Now, this is going to be embarrassing for me, and I would totally understand if the fellow mods choose to remove me from my mod position. When I first started playing DragonVale, I sort of... hated it. (*cue gasps*)
It was in July 2012. I'd just met up with some friends from university, and one of them was playing DV and needed gem friends. While we were in university, our group had been crazy into Farmville, the Facebook game. My friend now told me that DV was basically Farmville, but with dragons. So I went ahead and downloaded the game, played through the tutorials. But I didn't really love it. I thought that the dragon images weren't quite high-res enough for the iPad, and the treat farm didn't make much sense to me. Shouldn't the treat-to-DC ratio be higher, the higher you go? But I continued playing, since my friend did invite me to play, and I thought it wouldn't be nice to just drop the game so quickly.
I think I wasn't too attached to the game, since I'm a major completionist, and at the time I started playing there were already so many limited dragons I'd missed out on, like the Leap Year or the Love. I figured that since I wasn't going to get all the dragons, I wasn't going to bother too much about it, only focusing on getting all the elemental dragons.
And then BEB happened. I realised that this was my chance to catch up on all the limited dragons I didn't have, and I think this was when I decided to try for other epic dragons like the Olympuses.
At some point my friend who introduced me to the game dropped out. But obviously, by then I had already become hooked onto the game. My goal was to breed one of every dragon and distribute them into the various habitats which would fill up at the same rate. I used the strategies page on the DV Wiki to find out which boost and which dragons should go on which island. I also visited this forum often, but only reading up on tips and tricks, lurking around as an unregistered guest.
I officially joined the forum during the Rift Event, when there was so much discussion as to how best to achieve all the rewards from the event. I think initially my plan was to equally distribute my magic between Light and Dark, but reading this forum convinced me that I should focus on Light, since that was what majority of the players were going for. It worked; I got my Giant Reward Habitats for both Light and Dark, although not without seriously risking some carpal tunnel from buying and selling bushes!
After joining the forum, and after receiving 3 of each Rift dragon plus egg pedestal, I decided to shift my plan towards breeding for 2 plus egg for each dragon. It isn't exactly easy, but it has certainly kept my interest in the game! And now here I am, still constantly strategising over the game with every new change BFS makes. What a complete turnabout from my beginnings in the game, eh? I'm glad that I've found a community in this forum; it convinces me that I'm not the only crazy one obsessed with digitally-created fictional creatures. If I may be so bold, I might even say some here are even crazier than I am!
So thank you, BFS, for countless hours of procrastination, for taking my money and making me enjoy it, and of course, for bringing us together through the game that is DragonVale.
