There's a word in the EU that they've never translated: "acquis". We learn as we live (acquire). It refers to experience and wisdom acquired. Differences and new input are assets.

Hello Gloca salut! I tried the french version of DV when it came out, i,e, was imposed the french version by the game. And was horrified, not so much by the texts translation but the dragon' s names translation. I did not know any more who was who, who to combine with whom ... Some new dragon came out, on forums and wiki they were talking about it and I could not relate with that french named dragon. I am probably not the only one who faced that problem, many players are used to the english names of the dragons, i would not have translated that bit. I very quickly switched back to english when this was made possible. The texts in DV relate to various cultural facts, be it history, geography, fantasy litterature, thus shared by people worldwide. But frankly, you read them once and hardly return to read them again. Some "jokes", funny sentences are just impossible to translate, they loose their "pointe". The only really usefull translated texts are those explaining procedures, how to etc. However, I value the effort made by BFS to provide foreign users with various languages.

Dragon brise-terre (Earthquake dragon for the English-speaking) -- I rather like that. Makes sense when the baby looks as though it's using a hydraulic drill as a pogo stick. But nobody ever gets "Shimmering Faultline". I've wondered if that was because nothing quite shimmered in Spanish.
At least your translator seems to have played around somewhat. Ours didn't.

I agree. But you probably have to be "born" into the game in the other language -- and there's no guarantee you'll play well in English.

In German we have the same word for kite and dragon : "Drachen" In which the mythical creature is "der Drache" and the kite is "der Drachen" But nobody pays attention to this small difference and so the dragon is also titulated "Drachen" (I also had to look this up in a dictionary)
BFS named the Kite dragon Spieldrachen-Drache When I hear "Spieldrache" I figure a plush toy dragon.
PS. people who want to stress that they are modern or people that do kiting as hobby use the word kite too.

I live in the USA and speak fluent English and am learning Japanese. My family is from Hawaii, so we have a mix of both Pidgin and Japanese in our modern day English.
It was mentioned the other day about how difficult it can be for non-English speaking players to sometimes understand the translations in the game. We know we have members from all over the world, but how many languages are represented? We'll keep track here in the original post. Please list your country and non-English language if would like to participate.
So far besides English, we have the following languages represented: Spanish French German Brazilian Portuguese Hawaiian Creole English (Pidgin) Vietnamese

Well, there's loads of new members, loads of new languages, and a lot more fun too be had!
Ok, so if you want to know what I can speak, then I suppose I could perhaps stumble along with French (have learnt it at school for 11 years now...), I'm pretty good at Latin (one of my personal favs) and I'm a beginner (less than one year) at Ancient Greek. As much as Ancient Greek is the most challenging, it is also the most fun, I find. Plus it means that myself and my 6 close friends (the only others who do Ancient Greek) have a kind of secret language You know, for communicating in secret... I plan on learning Spanish and German as I get older, but at the moment 3 is enough.
Which I guess means myself, Greg and Flutterbye could all speak Latin on the forum behind your backs... Except it would take us 20 minutes to compose each sentence And don't even try google translate, all we have to do is do some typical Latin mixing up of word order and you won't have a clue what we are on about!
I won't tag specific people, but all those who haven't seen or posted here, let's here some more about you and your language knowledge!

I live in Sweden and speak of course Swedish ☺️ As some of the Scandinavian languages are nearly the same I speak and understand Norwegian and Danish. Besides English I speak German and a bit French. (French i easier to understand than speak for me.)
Just saying Icelandic sounds so cool.... no pun intended.
