - I loved that game I spend hours collecting coins to get rare things - I also put real money in when I wanted something desperately - then all of a sudden the games gone - all those hours and hard earned cash - it's a little sad when that happens - I'm careful now I don't spend real cash on a wim - don't think I will for the island
Which brings up something that I'm curious about...
When they end DV will the game simply disappear? Or will you be able to view it and not play it? It would be nice to have a souvenir - perhaps the ability to capture a screenshot of the full game and print it up. Or Hasbro could offer to create high quality prints for a fee. Would be a nice way to take care of players and generate revenues at the same time. Maybe even a package deal with a stufftie of yor favorite dragon.

I haven't played Gizmonauts, but I've heard from other players on this forum who have played it, and it seems to me that BFS has simply dropped support for the game without updating it, but also without pulling it from the store. I'm guessing DV will probably go the same way when it ends.
If I do the Math, it was 3950 eggs total, after handing over the first free magic of 50.. That would be the total for all prises with island. 3950.
Event is 17 days. Average 200 per day, with two double magic weekends, players may be short 300 at most of magic, without buying.
yes its 300 short magic eggs short of the island. What happens to that magic? I also don't think it will be less than the standard 50 gem
purchase that we all find ourselves needing a time or two , or you have a lot of generous friends.
if the game needs 2.00 to stay active, I think its worth it. No one is forcing you to pay for it.
But the daily cap isn't 200, it's 120-135, which is a big difference when you multiply by 17. Not including the purchase I made last weekend, I think my total tally by the end of the event would only be 3090/4000 eggs.

After getting my 2nd Ovalith I have been saving all my magic eggs without putting them to island (so I know pretty much exact figures on what I would need to buy).
At the moment I have 530 eggs with another 500 possible before the end of the event (assuming I get gold medals in the colosseum). That still leaves me with little over 900 more eggs to buy.
Pity the Australian App Store is charging 30% more for purchases, so $12.99
For all those that haven't kept track of your eggs amount : you can "read" from the stained glass how much eggs you've turned in allready. For every full 200 MEs there are 2 coloured triangles.
There are 20 pieces. Each one is 100 gem thresholds.
This is all very helpful. For those wondering, it seems that the stained glass does add in quanta of 200 as Crumble said. I just turned in 50 eggs from gold at the coliseum, and my unstained panes dropped from four to two.

I am sorry costs are out weighing the enjoyment of the game for some, but lets be positive and hope that they extend the hunt a few more days. It has happened before, right?
I have about 1/4 left on the progress line just a cm across the 5th rocky curve on the thermostat! Handed in all magic for the day & week. and still see the 2 for 1 basket deal for 400 magic eggs for $4.99, as my largest purchase option.
All games cost but I agree with the members about the memories from playing Dragonvale. My grandson who was only 3 yo,when we started, knew all the breeding combos and we had lots of fun, but he has now moved on to skylanders, and that can get pricy for the action figures.
I still love the game. There is always another new dragon to get & the egg to display, if that's your thing(I love the eggs display almost as much as the dragons) I am at level 55 max but I don't see why it would shut down until all your dragons reach level 20.

Thanks Poppy I admit, i have invested quite above reason in DV, but ... I do not have any other costy luxury so ... What the heck. I must say that if they replace DV with another version (more profit making for them probably) i will not turn to that and would be very very upset if they just cancel DV or delete it. Even if there is nothing to breed or add anymore, i like looking at this little fantasy world and observing all the dragons and wizards/visitors. I know, DV probably takes a lot of servers room and they could use it for some other game(s) and make the money Hasbro is expecting, but they won t have me as a customer anymore, and this would probably also be the case for other DV players.
Ditto for me too. I suspect DV will go the same way as Gizmonauts. That is still sitting there and playable. There is just no new content, and even the holiday bots they have already developed do not return. I know two people still actively playing, and I play, but just to send them crystals & the occasional speed up when our stars align.

Yep. If they handle it the same. It's why I was sad when GN ended since I started playing after the limiteds expired, so there was no way to ever get them.

The only hope would be if they shut it down in BEB mode. That was never an option for GN.

That's good to know. I.haven't turned mine in since getting the second dragon. I wanted to keep track.
I thought they were only referring to purchased eggs to compensate for not knowing exactly how many you need to get the final prize.
At my age I'm aware that just about everything is ephemeral unless you're a pyramid architect...

As for myself, rather than seeing this as purchasing a thing, I see it as paying for an experience -- just like going to a movie. One gets nothing in hand with either. Hopefully though, one enjoys the experience of watching that movie, just like they enjoy playing DV -- and may even enjoy DV more by having the island. (Goodness knows how many times I have spent money on a movie or something for the purpose of pleasure / entertainment and not actually enjoyed it.)
This is my third year playing DV. The first year I bought gems a couple of times. Last year the only money I put in was 99 cents for the magic event. So this year I feel it's about time I could put in a few more bucks. I really do already enjoy the game, and having more land would be a very nice treat.
