I am maxed out with gem friends (I give 6 daily) but would graciously accept any eggs given.
I'm currently at 3442, not having redeemed any yet, and plugging along by tapping party hats, seeking out the egg (luckily have found it daily by zooming in), questing, collecting, etc. I missed out on Goody's Treatery for the Season of Goodies so I want to get the Relic of the Epics this event. We shall see... the event ends the day before my birthday, so maybe it will happen.
I'm waiting. It's hard, since I only need 50 or so to have ready ethe first Monolith dragon. But there is nothing else I can do that wouldn't make me lose eggs if it's a double weekend.
You can hatch/sell dragons and visit friends without being afraid of losing eggs. If a double eggs start you just can visit one more friend and get 10 more eggs and you van hatch/sell more dragons (If you have enough ready eggs) for another 40 eggs. You also can clear more obstacles - but this is only recommended if you have enough of them to clear. And you can spend more gems (if you are willing to do so) I don't know what's with the quests but I think they will act like hatching/selling dragons. The only egg income points that won't let you get to the full double are colosseum, finding the hidden egg, harvesting treats and collecting from habitats. So, in your situation I would hatch/sell and clear the quest to get the monolith dragon. If we will get another double weekend later you will be able to get more eggs from hatching. Be sure to have a free nursery place for the Monolith though, or else you can't profit from it.
What I want to know is : what is with the limit of eggs resulting from gifted gems/food ? If I collect gems now and get eggs up to the daily cap for this (120) and there will be doubles later, will I then be able to collect more of the gifted eggs ?
Thanks for the tips. I will keep it in mind.
Really happy with my gorgeous avatar by ElektronX! GCID: Andr3i4 Any and all friends for Cooperative Breeding are welcome. Gladly accepting any twins also.
3 of us have posted now to say we're getting more eggs than we can cash. Can I suggest we start two lists of "have too many" "have not enough" so we can start gifting the people that need the help.
I'm just over, by three gifts. ceme , BigZ and dragoncollector please redirect your gifts to the more needing! Thanks!
I've been keeping records of my quest results, and after 36 quests of an average 6.3 hrs, I have received 220,000 Treats, 2.6M DC and 162M XP. It has cost 1.7M to enter, and about 1.2M million in lost dragon 'earnings', but that food is worth 11M DC, so well worth doing. And of course, it gets eggs. I hope the quests keep going after the event is over. It's a minor extra income source, but worthwhile. And the XP has lowered my path to L65 by a couple of days.

You did not keep track of the MEs?
I only keep track of the MEs and nothing else. My number is skewed today. Hold off a 2hr quest (got 2 eggs) since last night till 10:30 BFS time today, had 3 continuous 2hr quests (6 eggs), and just got 13hr quest...timer will reset in about 3 hrs.
Some friends touch your heart in a way that you can never erase.

I am getting over each day so if any of my buddies want to gift to help that's fine
I am thinking that during the event the only way to get more Monolith Dragons is by breeding two Monolith Dragons together.
Perhaps after the event that will change like it seems to be with Snowflake Dragons after the new breeding limitation adjustment after The Gathering of Roses event.
Just got my first Monolith into the nursery, which currently has 3 epics tying it up, and I have fresh 26 & 28 hrs in the cave and island. I can hopefully start breeding with Berry in ~14 hrs.
Got my first Monolith this morning. Three breedings with Berry so far with no success. Any documented success for this combo?
Thanks, Poppy
Had been breeding Monolith lvl10 and Berry lvl10 on the Island with nary a Monolith to be seen. Switched the Berry to a Celtic lvl10 and did manage to get a Celtic after Celtic had already expired.
Although I think Bane may be correct in assuming that there is one set of rules during the event and it changes after the event, I remembered that with Snowflake I did have better luck in the Cave with lower level dragons. Just tried Monolith lvl10 in the cave with a Berry lvl4 and bred either a Meadow or Swamp. I'll let you know if I see any success.
Should have added that with lvl10 Mono and Berry I was getting breed times of 9 hours plus - didn't like the three Geodes! So at least switching to the Cave with a lower level Berry has the breed time going lower which is a step in the right direction.

Sheesh. This event has really got me on a downer with DV at the moment!. Haven't even got the habitat yet. Not enjoying playing recently at all.
However. I have finally purchased the tree. So have 2 gem(and therefor extra egg) spaces going for grabs. I pop on most days. I'll post in the gem exchange too anyway.

Hi all, I have been lurking on this board long enough.
Some history : I've been playing DragonVale since shortly after it was released. Hmm, that's enough I guess.
I love the positive attitude of so many on this board, like Fletch and the other admins. That's what prompted this post, to say thanks to you guys.
I am enjoying this event, because I am able to spend the maybe 30 to 45 minutes a day playing the game, to get the eggs.
What has really helped is a rather rough hand-drawn paper spreadsheet that I carry around with me, that lets me easily see where I am at with the eggs. It sort of looks like this (but with more rows and columns):
13-4
14-14
15-4

party hats
10
20

treats

I never get maxed out gifts, so I am open to receiving them : i am on iphone : onejoebloggs in my gamecentre account.
Platform : ios GCID : onejoebloggs I love the Double Leap Year dragon
I'm trying to think of the advantages of the final prize. Most of the big ticket items that come along are paid for with gems. As Poppy said awhile back, she has tons of DC and nowhere to spend it. What is the advantage of epics at higher than 500 DC per minute? What am I missing?

It will be a tremendous boost to those who have a goal of raising all dragons to L20. Of course, they will need to collect more often. Until BFS bring out new giant epic habitats anyways. And for those who want a complete orb collection, it is now possible.

Thank you for that explanation; makes sense. I would never have thought of that .... I still feel faint whenever I need to feed a dragon from level 16 to 17!
