So let's have a Poll about the Gemstone Dragon. I'm asking these questions:
Will there be one combination for all Gemstone Dragons, will there be a few combinations for the 12 dragons (according to season, or type of gem, or any other criteria you can think of) or will there be a different combination for all 12 Gemstone Dragons?
Will some of the dragons have different breeding times?
Will some of the dragons have different buy/sell/XP rates?
Will some of the dragons have different gem earning rates?
You can answer 4 times in the poll, and any posts here with your thoughts are welcomed.

I chose: Different combinations because I'm still convinced crystal + lichen was supposed to represent the Andes. Different breeding times (depending on the amount of days in the month). Same buy/sell/XP rates. Same gem earning rate (it wouldn't be logical if they stimulate getting a full collection).

Same opinion on all points. However, and this point is not foreseen in the poll, i guess that all combos will have Crystal as a basis element. Second element will differ from month to month.

As each gem is each very unique in its very own way...where its found how its formed, it's value, ect. I believe that each one will be individually unique in how it is breed, the time it takes, and the amount it generates.
We will end the gem quest on diamond..for the April gemstone. I do not think this is random or a mistake. The diamond is the most valuable of the stones and would make sense to earn more gems from it. All that said, for me, only time will tell. I enjoy the adventure and the hunt. Before looking to the boards for breeding combos I always try to see what I can figure out on my own first. This somehow gives me a sense of adventure.

A good point. But the Sun and the Moon are vastly different objects, one being a cold, inert hunk of rock, the other being an enormous ball of gasses undergoing nuclear fusion supplying all the energy for our solar system and being the very source of life. Yet their dragon counterparts are both created with the same combination of elements, just at different times and they earn the same rate. Birthstones are far more similar than the sun and the moon.
I will not rest until I have at least one convert. Or ... you know ... June 1st. lol

I really think they'll have breed times according to their month. Feb would be 28, for example.

That's a valid point, but who is to say the game will still be around in 4 years. That's a LONG time in this sector. If it is, I'm sure it will have evolved in something far different then it is now. With the gemstone dragons they show that they'll at least expect the game to pull another year

You know, considering the ongoing trend of mystery box/egg/pack blabla it's only a matter of time until they release on of these with a rare shot at a leap year dragon. They can't let people wait 4 years for them, 'cause most people won't...
Bah I don't like it, but seeing Dragonvales popularity, it's going that way for sure...
Considering that BFS brings at the same time a set of dragons covering 12 months AND a new feature enabling to display eggs resulting from fails, it seems logical that players will want to display a collection of all eggs. Now, if the combo for gemstone dragons is allways the same, the fails will allways be resulting in the same range if eggs and it is no fun. With different combos, you should be able to enlarge your collection with each new gemstone ... (of course this does not take into account players like me who wants everything NOW and will have their collection finished or near finished when the next gemstone comes out)

I think part of the excitement is to be able to find out the right combo, well, at least the first hour... Afterwards is known all over internet! So I think it would be too boring to have the same combo for all dragons. Besides, that first hour probably means tons of gems spent trying for different combos, I don't think BFS will let go on that!
What I don't think is that rares will be included in the new combos, even lesser rares as sandstorm or frostfire, cause that would be a real pain for lots of people who would have to struggle to get the rare first and then struggle to get the gemstone dragon. A little bit too much, if you ask me.

Another good point. But, Gemstone Dragons will not be the only ones we're breeding for during the year. Plenty of other dragons, with other breeding combinations, with other fails will be about. The genius of the birthstone is that for all the new players there will be a Gemstone dragon for them when they start at any point and they'll have 12 months of fun ahead of them
Everyone keeps saying the next dragon will be pearl. Why should it? I think it's much more logical for Backflip to do the coulours of the Gemstone Island first. That would be Ruby, Topaz and I have no idea how purple gems are called. Don't you agree?
Because the birthstone of June is the pearl and because backflip has already said that the pearl is next on the loadscreen of Dragonvale. It IS a pearl dragon
