I'm trying to think of the advantages of the final prize. Most of the big ticket items that come along are paid for with gems. As Poppy said awhile back, she has tons of DC and nowhere to spend it. What is the advantage of epics at higher than 500 DC per minute? What am I missing?
I've had this idea for a long time that it just might be possible to crown an adult if every eligible dragon. A while back that seemed pretty much impossible,, but now the ability to produce GC at such high rates makes it seem remotely possible. I haven't sat down and done the math on it because I like to keep part of the game on the right side of my brain. But at this point I have 50+ crowned dragons, all Light dragons are at 19, and all others are at 18. The ability to raise levels of Epic dragons is a two edged sword, but one edge seems sharper than the other. Higher levels enable higher GC production but if the maximum level is raised to 20 there will be a lot more dragons eligible for crowns. I think the second factor may keep the goal of crowning them all forever out of reach, so I'm hoping they will max out at 15.
Level 20 for Epics woukd be bad for me. Because, other than buying treats and feeding dragons, there isn't much else to do with GC. The occassional extra island of course but I'm not sure how long that can last as it's going to get cumbersome. The carrot in front if the donkey aspect of DV is fine for awhile - a long while in my case (especially stubborn and dense donkey) - but it only works as long as the donkey thinks he can reach the carrot.

Hey GregDarcy, are you trying for ovalith? Have you had any success?
If you mean that person who has quit the game. Yes he is. He has had tremendous success too: One single, two double rainbows, Innumerable Olys of various shades and backgrounds. Ovaliths impossible to count. That's what he says. But we all know he's arithmetically challenged. He can't even count to zero.

Swords and carrots. Love a good post with a couple of metaphors.
I am maxed out with gem friends (I give 6 daily) but would graciously accept any eggs given.
I'm currently at 3442, not having redeemed any yet, and plugging along by tapping party hats, seeking out the egg (luckily have found it daily by zooming in), questing, collecting, etc. I missed out on Goody's Treatery for the Season of Goodies so I want to get the Relic of the Epics this event. We shall see... the event ends the day before my birthday, so maybe it will happen.
Friend request sent.
Thanks fletch gem/ eggs gratefully received as three of my gem partners seem to have stopped playing in thiis event. Have just managed to get my first monolith largely due to using gems to speed up getting the new island. Hope for more success later today byfollowing your tip and try breeding monolith with a summer.
I just recieved my first Monolith, with no leftover eggs. After I had clicked the "Special gift from Backflip", my game crashed. Now the dragon's gone without a trace. Poof.
Has anybody else had this problem? Should I contact support?

Yes. This is definitely a job for BFS support.

You are welcome. I've got enough eggs to cover me for the next 5 days, so anyone reading this who might have going to gift to me, please send a friend request this way instead.
Also, it's not my tip to breed a second Monolith by pairing your first with a limited epic. I don't think this will work until I hear confirmation from someone that it has. Perhaps the rules will change after the event, but I wluld breed for other things unless you have no dragons left to chase.

It appears that the problem fixed itself, because the egg just appeared in my nursery. Weird.
I noticed on a friend's park that Mono #1 takes up the entire habitat and wondered how all 4 will fit, since they don't seem to have the ability to fly. Then I read a post that they are low earners like snowflakes so decided I either had to buy another habitat, which I am maxed out on or let them stomp around on top of themselves.... My solution was to level my first to level 5; he fits nicely, has his "grown up" look and has room to stomp around with his future friends. Pitiful earning rate however. Maybe one day there will be an option in the fountain of youth to go back to childhood instead of infancy...

It is a good thing that person has quit the game. I seem to recall during the aurora camp that the two of us suggested having an ovalith breeding contest when it next came around. After I don't even know how many olys, snowys, a solar eclipse or two, arctics, and who knows what else...
I guess I'll soon have room to turn in those eggs for the first monolith dragon.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...

Mixing metaphors is under-rated and can be very powerful. For example, if I can't reach the carrot I can at least lop off a bit with my sword.

I've had this idea for a long time as well - though for two of every dragon, baby and adult, to 20. How long this would take, and how to optimize earnings for it, have been discussed a ways ago (see this thread).
I've a spreadsheet where I've been tracking how much I've been earning vs how much is left to go. I've enough cash/treats/gems to level 116 dragons to 20. This is roughly 40% - equivalent to $61B saved. This would be pretty close to one of every adult dragon to 20 already.
If I earn roughly $130M a day from now I'll be done at the end of 2016 (~650 days). If they raise the level cap again (so you can trade gems for even more DC) it'll take less time. If you had a LOT of people gifting you gems every day, it'd also go a lot quicker.
I haven't had the time to accurately calculate the effects of level 15+ epic dragons on me yet. I want to get those to max level as well, and it only adds to the total. However, the wiki says double rainbow earnings will go from $500 at level 10 to $732 at level 15. Some quick back of the napkin calculations show that since it takes $31M to make that jump from 10->15, it'll take 95 days to recoup that $31M. It's 153 days for my other main earners, solar eclipses/blue moons/solstice etc.
Given that I've got 650 days to go, and I have 32 habitats full of solstices & 14 full of double rainbows, it does seem on the face of it that it'll speed it up at least a bit.
Edit half an hour later: I was bored. It will take me ~$4.3B to level all my money earning dragons to 15, earning and extra ~$30M a day. This will take 650 days down to 550 or so, saving me 100 days. However, since it'll take ~30 days to earn that $4.3B back, in the end it'll save me about 70 days I level everything to 15. There you go!

