Another Good Tip for the Dragonvale Community for the Firefly Event. I actually discovered this by accident. Rather than finding ALL of the Party Hats (3 per friend) at the same time ... Give this a try. Once you capture all 3 Party Hats from 5-7 different friends (accumulating +20 Fireflies), go back to your friends list and pick-up where you left off (approximately 3 - 4 hours later). I was able to get an additional + 20 Fireflies using this method. At this time I do not know if you can keep repeating this process to get even more Fireflies over a 24 hour period, but it's worth a try. Continued luck and perseverance during this event.
Just wondering, but has the game been laggy for anyone else since the new update? Specifically, it takes a little time for the DC/treat alert bubbles to appear and disappear?
Yeah, it's just the same for me ( as it was with the other events too). Also my game tends to crash now I think my ipad2 is at the end with this game. It helps a bit to shut it down completely before playing. Hope this will be better again when the event has finished.

That is probably because a new 24-hour clock started while you are waiting for 3-4 hours. My 24 hour clock for friends resets around 9:35 pm every day. I can get three party hats and 4 FFs from my friend at 9:30 pm (assuming that I did not visit my friend for the last 24 hours) and can get another party hats and 4 FFs at 9:40 pm.
I haven't seen this mentioned yet. I've been playing DV since day one so I've got almost all upgrades and all dragons (the dang Hydra is still eluding me though) and lots of coins. As such, it isn't particularly valuable to me to spend gems speeding up my breeding (i.e. I don't need more cash or multiple attempts to breed limiteds). I've saved about 700 gems since the last event depleted me so I'm maximizing their value by buying two huge habitats and then selling them back. At 25 gems each with resale value of 10 gems, I can buy 2 huge habitats a day to get 40 ffs for a net expenditure of 30 gems. Nice little discount.
Also, while the google docs tracking sheet mentioned previously is cool, I found it more convenient to download a free Tally app with multiple counting categories to my phone. I have counting categories for eggs, habitats, food, gems, and friends that I just tap on my phone as I play on my iPad. With a final category where I store the starting ff bank value in the morning it's easy to keep track of where I haven't finished my full category collection throughout the day. [

WELCOME SKITCH!
Great giant habitat strategy! The only addition I wanna add there is that for people who don't have enough gems stockpiled to spend 30 gems a day buying and selling large plant habitats, buying 1 a day is technically the most efficient. (30 gems for 40 ffs VS 15 gems for 25 ffs)
I'm actually going to start doing the 1 habitat method some days. Thanks . I was also planning on speeding up hatchings when my nursery is full and my eggs aren't going to hatch before my ff reset. (if I haven't filled my 40 ff quota). And I'm gonna throw a lot of gems toward breedings, cuz I want my goly for my shiny dragonarium. But I'm gonna all out do the 30 gems for 80 ffs every double magic day. As I recommend everyone should Again, thanks Also I'm gonna try the tally app now haha. I could tell the spreadsheet wasn't gonna work for me, but the tally app sounds nice. Thanks, and judging from your first post, I think I and others will enjoy your contribution here Welcome!
Yeah, I wish they allowed 50 ffs per day from gems to maximize the exchange value, but in my situation I'm willing to accept the diminishing returns for the second habitat. Glad you found the tip useful, and thanks for the warm welcome (I've been toying with the idea of making a real account...)

Wow, the giant habitat idea is brilliant! Right now I'm burning gems by finally upgrading my gemstone islands, but will do the giant habitat thing after that.
Just wondering, but has the game been laggy for anyone else since the new update?
Yes. I have also been having a bit crashing upon regular play, when I never used to have. Even worse, I have a LOT of crashing when trying to visit friends to collect party hats for the FF event. With all the crashes, and the long length it time it takes for the thing to load each time, it takes FOREVER to actually get through the friend islands fro the fireflies. This is incredibly annoying and frustrating, and I hate it.
When BFS first announced this event I was really looking forward to it! I also don't mind spending a bit of money for entertainment, and coughed up the $10 for the island in the Easter event. However, all this frustration and wasted time is not something I find entertaining.
I just thought up an improvement on the giant habitat method. So the original is 2 habitats= -30 gems, +40 ff
BUT if you buy and sell 1 habitat, then use 15 gems for speeding up your caves or nursery, you achieve the exact same result, with the added benefit of getting to speed stuff up. so it's -15 gems for habitat, -15 gems for speeding, +25 ff for habitat, +15 ff for speeding. same totals
Hi everybody! It's sure been a long time since I last posted here. I'm actually really excited for the event, but sadly I just got home from a vacation without consistant internet, so I missed about a day's worth of FFs. I haven't experienced any lag issues or crashing so far, so I hope it continues that way :-). If it becomes neccessary I will pay for the Twilight Tower, for sure. I didn't do it for the Easter island, but the ability to change day to night and back is something I've wanted for a long time (and I would much rather pay for something awesome like that than for a tiny bit of extra space).
I'm surprised not many have mentioned the looks of the Dawn and Dusk dragons. I think they are really good, and they will surely become personal favorites of mine.

Wow, that is genius. And it gets even better if you spread them out over the days. On the double weekend days, that's gonna be 15 gems for 50 fireflies. This is going to save me so many gems. Thank you!

Hm. For me, it's kinda the opposite. The Lost Island is useful as a place to put the other easter stuff. Space is at such a premium when you have all the habitat slots and you want to decorate too.
The Twilight Tower really just swaps your park's backdrop. It looks neat and all, but it is something I could very easily live without if money was required.

Don't worry. I think I've said huge habitat a few times myself. Well glad u did! I remember my days of being a guest. The only merit is you can occasionally hijack another guests persona if your feeling mischievous >. But I think you'll find that it was a good idea to make an account

If you do not have or do not want to spend too many gems, I recommend you to wait for the double FF days. You would get 80 FFs for 30 gems.
I really like the look of the dawn of the dusk, I have to admit the duck dragon looks SO cool! At the moment I am 85 FFs into the dawn dragon. That's the 550 FFs + 250ffs at the start and my 80 which is 785 so far. This is my third ff day, so I should be at around 850, so I'm nearly at my cap. I get no obstacle bonuses, and half the gem bonuses, which means I lose 30 a day. If their are 2 double weekends, I will lose 900 FFs, which means although I will miss the tower, which I don't really mind about, I will get the celestial tower! Good news for me!

Update for generating +20 Fireflies by spacing out collecting Part Hats from friend by 3-4 hours: I did some extensive tests from 11:00pm Arizona Time (when my fireflies reset) through 4:30am. I was unable to reproduce this same result. I know for certain that it worked yesterday, but I do regret to inform you that this must have been a one time glitch. Sorry, but koala with the fire fly event.
