Personally I enjoy these special events. Yeah it can be repetitive but they mix it up where they can and the rewards are decent. I really hope they will bring Zodiac dragons into the mix.
The searches are challenging but its great when you finally find it!
The golden egg has a glimmer to it that helps to locate it. In edit mode when the egg is hidden behind a habitat like Large Rainbow the egg appears dim. It doesn't stand out at all, except for that glimmer. There is that slight flash of white light that catches your eye.
I found this link while researching the Kurios Quests. I didn't see that we had a version of it.
The chart has been updated with the current dragons. It seems the farther down the list you go for each quest, the less likely you will get the max number of eggs. But I haven't tested it thoroughly.

Thanks for the link. The list appears to be in alphabetical order, so I don't think the amount of eggs will differ according to that list order. Or if it did, it would be quite coincidental.
For the record, I did Drizzlemist Heights, 9 hours, I did not spend gems to speed it up and I got 40 eggs for it.

I think it might just be 2 eggs for an unsuccessful quest and 20 for a successful one.
If you harken back to those days of collecting Kairos pieces, 2 hours were a consolation prize while 3 or more hours meant you'd found a fragment.
I just jumped on to my test account , ran a bunch of quests and sped them up with gems. I only earned twice the amount of gems I spent in eggs, so no gems for the quest.
2 gems, 4 eggs 9 gems, 18 eggs 18 gems, 36 eggs.
Then it capped out on the gem rewards.
I then ran a 2 hour quest and sped it up with Kairos, thinking this might give me the rewards for the quest. It did not. I am running another 2 hour one now to see if I get the rewards for the quest. Will let you know.
For the moment though I would recommend NOT speeding up the quest with gems. In my regular park, I have never sped up the quest with gems, and I received the full amount, 20 or 40 eggs each time, even from a 2 hour quest.
As a note, if you go out and straight back in, it may not move. When trying to screenshot the egg the first time I saw it, I went to multitasking and then turned off my screen, twice. And the egg stayed put both times I reopened.
I wonder if it is time sensitive and only moves after a certain amount of time.
Another boring event. Another reason for me to not want to go on DV.
What a dragggg.... And I will most definitely not be getting the lost relic. Gonna have to work for the second dragon though.... Grrrr.. The golden egg is hard to find. I searched for half an hour without success. I don't enjoy searching for things and BFS have made the game ever more typical and predictable....
I am very negative about ANOTHER event. They are endless and bore me now, I mean it's the same thing every time... New dragon, collect, find, gem, and now quest. How exciting. Not.
Dragonvale is a lovely game BECAUSE it's simple, it's fun and it's cute. They keep having to make it more and more complicated as BFS get greedier and greedier....
Sad to see dv this way....

Ong I soooo agree! I miss simple DV. breed am egg hatch it buy a habitat watch it grow decorate. Sigh

I'm confused - can't people ignore the event and still play simple DV if that's how they want to play?
Personally, I like to be complete and I enjoy the extra bit of challenge, so I do participate in events, but I consider that my option.

Random thoughts...
1) Egg. I found that I was not zooming in close enough to see the Hidden Egg. This was especially important in the park I play on my phone. Use path edit mode, full zoom, and patiently scan across each island row by row.
2) Nature Path. This is so much more visually appealling to me than the Rose path (the colors just don't "fit" anywhere). I even like the look of a single Nature stone. The way they have rounded the sides makes lovely individual decorations here and there. Good job, BFS artists, on this one.
3) Still so sad about the passing of Sir Terry that playing is a mixed blessing. I can't help but see a dragon and immediately think of Vimes and Lady Sybil.

The two hour quest has finished and I received no eggs from it. It seems likely that speeding up quests is robbing you of eggs. Will check again tomorrow when it resets, speeding up my first quest and then completing a quest the long way to see if I get full or partial eggs for the quest.
I don't have any concrete data thus far, but will keep better record and share my data starting Mar 14. Hopefully we can find a connection or pattern to these quests.
Park Level - 65
- Mar 14, Mount Spectre, 2hr quest, Artic lvl 18, found 5K Foods, got 4 eggs (dbl wknd).
Start another quest, Hemlock Garden, 24hr, Pepper lvl 17. (this is a bummer, it's 24 hr long...unless I speed it up some time today, my quest for today is over.)
Out and about all day today, till I get back to the hotel tonight, I will share more data.
Some friends touch your heart in a way that you can never erase.
The first day of the event, I got a 24 hour quest, so I sped it up at the end for 16 gems. I'm positive that I got eggs for the gems and the quest. However, the number was difficult to read. I realized yesterday why that was. I spent gems again and was able to see that two numbers were on top of each other. One number was the eggs for gems. One was the eggs for the quest. However, I am not keeping track of eggs so I don't remember any specific numbers.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...

I'm sorry you got a 24 hour quest when you haven't gotten your magic eggs yet.
I started a 24-hour quest yesterday, after getting 20 for a shorter quest before the double weekend. I didn't speed it up. I did get 40 magic eggs from it today. Now I've got a 3 hour Mt Dumme quest going.
Result: 10,000 food but no magic eggs (I didn't expect any since I had 40 earlier). Next quest earth/cold, says 2 hours. I think I'll finish that one tonight so I can start a hopefully longer one to finish tomorrow.

My last quest gave me 4 eggs (I assume it was 2h, I keep forgetting to check). The next quest was 13h and I sped it up, getting 36 eggs (making the eggs for quests for today total 40) but no eggs for gem spend (and it wasn't maxed). So for me it seems that gems spent on speeding quests don't count

Thank you so much. I went the last 2 events without being able to find Santa or Gardenia and was starting to think the egg was going to be the same this time around. I would have never found that egg without your advice.
I've been playing this game since just about the beginning and was starting to get disillusioned with it. If only I had found you guys sooner. I could have saved myself a lot of aggravation.
You're welcome, happy to help! This place is full of little tips for these events; it makes a big difference in the stress level over the game. And welcome to the forum too!
Welcome.

My magic egg decided to try hiding amongst my collection today, right on top of where I had put my monolith egg!
Nice try.
Now that is cool!