Hi all, I have been lurking on this board long enough.
Some history : I've been playing DragonVale since shortly after it was released. Hmm, that's enough I guess.
I love the positive attitude of so many on this board, like Fletch and the other admins. That's what prompted this post, to say thanks to you guys.
I am enjoying this event, because I am able to spend the maybe 30 to 45 minutes a day playing the game, to get the eggs.
What has really helped is a rather rough hand-drawn paper spreadsheet that I carry around with me, that lets me easily see where I am at with the eggs. It sort of looks like this (but with more rows and columns):
13-4
14-14
15-4
...
party hats
10
20

...
treats
40
76
72
...
colosseum
30

I never get maxed out gifts, so I am open to receiving them : i am on iphone : onejoebloggs in my gamecentre account.
Hey onejoebloggs! Thanks for coming out of lurking to say hi. Ever thought of turning your hand written tracking sheet into an Excel speadshseet? That's where I record my counts!

Supreme congratulations on that effort!! I'm still trying. Getting very downhearted. But it's nice to know that it CAN be done!! You've given me hope
Breeding Target: Ovalith. It's ALWAYS Ovalith! Hoarded gems as a safety net to ensure an Ovalith during BEB, but I'm not sure if I want to spend them: I think I want the thrill of breeding it! Gems wasted on speeding up Ovalith breeding/incubation: 2890

Yes, it can be done. Both my son and daughter (KYDOLIND and WAPATANGO) have managed that feat. As for me, I have gotten about 8 Arctic, about the same number or Snow Olys, a Seasonal, an Oly or two, at least a couple of Geodes, and occasionally a regular hybrid is thrown in. I'm very happy for them, but I will have to admit my avatar is fitting right now (I'm a little green with envy, but truly only a little).

Only if, BFS stops supporting the game when the event is over.
You have forgotten to factor in number of new dragons BFS will release this/next year.
Yes, this is absolutely true. I also haven't costed in leveling all the regular epics to 15, so I do expect that 650 days date to blow out.
It's been my experience that even though there are more dragons, income tends to rise over time as well to compensate. There have been roughly 10 new non-epic dragons over the last 6 months, give or take. That's an extra $10B onto the bill. 6 months ago, I was earning on average $88M a day since I began record keeping, now I'm well over $100M average. Despite those new dragons, the end date is closer than it was 6 months ago.
I'm sure at some point income will max out, but I'm confident there's still more that can be squeezed out. Breeding for profit more often. More income from trading in gems as the level cap goes up. I haven't decided what to use the new habitat slots from 60->65 for yet, but I'm sure more solstices won't hurt. I still have 7 or so giant earth habitats with panlongs in them that could be converted into more efficient epic habitats.
Much like poppy said though, if they do introduce level 20 epics, well, that would add years.

Will easily get the second dragon in my main park. Not at all worried about the relic. It does look cool, but I will never feed epics above level 10.
Slightly tighter in my new baby park. Earned about 215 a day taking into account the double weekend and I need about 235 a day for the remainder, again, taking into account one more double weekend. I don't have Kairos for quests and at level 14 I don't even have all the elements covered for the Colosseum (not to mention, level 4 dragons aren't guaranteed to get Gold anyway). So anyway, it looks like I need 20 or 30 eggs a day. So I am putting a call out for friend requests for people that wouldn't mind giving me a hand. Not really promising to return the favour as I don't have the Dragonsai Tree and I am gifting my gems to other peeps that need eggs during the event/other new accounts. So if you are of a charitable mind send a friend request to
Fletch_smf2
Thanks in advance. Fletch
P.S. My main account is over 600 eggs in credit. So please don't send me anymore. Perhaps you could give to the people in my signature.

Hey onejoebloggs! Thanks for coming out of lurking to say hi. Ever thought of turning your hand written tracking sheet into an Excel speadshseet? That's where I record my counts!
I find that the immediacy of the paper spreadsheet is a big advantage - I can look at it anytime without a computer, and I can scribble notes on it, such as 'try monolith 1 and berry' - which just resulted in a Rainbow fail (drat). And I do not mind if I'm out by a few eggs each day. That's why I decided not to go with your Excel spreadsheet.
Platform : ios GCID : onejoebloggs I love the Double Leap Year dragon
Anyone know off hand how many obstacles in total on the 12th Island. I recall someone mentioning 115 obstacles (which isn't quite enough to clear 5 per day for the event), so needing to ration out my remaining obstacles for the double days.
Just got monolith 1 in the nursery. At this rate...and taking into account 3 upcoming days of doubles....I will be short about 1400 eggs to earn the relic.
